Unusual origins (Emma Unknown wife of Harry Bartell)

I am interested in obtaining information regarding an Emma Bartell of Alameda California. I don't know her maiden name. She was born or about May 5, 1888 in Nebraska and died November 17, 1965. I would be interested in the names of any possible parents in particular her mother or even just her maiden name would be valuable.

The reason for my query regards the 1920 census where Harry and Emma are listed with an ancestor of mine one Carl Thorvald Eklund an uncle many generations removed. In this census he is listed as a brother-in-law to Harry. Since he was single his whole life I suspect the only answer is that Emma is his sister. Now due to peculiarities of Carl's father Axel Eklund it is possible that she is a half sister. There are many other possibilities of course but it is most curious.

thank you very much

While not related to Henry Bartell, our families did cross in a way. Back in 1905 Henry Bartell helped my great great uncle look for his daugher, Katie DeWitt James.

Katie was murdered in 1905; the offical story is she was murdered by a woman named Fannie Norton, though there is some belief she was actually murdered either by her husband Martin Luther James, or by someone he had hired.

Anyway ... good luck with finding your ancestors and if you should ever come across anything in his effects that mentions Katie DeWitt James please let me know.

Fred Bartell/John Bartell/Missouri/Michigan

Am seeking info on a John and Anna Bartell. Appear in 1900 St. Charles Co., Missouri census (Dardenne Twp) with kids Fred, John and Ardella. They next appear in Illinois (1910). Fred married Goldie Menk in Illinois; Ardella married Chettie Farrell and John (dad) was apparently widowed while in Ill. Unsure about John Junior. By 1920 they are in Michigan, Wayne Co. Last time found for John Sr was 1920 living with Chet and Ardella, and Fred in 1930 was widowed with Shirley and Edward, 2 children, but minus Theda (middle child)she was living with Chet and Ardella Farrell in Wayne Co. 1930 census. Very confused, and a very blank wall!!! Any help appreciated.

I found a newspaper clipping indicting a "Angelhart" or Englehart (or Englehard) Bartell had been born in 1822 in Germany, had come to America in 1832 and served in both the Mexican and the Civil War. He died in 1912 in Anderson, Ca.

He was, according to a related source, in Kansas in 1863 when a son named Samuel E. Bartell was born. Samuel or Sam indicated a brother named Dan. Sam also had a son named Carl, a daughter named Bernice and one named Fay.

The source for the information are newspaper articles and a census record.

Have any researchers of Bartell or similar names every come across a character who called himself King Bartell? He supposedly was born 1840 in Rome, Georgia of a father born in Scotland and mother born in Georgia. He billed himself as a "Magnetic healer" and "The Human X-Ray". He was in Waukesha and Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 1899 and in Petoskey, Michigan, where he died in June 1900.
Bartell may have been an assumed name, but I?ve reached a dead end trying to find any information on him prior to March 1899.
My Anna Bartell was the daughter of Theodore Bartell and Phillipine. Theodore Bartell came over from Germany sometime around 1887 and I have the document of when he became a citizen of the USA in 1892. His name was spelled BARTELLE on the document. I am not sure if his wife came over with him. He was in Missouri at the time. Anna was b. in Missouri on Nov.4,1894 and d. Sept. 13, 1950 in Rock Island, Ill. Anna m. Alexander Bashaw in Moline, Ill. on Sept 28, 1912. They had 3 children, Vivian Agnes, Earl and Winston. Does this sound familiar at all to you, maybe you may run across this information somewhere along the line. If so, I am always looking for more on this. Especially her parents.

My Martin Bartell was born Nov 11, 1824 died Oct 3, 1893 buried in Augusta, IL. Unknown parents. Naturalization paper says he was born in Prussia.

He married Paulina Chopick - Feb 19, 1851
He may have came to the US in 1853.
Lived in Geneseo, IL (1860 census place birth in Prussia) and then his family moved to Augusta, IL

His son Benjamin Bartell (b. Feb 10, 1863 in Augusta, IL ) homesteaded in Bristol, South Dakota in 1882. The family still owns the homestead land in Bristol.

The names in my family are reused quite often and it is likely that your Martin Bartell may be related to me.

If you need more information please contact me at cbartell@premia.com

- Chris Bartell

Frederick Bartell (Possible Relation to Englehard)

Folks,

I am looking for information on Frederick Bartell, born in Germany around 1825. He was married to Agatha (Don't know her maiden name).

It is possible that Frederick was the brother of Englehard. I base this assumption on the previous posting that talked about Englehard being one of 4 brothers. There is a similar story in my family regarding Frederick being one of four brothers. The time frame is right.....could just be coincidence as alot of people had 4 brothers. :)

Also, I am attempting to trace Frederick's daughter in law Elizabeth Johanna Helene Janssen (aka Lizzie Johnson), who was born in Aurich, Ostfriesland in 1871, who married Henry J Bartell, son of Frederick.

Seems making that jump across the pond is a real kicker...

Thanks!

/mpb

Jack Victor Bartell

My mother's grandfathers was Jack Victor Bartell. He was born on the Berthold (sp) Reservation in Minnesota. We believe after that he went to North or South Dakota. His mother was a Souix Indian named Effie Beal. I am not sure of his father's name but he did have a brother, Harry ?, and a sister. Jack left home at an early age because his mother remarried and he did not get along with the step father. He moved to Texas where he worked in ranching and also did some rodeoing. He did not talk much about his family except for the little bit of information above. If anyone can help us find out more information, we would greatly appreciate it.
