POW/MIA Korean War, BARTHOLOMEW

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave San Francisco, Calif. as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: GEORGE HERMAN BARTHOLOMEW
Born: 1932
Date of loss: July 27, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Kelly, The Bartholomew book lists Johan as the brother of Daniel who is supposed to be General Joseph's father. Daniel died in 1768 yet Joseph's mother had a son, John, in 1770. The Biographies state that the family moved to Pa when Joseph was 2 yrs old. I had my YDNA checked against a Michael Bartholomew who is a known father-son descendent of Johan. Our relationship goes back quite a number of generations. General Joseph and siblings are in the age range of Johan's grandchildren. By the Pa. German naming patterns of the times General Joseph father is probably a John Bartholomew. G. W. Wells lists a possible Joseph as a brother of Johan but does not list a lineage.

Dec 18, 1867 a Miss Bartholomew of Angola NY was killed in a train accident at Big Sister Creek just out side Angola NY (20 miles South of Buffalo). I am trying to ascertain her first name & parents names, DOB and where she is buried. There were a hundred people injured and 50 killed in this disaster. Anyone related to her or have someone in your family tree that may be the Bartholomew I'm looking for?? Newspaper accounts of that era only ID her as Miss Bartholomew of Angola NY and that her body was removed by friends. I've tried the Census, Ancestry.com, Findagrave, Fultonhistory.com etc etc.

Kevin

Even if the dates don't mesh, it might be worth your time to check out the Isaac that is in my tree.

My paternal grandmother's name was Biryne Bartholome(w) Nelson(I'm not for certain if there is a "w" on the end). She was one of three daughters born to Alwin Gustave Bartholome. His nickname (what I always heard everyone refer to him as) was "Butch." He was born in SD to a Gustave Augustus Bartholome whose origin I have seen as Posen and Alscae (could be spelling that incorrectly). Gustave Augustus was married to an Emma Biese. I don't know the alternative spelling of Bartholome, but my Grandmother once told me that the spelling had been changed per a story she heard from a relative by the name of Hilda Bartholome Mertz. I've inherited/saved a small bit of geneolgoical research my grandmother (unorganized), so I have a bit more detail than what I've shared.

Not sure how familiar you are with various on-line search sites. I went onto Ancestry.com, and within five minutes found a 1990 census report showing Frank P. Bartholomew, with wife Sarah and children Marietta, Titus, Sallie, Franklin, and Charles. Birth dates for Frank and Titus match those in your post. They lived in East Rockhill Township, Bucks County, PA.
If you send me an email address, I can send you a digital copy of that census page. Send to SailorBart@aol.com, Dave Bartholomew.

My mother, Rose Esther (Bartholomew) Howard is your father's sister. Would love to correspond with you on our family. Maybe together we can fill in information on this family.

I do know that on the 1920 United States Federal Census they were living Fort Worth, Texas. William and Mary were both born in Alabama.

Please email me at josiehoward1114@aol.com

I'm new to this too. My ggggg-Great Grandfather was General Joseph Bartholomew. I know he fought in the American Revolution (although he would have just been 10-15 at the time), the War of 1812, and the Black Hawk War. If you live in the Illinois area, you can go to Clarkesville Cemetery and see his tombstone. Also, there is a small cemetery called Dawson Cemetery where you can see a monument to the fort that he built in the area. The fort is no longer there. So far, my research indicates that if one is descended from the General, you are also descended from William the Conqueror, but I'm working very hard to verify these facts. If you want to chat more, e-mail me: nikki_1984_99@yahoo.com

I'm also a descendant of the General. He was my ggggg-great Grandfather. My mother and I have been looking for a cemetery in central IL called McNaught cemetery, where some of our ancestors are buried. We've been to Clarkesville where Gen. is supposedly buried, but there's no mention there that his wife Christiana was also buried there?? Any hints would be appreciated.

W.S. Bartholomew, 3/7/1832, NY >IL > Iowa

W. S. BARTHOLOMEW, farmer and stock-raiser, section 2, Cedar Township, is a native of New York, and was born in Washington County, that State, March 7, 1832. He is the son of Thomas and Sophia (Jones) Bartholomew, both of whom were also natives of New York, but of Irish descent. They were the parents of the following children: Stanley Lucius, a retired farmer, residing in Batavia, Kane Co., Ill.; Mariana, the widow of Eliphalet Watson, residing in Geneva, Ill.; Hannah, the wife of Daniel Warren, a farmer residing in Kane County, Ill.; Jeremiah, a retired farmer living at Richmond, Iowa; W. S. the subject of this sketch, and Ira, a farmer in DuPage County, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bartholomew moved from New York to Illinois about the year 1850, and settled on a small tract of land, where Mr. Bartholomew commenced farming, at which occupation he continued throughout his lifetime. He served in the War of 1812, and for his service received a land warrant. He was a charitable and public-spirited man, giving of his means to aid all public enterprises. He was a devoted member of the Congregational Church until the time of his death, which occurred about the year 1878, in DuPage County, Ill. Mrs. Bartholomew died in the fall of 1879. She was a true type of the Christian woman, a kind and indulgent mother, taking great pride in the education of her children. She was a member of the Congregational Church. Our subject made his home with his parents until thirteen years of age, when he started out in life for himself. He first made his home with a man by the name of Willson, remaining with him until twenty-one years of age. For these eight years of hard toil he received $100. With this $100 young Bartholomew started for Illinois, and upon his arrival in DuPage County, engaged with a gentleman by the name of Stephen Hill, at $140 per year, and remained with him twelve months, then went to work for James Brown, at the same wages, remaining with him one year. Soon after he married Miss Amelia Watson, a native of New York, born May 16, 1837. She was the daughter of Eliphalet and Louisa Watson, both natives of New York.

In 1855 Mr. Bartholomew came with his young bride to Washington County, and here purchased 122 acres of wild land which he commenced to improve, making for himself a home in his adopted State. He now owns 322 acres of fine prairie land, together with eight acres of timber, in all 330 acres. The farm presents a good appearance with its well-tilled fields and fine farm buildings, all of which are the result of his own toil and industry.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew were the parents of seven children: William H. is a farmer in Lime Creek Township; Sanford died at the age of five years; Clara S., deceased, was the wife of Samuel Wilkins; Edward H. is now helping in the management of the home farm; Ira T. and Eliphalet, are at home; and Thomas, a twin brother of Eliphalet, is deceased. On the 15th of October, 1871, death visited this happy home, taking from it the wife and mother. She was a kind parent to her children, a true and loving wife, and a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was greatly beloved, and missed not only by her family but also by the many dear friends with whom she was daily associated. She has left them only to wait their coming on the other shore. Mr. Bartholomew is a member of the Baptist Church. He is a Republican in politics, and takes a great interest in the upbuilding of the State in which he lives.

Portrait and Biographical Album of Washington County, Iowa
1887
pages 454-455
I too am a descendant of General Joseph. Eliza Elvira Bartholomew is my gggg-grandmother. She is the daughter of Joseph Bartholomew & Polly Benson. Joseph is the son of John Bartholomew & Nancy McNaught. And John is the son of General Joseph. I would greatly appreciate any more information about this family... I have just started searching this family line this year, so I don't have much more info than what I just gave you.
I too would be interested in these books that you have been talking about

I have a problem, you show Daniel's father as being Daniel and I got information from another person saying that his fathers name was Johan Bartholomew married to a Dorothy Endt. Could you help me clarify this?
