Fay M. (Pierquet) Bartel, 79, Green Bay, passed away surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, May 24, 2007, at a local Green Bay hospital.

She was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Green Bay, to the late Frank and Helen (Ceasar) Pierquet.

Fay graduated in 1945 from Green Bay West High School.

On May 30, 1947, she married Bernard (Bernie) Bartel at Annunciation Church. They enjoyed 55 years together.

She was employed by Sarah Coventry Jewelry for many years and Cameo Lingerie. Fay enjoyed spending time at her cottage and playing cards, especially cribbage and sheepshead.

Survivors include her 10 children, Dennis (Jane) Bartel, Palmyra; Don (Pat) Bartel, Diane Oshefsky, Paul Bartel, and Phil (Sandy) Bartel, all of Green Bay; David (Betsy) Bartel, Duluth, Minn.; Todd (special friend, Sally) Bartel, Green Bay; Susan (Jeff) Selner, Kewaunee; Rob (Julie) Bartel and Mari (Peter) Amenson, all of Green Bay; 21 grandchildren, Chad and Kelly Bartel, Mya, Ryan and Shawn Bartel, Cynthia Riedi, Chrissie Rapajczak, Dan, Amy and Timmy Bartel, Josh and Megan Bartel, Jacob, Kevin and Steven Bartel, Katelin Selner, Jacquie and Jeffrey Chase, Bobby and Nicky Bartel, and Bart Amenson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie, on Feb. 23, 2003; one sister, Colleen; two brothers, Donald and Herdis (Perk); and her longest childhood friend, Mary Rose Ullmer.

My birth name is Barthel. I grew up hearing that my birth name was probably misspelled by immigration officials and that the correct spelling was probably Bartel or some other variant. Even knowing that information, I haven't found any new information about my family history.
Maybe someone here can help me further my research.
My father, Richard Phillip Barthel, was born in California in 1950.
My grandfather, August Phillip Barthel, was born 1922 in Los Angeles and died in 1982 in Los Angeles. He was married to Mary Melsheimer.
My great grandfather, August John Barthel, was born 1891 in Jefferson County, Wisconsin and died in 1979 here in Los Angeles. He was married to Helen Berg.
According to his death certificate, his father was Julius Barthel and his mother was Louise Harneck. Both are listed as being from Germany.
Does any of this ring a bell?

After retirement, Bart was a volunteer instructor for the AARP Driver Safety Training Program for 5 years. Bart loved to travel and he loved his trains and a good project . He could always be found assisting anyone in need of a helping hand. He is greatly loved and wi ll be missed by all his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, at 1:00 P.M., Glendora Community Church, Church of the Nazarene, 645 N. Grand Avenue, Glendora, CA. Reception immediately following ceremony at Citrus College Student Center. Private burial will be held next week.

A relative sent digital images of a 1830s ledger our German-speaking great-great-grandparents kept while living in Wayne County, Ohio. Their names are Solomon and Susannah Bartel and they were born in Pennsylvania around 1803. Among things I've tried has been using translators on the internet, but the problem (aside from my lack of German) may be that it is all handwritten. Once a few words are figured out, the rest ought to come easily, if someone has the expertise, since it appears to be a list of household and farm items sold. Is there someone out there who is willing to take a crack at a page or two?

I am Serching for info on my Bartel Family. My Great Grandfathers name was Walter Bartel m. to Laura Hazel Power. I beleive Walter's father was named Ernest he was from Germany possibly a town called Schlopp. Earnest had a Sister Emma J. Bartel who never married. Emma was born on Sept 28, 1866. I have a death Certificate for Emma that says her parents were Julius Bartel from Schlopp Germany and Maria Schlichting also from Schlopp Germany. I beleive Emma and Earnest came to america together around 1890's. Earnest married right after arriving in America in Cook Co., IL. Wife's name something like Sena. Earnest and Sena had a Daughter Earnestina in 1892-3, and then Walter in 1894. Does this sound like anyone's family info?? Please post or Email if you think it does!

Stanley-Stanislaus- Bartel(l) and Mathilda Gilsoul Bartel were married in Green Bay, WI on June 4, 1902. Stanley died March 3, 1955. Mathilda died Dec. 15, 1950. They had 5 or 6 children who are all deceased. Ernest, Clarence, Lillian, James, and Ethel. Stanley was naturalized on March 6, 1911. The Bartel family came from Gemany, but I'm not sure where. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

Mrs. Caroline Bartel, 68 years old, died yesterday afternoon at her home on the River road, town of Wheatfield, after a lingering illness. She was born in Germany coming to the town of Wheatfield when two years old and residing there the rest of her life. She is survived by a husband, August Bartel; three daughters, Miss Carrie Bartel, Wheatfield; Mrs. L. C. Juneman, Buffalo, and Mrs. W. D. Mulholland, Niagara Falls; two sons, William J. Wruck, Buffalo, and Fred A. Wruck, Niagara Falls; twelve grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John Schuler, Pendleton, and Mrs. Silas Allared, North Tonawanda. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the residence and an hour later at the Holy Ghost church, Bergholz, Rev. Kuckenbeck officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Ghost cemetery.

I am looking for information about this couple, my grandparents. They came from Germany with their daughter Lillian and lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They also had a son Ernest who died in WWII, a son Clarence, another daughter, Ethel, and a son James. All of the siblings have passed on. Searching for John, or Johann Bartel(l) who came from Prussia before 1805. He was in Georgia c1805, where a son, also named John was born. Two other children, Edmund and Mary were born in Louisiana between 1812 and 1840, probably by different mothers.

Edmund married Elizabeth Tickell Pullam, widow of Joseph Pullam, on Jan 22, 1860 in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.
