Hey Mike,
So sorry for the delay, I just got your message today! I had taken a hiatus from research since my husband deployed last year and have just resumed some casual work on the family tree. I am the great grandaughter of Felicie Georgianna Bart, married name Dahl. I would be happy to share any information I might have with you. The Forbes line has been a mystery to me for some time, I may not have much for you. I do have info on Colfax and Felicie so please feel free to contact me. Thanks! Your Cousin, Cathy Cornett cathkid@kc.rr.com

Re: Colfax W. Bart

Dear Cathkid (sorry I don't have a real name!)

My name is Mike Pelzel from Cincinnati, Ohio. For some months now, I have been trying to organize my Forbes family tree, which connects to the Bart family through the marriage of Edwin (sometimes Edward) Bart and Georgiana Forbes. My great-great-grandfather is John W. Forbes, brother of Georgiana. The father of Georgiana and John, and our common ancestor, is George W. Forbes, born circa 1812 in New York. George's mother is Elizabeth which is as far back as I can get at the moment. From what you wrote in your query, I assume that you are a descendant of either Felicie Bart Dahl or Edwin M. Bart. I would be happy to share with you the information I have collected so far. At least you now know that you have relatives in Cincinnati, Ohio! I look forward to a reply.

Mike Pelzel
6205 Twinwillow Lane
Cincinnati, Ohio 45247
pelzelfest@aol.com

I have a little info on names you list. Clint and Ida Belle were adopted by Harvey and Florence Bart. Birth parents were John T. Hostetler and Martha Lowe. Martha died in 1916 and John in 1919 in Atoka, Atoka Co, OK. Clint died I think in 1969. Ida married a Paul Rentfro, divorced. She died in 1989. Edna married a J. Ragoun. She also has died, lived in Perryton, TX. I have the date, just can't remember off hand. Nellie married a McDonald. She has died and she lived in Spearman, TX, not far from Perryton. I have not been able to find anything on Dorothy. Will be glad to share what little info I have. Have you found anything more since posting message? I am a descendant of Martha Lowe's sister, Mary, my grandmother. Mary

Re: Bartodziej

Hi: My mother has asked to me find what I can about her ancestral names. She was born in 1919 in Chicago; her surname at birth was Bartodziej, later changed by her father to Barth. Her father was born in the U.S.; his parents were from Poland. She is not sure about the city in Poland from which her grandparents emigrated, but thinks it may have been Poznan (Pilsen) or Gdansk (Danzig).

My mom has always assumed her ancestors were Slavic. Based on several Google searches this evening, I'm beginning to suspect that Bartodziej is actually Germanic. I note, for example, that the leader of the German Minority Party in the Polish parliament is Sen. Gerhardt Bartodziej.

I hope this helps you in some way, and that you might provide any info you have about the Bartodziej ancestry. Thanks and best wishes!

John Wold

Re: Bart family name origin

Christian, I'm not sure of the Bart name origin, but I wonder if your name was shortened like mine:

Domenico Barattieri; b. Mar 10, 1860 in Trieste Austria (Italy); d. Jul 20, 1934 in Helens Mills, PA; m. about 1887 probably in Trieste to Guiseppa (Josephine) Cumerloti; b. Jul 04, 1867 in Trieste; d. Jul 22, 1955 in Penfield, PA. Domenico came to America in 1889, and sent for his wife and their oldest son Eugenio in 1891. The family settled in Crenshaw, PA, where Domenico became a coal miner. Somewhere along the line the surname Barattieri became Bart, and all descendants have gone by this last name. Domenico and Josephine's children were born with the surname Barattieri, but on some of the vital record copies, such as marriage records of their children, the name Bart is used.

They had 9 children including my grandfather:

Lindo Barattieri; b. Dec 10, 1892; bpt. Jan 08, 1893 in St. Boniface Church, Kersey, PA by Reverend B. J. Raycroft (with surname Bart on a copy of baptismal certificate dated Feb 18, 1951); d. Feb 13, 1964 in Brockway, PA; m. Aug 30, 1915 in Brandy Camp, PA, by the Reverend Francis Ferrara, to Marianna Mariucci; b. Nov 25, 1897 in Sigillo, Province of Perugia, Italy; bpt. Nov 30, 1897 in Sigillo; d. Sep 05, 1964 in Brockway. She was the daughter of Domenico and Angela (Nasomi) Mariucci.

Rick in Taunton, MA

Re: Irwin Bart

I have no idea when my family first came to New York, but I do know that Irwin (my grandfather) was born here in 1909. I don't even know the exact date. I think he had a sister named Dorothy. That's about all I know, other than he was married to Sylvia Meises, and had two children, (twins) named David and Phyllis. David was my father, and he passed away in September of 1994. We weren't very close, which is probably why I know so little about my family. I was always told that Irwin Bart's family came from Austria. Do you think we're related?

Am seeking any info relating to my grandfather, Irwin Bart. I know he was born in New York City in April of 1909 and that he and his wife, Sylvia had two children, David and Phyllis. Unfortunately, we aren't a close family and I have no knowledge of my family's history except that Irwin's family originates from Austria and that they're Jewish. I don't know where exactly or when they settled in New York.
