Frank J. Bartle

As posted in the Weekly Register call on 4/8/1892
Central City, Gilpin County, Colorado

"A telegram was received in this city last Friday from Red Cliff, Eagle County, announcing the death of Frank J. Bartle, of that place. His lifeless body was found in the rear of his place of business. A jury was summoned by the coroner who elicited the fact that he came to his death accidentally, from a weapon of his own hands. Deceased was 52 years of age, and leaves a wife and five children, an aged father and mother, who reside in Nevadaville, a sister in this city and a younger brother. His remains were empalmed and shipped to Denver and then brought to Nevadaville for burial in the Bald Mountain Cemetery on Monday afternoon".
Hi, im looking to trace my ancestors.
And although i dont have a direct descendant who married a Sarah Robinson, what intrigued me was you mentioned a Textile Mill in Bradford. This is where i think there could be a connection, my 5th or 6th great grandfather also owned a textile mill. So maybe another one of his sons or grandchildren where my relative and your relative ie maybe brothers. My 4th great grandfather was Timothy Bartle who was married to a Margaret and the had twin boys in 1809.

W.Hart Bartle born in Kansas, and wife Maude born in Missouri living in Pomona,California in 1930. They live at 566 Jefferson with son W. Hart age 11, Barbara J. age 4 11/12 and Henry H. age 3 10/12,all 3 children born in California.

Here is an article in the Dec 15th 1921 Claremont Courier in Claremont,California.
CHILD DIES
The friends of Mr.Hart Bartle, son of Mr H. H. Bartle, are sympathizing with him over the death of his little son, which died last Saturday after a lingering illness. Mr. Hart Bartle is now living in Pomona and the child had been in the Pomona Valley hospital for several weeks.

U.S.World War Army Enlistment
William H.Bartle Jr. of California born 1918, enlisted 3rd April 1942 as a private with 4 years of high school, single.

William K.Barlte born 16 nov 1918 with mothers maiden Terrill in LA county
Lura C Bartle, female, born 23 sept 1921 with mothers maiden name of Terrill in LA county
Barbara Jean Bartle born 4th of april 1925 with mothers maiden name of Terrill in LA county.
Henry Howard born 29 May 1926 with mothers maiden Terrill in LA county.
In the 1920 census in Pomona,California William H.Bartle has a wife listed as Lura M. and son William H. age one.
Hey there,

I have an Agnes Bartle in my family tree, not sure if same one as yours as there's no record as yet of a Clara. Her name is written in a (Bartle) family bible that's in my family.

The hand-written note in front of the bible mentions her birthday which is 1st November 1888. The family come from the Lincolnshire region in England & is related in some way to Jessie M bartle who is my gr. grandmother on my Mums side.

I have more info relating to the Bartle family if your Agnes is the same as mine so please get in touch!

Regards

Clare

Here is some of what I know about my maternal grandfather:

Ralph Warren Bartle
* Born 5/21/1904
* Married on 9/3/1928 to Ruth Margaret Webster (1/27/1906-6/3/1981)
* Son of Josiah Bartle (1/30/1868-4/21/1912) and Anna Drew (5/19/1870-4/13/1947)

Hope this helps

This original request for information was posted by my sister; she passed away in 2007. I have a lot of family history materials from our paternal side, and I am trying to fill in with more information from the maternal side of the tree. If either of the two people that responded to her initial request are still on here (or anyone else, for that matter) and have information regarding Ralph Bartle, I would be very interested.

I am trying to track down Geneology for LeRoy Weimer Bartle Born 02 Feb 1904 in Pennsylvania. He Married Helen Duncan in 1924 in Honolulu Hawaii as LeRoy Weimer Bartle. They had a son (LeRoy) Later he changed his name to Robert L Bartel, and died in San Francisco, CA. Approximately 1966. I believe he was married to Bonnie at the time and they had a son named Mike. There is a possibilioty that he was also married to a Lois in between Helen and Bonnie and may have fathered a third son named Robert. I am trying to track down LeRoy Weimer Bartle's father and mother. Any information would be helpful
It's a long time since you posted this query but I hope this helps. Josiah Bennetts Bartle was the son of Thomas Bartle and Sarah Vellenoweth Bennett(s) - Sarah was the sister of my great grandfather Samuel Dunn Bennett, whose son (my grandfather) like Josiah became a Methodist Minister, but in England. The Bennetts stem from Cornwall, England and I have lots of information on them of you're interested.

Tony Bennett, Cheshire, UK
tbennett54@aol.com

Bartle family of New Brunswick and/or Martinsville, NJ

Hello, I am related to the New Brunswick/Middlesex County Bartle family which included Chrissie Bartle, first teacher in Highland Park, and Isaac Bartle, who (I believe) built the Bartle Building on Church Street, New Brunswick.

I believe "my" Bartles are related to the Bartle family of Somerset County/Martinsville, but I'm not sure.

My GG-grandfather Arthur Bartle died very young (ca 1896)and I don't know much about this branch of my family. My great-grandmother was only an infant when her father died.

I do have some interesting info (newspaper clippings) on Chrissie Bartle(my grandmother's favorite aunt) I believe Chrissie also taught for a while in Martinsville, so I suspect that the New Brunswick and Martinsville Bartles ARE related.

Would love to correspond/exchange information with other members. Thanks!

Catherine B.
I'm descended from a New Brunswick, New Jersey Bartle--Arthur Bartle. However, he died when his daughter (my GGM) was only an infant, so my info is a bit sketchy. But if I can help, I certainly will.

Do you have any idea what your grandmother's parents' first names were?

Also, there's no chance that you meant "Mary Smith Bartle", is there? I have heard that there were three Bartle brothers who all married Smith sisters sometime in the 19th century. I have more info on that somewhere; if you think it would help you, I'll dig it up! :)

Happy hunting,

Catherine B.

She married Samuel Frame in Edgewood, CA in 1863. Sarah's siblings were Stephen, Lydia, Jerome, Abram and Mary Josephene.

I do not know if this is part of your family or a different branch of Bartles.
HI Art,

My posting was a little (too?) sparse on details. My Blanche's parents are Mary Helen Wilcox b. Feb 25, 1833 New York, d. June 15, 1853 Carrollton, IL (42 days after Blanche's birth) and Rev. William Toy Bartle b. Feb 17, 1822 Mullica Hill, NJ d. June 19, 1913 Claremont, CA. She had seven half-siblings from her father and step-mother Elizabeth Granger Sanburn. This info is based on primary sources and I trust it's accuracy. According to the 1880 U.S. Census, W. T. Bartle's parents were born in Prussia.

Thanks for this information on Blanche. I have begun to suspect that James B. Bartle and his wife Mary Ellen Bartle were cousins since Mary's maiden name is listed as Bartle in the Missouri marriage records. But I hadn't been able to trace Mary's Bartle family. Now I'm beginning to think she may have been this Blanche's sister. The birth dates would fit. James and Mary had a daughter, Blanche born in 1880. This is confirmed by both the 1880 U.S. census for Missouri and the 1881 British census. Mary took her children to visit relatives and was in England in 1881. They were listed in the 1881 census as "visitors" in the home of a Robert Baggaley. They returned to Missouri when James was killed that year.
Thanks again for the info and a new lead.

Art

Deborah,
My 3rd greatgrandmother was Eleanor Bartle or Eleanor Cator. The only information I have on her is from an aunt who listed her as Eleanor Cator Bartle, a widow, who married Samuel A. Skeels/Skeele & had Dewitt C. Skeele in 1825 in Greene, Chenango Co., NY.The 1850 census gives her age as 59. Her son`s death record states her birthplace was Ulster Co., NY. On the IGI at the Familysearch website there is an 1791 baptism record for an Eleanor Bartel, daughter of Andrew Bartel & Chloe. Evidently the Bartels had several children baptised that year at the Presbyterian Church at Greenville, Greene Co., NY. Do you know anything about this Eleanor Bartel/Bartle? Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks!,
Pat R.

My John Bartle was born around 1794 in (Yorkshire?) England and was Christened at Thornton by Bradford, Yorkshire, England. He died in 1881 in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. His wife, Sarah Robinson, was born around 1808 in England and also died about 1808 in Scotch Plains. They emigrated to the US in the 1830's, settled in New Jersey, USA. Brought their children William, Isaac, Ellis and Hannah.

In England the Bartle's own a textile mill (in Bradford). In the US they had a quarry amongst other ventures.

Are we related? I have a fair bit of stuff...

Melanie in BC, Canada

While I can't connect mine to yours, I have a group of Bartle brothers (William, Isaac and Ellis) who married sisters by the last name of Smith (from Wolverhampton, England).

The brothers were born abt 1826-1832 with Isaac marrying Mary Jane Smith in 1853.

My Bartles emigrated to New Jersey in the 1830's.

Details are a little sketchy but I'm working on it!
