My great grandfather was August John Barthel. He lived in Wisconsin before he moved to California where he died. I do not know if he was born in Wisconsin or Europe.
His son was August Phillip Barthel who was born and died in California.
Our family name was originally mis-spelled when going through Ellis Island. It should be Bartel.
Does any of this sound familiar?
