Are you still looking for John Louis Barta? My father's name is John Louis Barta, and I know he had a daughter prior to marrying my mother. I was born in 1964. I have had no contact with my father since I was four years old, but I know his mother and father lived in Milan, Michigan. My father was also in the Navy.

Please reply if you're still receiving messages on this board. Thanks!

Dan

Was Vaclav (James) naturalized citizen? If yes, have you tried requesting his naturalization petition? If not naturalized but lived pass 1940, which he did than there is an Alien Registration Form to request. How about a draft registration form? You need a precise place of birth first. Any social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com Did you try to find their state marriage application or church marriage record?

Barbora Barta

I am searching for information on Barbora Barta born about 1883 in Bohemia. She was married to Vaclav (James) Snoble. They lived in Chicago and raised a large family.

James died in 1957. I know he is buried in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago. I've been unable to find any information on Barbora. I believe I have her passenger manifest from 1903 although the age listed is off from census records.

If I have the right passenger manifest, she came alone as a servant. She would have likely married James Snoble fairly shortly after arrival in Chicago as they had their first child in 1905/06.

I am interested in finding out her vital dates (birth and death) as well as any family information that anyone might have.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dan Shire
dashire@comcast.net
Michigan Bartas?

I am having a devil of a time. My great grandmother, Susie (or Zusanna) Barta (don't know her maiden name) came here from Hungary/Czechoslovakia in 1921 with her three sons in 1921 on the Coronia. Her husband Frank, had come here earlier. By 1930 she is married to a man named Mike Katvas because Frank had passed away. My grandmother was born in 1925 so it happened sometime between 1925-1930. Anyway, apart from the immigration records and the 1930 census I can't find any info. I've tried spelling names differently and hunting all over ancestry, but I just don't know where else to look. I'm not sure where else to look. Susie was born sometime around 1882 and anything anyone could help me with is greatly appreciated. I'm still a little new to this.

My father was William David Bartja. My grandfather was Joseph Milton Bartja. My great-grandfather was David Bartja. Beyond that, I have no connection to my past family history. Because of religious reasons and prejudice, my father was cut off from his family before I was born. One of the few things I know is that they are from Moncton, Ontario. If there is any way that you are related to me, please let me know. I want to trace back before my great-grandfather. Thank-you. Sincerely, Andrea Bartja.

Barta in Illinois

Researching Barta family formerly of Berwyn, Illinois for genealogy purposes. My grandmother Jennie Barta Soukup (1878-1969) brother was W.James Barta (dod 1938), a plumber from Berwyn, Illinois. I believe someone from this side of family contacted my sister a couple years ago in Cherry Hill, NJ concerning pictures of family and if she was interested in receiving them. I think after Evelyn Morton Zitka passed away someone in the Barta family obtained possession of these pictures. I did receive pictures of my fathers’ uncle from Robin H. and they really helped my genealogy research. My family moved East in the mid 1950s’ and lost most contact with family. I do remember as child, Lori & Gale Allen visiting from their home in West Virginia. Also my Dad’s cousins were Clifford Rogman and Evelyn Zitka, all deceased. If any of this sounds familiar feel free to contact me. Also am posting couple pictures of my Fathers’ family, they previously lived in Fox River Grove, Illinois.

I'm looking for relatives of Alex Bartha (or Alex S. Bartha). He lived in the Bronx (NY) in the mid to late 1920's and I believe he may be the same Alex Bartha of the Big Band era in Atlantic City in the 1930's. I believe he may have came to the USA from Germany or Hungary. If you have any information, please contact me. Thank you!

I have two original old photos of Barta babies, which I would like to get back to family members. Frank John Barta is identified on his photo as "born 17 Sept 1883". Mary Barbara Barta is identified as "born 25 March 1889". These are cabinet portraits, taken in Milwaukee when each was 1 yr. old.

I found Frank's WWI draft registraiton in which he lists the same date of birth. In the 1930 census, he is age 46 and wife Catherine is age 45.

If this is your family, email me at margerice@prodigy.net.
