Mike BARSON: and MALERNEE & ELEFANTE FAMILIES

I am a niece of Mike Barson of Canton, Ohio. He was married to my fathers sister Reba (MALERNEE) ELEFANTE-BARSON. She was the widow of Joseph ELEFANTE. Mike & Reba had 4 children: Lucretia Georgina (named for her grandmother), Michael Richard Jr, Rose Marie & George Anthony. I am in contact with Rose Marie and just visited with her in Sun City, CA. last month. I'm sort of the family genealogist and have recently been working on the Barson's for Rose. She had no information on her cousins. I found Mike & Lucretia Barson (the imigrent grandparents) on the 1920 & 1930 Census'. Rose had one picture of each of them that I have loaded into my computer system. Granddad Mike is holding baby Lucretia "Lou". Rose also loaned me several pictures of Uncle Mile with his motorcycles and several of him in WWII and some of these with his brother Steve. Any information or pictures you would be willing to exchange I can pass on to Rose and/or ask her permission to give you her e-mail address so you can also exchange information with her. Do you have any idea or information on the original spelling of Barson before coming to America? Any idea of what grandmother Lucretia's maiden name was? I show Granddad & grandma Barson's children as: Rose, Lucretia, Nick, Anna, Martin, Mike & Steve. Ancious to hear from any Barson cousins.

You may already have this but your Christiana Ma(r)y Barson was probably the daughter of Albert Barson (1851) and Mary Ann Blackford (1855). Born 28 Agust 1891

I have one uncle who is Neil Barson and his wife Judith Barson.

Thomas's brother Edward James was my G Grandfather.

My granmother was Christian Mary Jane Barson of Foleshill. Coventry. Warwickshire. England. She is not on the 1901 census but her birth was registered at st laurence church in 1891 she was married to Frank Potts in Foleshill in 1918. They had four boys, 3 survived, one died aged 10.

I dearly would love to hear from anyone who any information on her family. My father always told me that they worked on the canals, that may be why they are not on the census.

Hi Roger,
My grandmother was Hannah Barson. According to her death cert. she was born about 1870. She was married, (or otherwise; I can't find a marriage cert.), to John Dolman who was a boatman on the Shropshire Union Canal. The only reference I can find of a Hannah Barson of about the right age is in the 1881 census for Foleshill Union. I tried for a birth cert.and came up with a mother - Caroline Barson, nee Smith - but no father which just about sums up my position - no further!
Sorry but I don't suppose this helps a fat lot.

My grandparents were Russian Jews who settled in Omaha, Nebraska. Their names were Harry and Rae Barson. I believe the last name was originally something like "Balatovski", changed to Barson at Ellis Island.

Of no interest to me but saw this gravestone inscription at Nab Wood Cemetery, Shipley, West Yorkshire -

John Gerrard BARSON d.16/2/1915 aged 33
also William BARSON father of above d.21/9/1925 aged 75
also Mary Augusta BARSON d.19/7/1931 aged 79
loving wife and mother

Looked on the 1881 census and noticed that William BARSON was born Kingston, Notts. On census noticed that another older child born in 1880 named Mary. William is listed as a gardner.

My Barsons were from Leicester, England. I am told they actually originated from the Netherlands and the name was originally "Bartholomew." Upon migration to England, one of the forefathers had a business which was named "Bar & Son", and somehow that was changed into Bar-son. I don't know if any of them were Jewish. However, my dad, Gordon Sidney Barson emmigrated to the U.S. after WWII and settled in New York City. There he met and fell in love with a Jewish girl. Her family would have nothing to do with her marrying a Gentile, so they wisked her off to marry a Jewish man, while she was pregnant with my brother, who would now be in his 50's. I don't know the girl's name, and my father passed away in 1989. I sure would like to find my Jewish brother but I have nothing to go on. Thanks for writing! -Ann

Where were your Barson's from? Were they of the Jewish religion? I am trying to find info on my Grandfather whose Barson side of the family was originally from Chicago. My Greatgrandfather died before my Grandfather was born and we have no info on that side of the family.

I believe my father, Nick, was born in Blaj, Romania. He had a brother named John and 2 sisters. One sister was named Lucretia. She died in appx 1979. Peter, I think his last name was spelled, Birsan. I don't think he is related to the other persons family. He always went by Nick, not Nicholas. I'd love to hear from any other Barson's out there. My father was Nick Barson. He also came here from Romania in the 1920's. Original spelling of name I think was Barsan, with a little hook over the second a. That spelling was changed at Ellis island. We lived in Cleveland Oh, and were active in the Rom. Orthodox church there. Older sisdter is still there, and very active,Jean Dobrea.

steve barson had two sons donald and steve jr. each had one child, both girls.
i believe that steve also had brothers.

My grandfather lived in Philadelphia, PA and his brother lived in New Rochelle, NY with his 2nd wife. They were raised in an orphanage in the state of NY. Bernard Barson was born in the mid 1890. He was married to Anna Borman Barson. from Philadelphia, PA, who gave him 3 sons by the names of Howard, Martin, and Samuel. They did much traveling back and forth across the United States, but I do not remember hearing of them ever being in the state of Utah

Looking for information on the Barson family that owned the Riverside Hotel in Santa Cruz, CA during the 1890's. Fred Barson married Mary Ellen Archibald of Nova Scotia, Canada. Names of two of their children might be Sadie and Arthur. Hotel was closed by 1925 but family thought to still be residing in it.
