To be honest I haven't done any research ... I was actually doing some online 'name managment' and got the link to the ancestry.com website. I do not know a lot about my grandfather -- he died at age 50 when my father was very young -- but my aunt has done quite a bit of research so I will ask her and reply when I find out. Sounds like you are making a lot of progress ... that's one good thing about having a rare name ... it makes things easier to nail down!
