Brunicardi is a very popular name in the Province of Lucca. Lucca consists not only of the city, but the Metro area around it, and the Province (similar to an American County.)

The only records I have transcribed are for one parish in the outskirts of Bagni di Lucca, which is about 25 km from the city of Lucca. The parish name is Pieve di Controne. There are many Brunicardi's in the parish, but unless your ancestors are actually from this parish, I won't be of any help to you.

Good luck in your research, and be sure to write me if by chance you come upon anyone from the Pieve di Controne.
Ann

Hi,
I checked through the records, and have no marriage listing (1890-1910) for Andrea and Antonietta - however if she was from Arsina (about 15 km from Pieve di Controne) the marriage record would be there, since most weddings took place at the bride's church.
There are no Giannotti families in the Pieve records, so this is a strong possibility. Family names are very town specific, Brunicardi's being very prolific at the Pieve.
Are you sure that Andrea was born in 1850? I have an Andrea born in November 1849, the 6th of 10 children. Do you know Andrea's parents' names or any other siblings?
If you are sure that Andrea was from the Pieve parish, I'm sure that with a little more info I can get you back to the 1500's. Please contact me directly at abarsi@verizon.net

I only have register records from the parish of Pieve di Controne, not the whole commune of Bagni di Lucca. If you have some more specific info about Carlo (parents, siblings, etc.), please send it to me, and I will check the Pieve records to see if your ancestor is from this parish. However, if you are sure he is from the comune, or town of Bagni di Lucca, I'm afraid I won't be able to help you.

By coincidence, I am currently in Bagni di Lucca on vacation.
Ciao,
Ann Barsi

Rose was 1st cousins with my grandfather John B. Brichetto (AKA Boch). My grandmother was Josephine. My father is Louis Brichetto.
Ken,
I think you just hit the jackpot! The Giovanni Battista Lucchesi and Louisa Petri that I have in my database had a son named Giovanni Francesco Amadeo Lucchesi on 26 Jan 1890. He was one of 9 children.

Please send me a regular email address as the information I have for you is way too big to do in one of these messages. I have about 12 generations back to the 1500's.

As I expected, the Lucchesi line is the shortest because two generations back, he was an orphan from Lucca. The woman in the family have a rich heritage.

Ciao,
Ann

My appology, the information I initially had was incorrect. The death Certificate for Amadeo reflected his birth January 26 1890. His father as on the certificate was Batista Lucchesi and Mother Louisa Petri. without actual documents, I can only go by what I have.

Amadeo married Adele Galli in Lucca Italy before 1921. She Immigrated to Los Angeles in 1921, giving a Margherita Lucchesi as family in Italy.

They are found on the 1930 census as Luchesi and have a son Milo who died in 2000.

I am related to Angela Adele Galli. I do research to find information on the Lucchesi linage.

thanks

Ken

Ken,
I did a cursory search of the Lucchesi's I have from the parish of Pieve di Controne, which is a parish of five small towns about 5 km above Bagni di Lucca, and did not find any Lucchesi's that fit your family. Do you have any other info about them, that might let me search further back?

Two factors are probably at work here - Probably your family was not from the parish for which I have records - you know that each parish is distinct from one another, and the records were kept separately by the parish priest. There are a number of parishes in Bagni di Lucca, and many mountain parishes surrounding the city.

Secondly, Lucchesi is a very common name in this area. One way that the Lucchesi surname would have been attached to a person is that an orphan from a hospital in Lucca would have been adopted by a country family. The orphan and his descendents for a couple of generations would not have a surname, then eventually his offspring would become known as Lucchesi. The same thing happens with Pisani.

So even though now your family is known as Lucchesi, it might be that back into the mid to early 1800's they didn't have a surname.

Good luck and keep me posted if you have any luck getting more info on your family.
Ann

Tamara,

I picked up your note on Ancestry.com. Let me explain who I am and why I'm
interested in the BARSOTTI name.

My name is Art SMITH. I live in Lompoc, CA , but I was born and raised in
San Francisco by my grandparents. To put things in perspective, I am 77 yrs
old and in the 1930s a Mr. & Mrs. Barsotti of Bakersfield would visit my
grandparents. I don't know their first names. What I do remember is that
they had a farm in or near Bakersfield and a son was killed in a diving
accident in a swimming pool or a river (I think he hit his head on the edge
of the pool). I remember them as a friendly, outgoing couple who really
related to children. I remember him describing how he had to drive to
Tehachapi and San Bernardino to get to Los Angeles before the "Grapevine"
was built. He had to carry extra water because his car would overheat in
the desert and at altitude.

I'm not sure whether or not they were relatives or "paisanos". My
grandfather was Settimio BIONDI b. 1878; d. 1961 and he was from
Groppodalossio in the Valdantina near Pontremoli in the Massa Carrara
province of Tuscany. My grandmother was Assunta ARMANINI b. 1881; d. 1941
of nearby Pracchiola, 8 to 10 km from Groppodalossio.

The last time I saw the BARSOTTIs was when they came to my grandmother's
funeral in 1941.

If any of the above sounds familiar, please contact me at 10629@impulse.net
. Perhaps they were your grandparents or great grandparents.

Regards,

Art

P.S. I tried sending this to tamaron@msn.com but the message failed.

Our Great Grandfather's name was Dominick BARSOTTI born about 1862 in Tosca (Toscana) Italy. Our Great Grandmother was Jenny Vieotia? OPISI, also born in Tosca Italy about 1867. Both came to America where our Grandfather, Charles Louis BARSOTTI was born on 9 March 1886 in Chicago Illinois. Now that we have identified the region of Italy, we will start our search for the town and church where they grew up. Any information you may have would be most helpful. prost@pjsnet.com . Thanks. Tom PROST

(1887-1953) and their son Albert Y. lived in the same building in 1920 per the U.S. Federal Census. Rose M. BARSOTTI's sister-in-law was Jean Clara BRICHETTO. Anna BRICHETTO's children were Mary M. (1884-1957), John P., Joseph M. (1894-1954), and Louis A. (1898-1955). Please contact me. Thanks.
