Services for Edward Daniel Barta, Sr. 76,
Lexington, will be at 2 p.m., today, Jan. 14, 2004, at
Calvary Assembly of God Church in Lexington with Rev.
Joe Masten and Calvin Barta officiating. Burial
will be in the Robb Cemetery at Lexington.
Ed died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at the Plum Creek
Care Center in Lexington.
He was born Jan. 25, 1927, at Overton to Mike
George and Eva Marie (Warner) Barta. He grew up in the
Overton/Lexington area where he attended school at
District 42, rural Overton, and the Jewell School near
Sumner.
On Aug. 30, 1948, he married Charlene Overton at
Kansas City, Mo. This union was blessed with six
children, Elizabeth, Patty, Ed Jr., Calvin, David and
Pat.
Ed was involved in farming for over 35 years,
Paulsen Construction Company for seven years, Cornland
Dressed Beef for 19 years, Plum Creek Medical Group
Maintenance Department for three years, chief engineer
at the Dawson County Museum for four years and was
called into the Love-in-Action Outreach Program from
1986 until his death.
He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church
for 45 years and past president of the Men's
Fellowship. He also volunteered his services as bus
minister for 15 years. Ed always had a jolly outlook
on life.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Barta,
Lexington; four sons, Edward Daniel Barta Jr.,
Schuyler, Calvin Barta, Palestine, Texas, David Barta,
Schuyler, Pat Eugene Barta, Jacksonville, Texas; two
daughters, Elizabeth Barta-Thomas, Omaha, Patty
Barta-Boeckman, Lexington/Korea; 12 grandchildren;12
great-grandchildren; brothers, Fritz E. Barta of
Oregon, Donald, Harmon, and Lloyd Barta, all of
Lexington, Frank Barta, Cozad; sisters, Edna Dewey,
Lexington, Martha Root, Harvard, Leora Esslinger,
Sterling, Colo., Mildred Shuda, Hastings, and Dorothy
Linder, Cozad.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two
brothers, Chester and George.
Memorials are suggested to "Love in Action Outreach
Program."
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in
charge of arrangements.
