Robert Bartol
Robert Bartol, son of George and Mary (Bayless) Bartol, natives of Hartford County, Md., was born December 23, 1814, in Hartford County, Md. He remained with his parents until he was sixteen years of age, when he learned the tanner’s trade in Baltimore. He moved to York County, Penn., in 1834, and bought a farm of 136 acres, which he has since cultivated in connection with tanning. He was married in 1841 to Mary Kurtz, who died in 1864. His second marriage was in 1871 to Mary Quinlan, daughter of Philip and Mary Quinlan, of Hartford County, Md. He had twelve children, ten of whom are living: Sarah, George, James, Robert, Charles, Mary E., John, Corinne M., Nathaniel, Robert, Imogene and Joseph. Mr. Bartol has held several prominent school positions in the Township. He is a brother of Judge Bartol, chief justice of the court of appeals of Maryland.
