Interesting query. We may have your John Albert (Jack) Barton in the Barton Database at www.bartondatabase.info not once but twice! We just don't have enough information to prove the duplication. Using Advanced Search, check out person ID #I30664 and ID # I30985!!!!

Children of Jack Barton in Canada

My grandfather is the son of John Albert (Jack) Barton (1890-1963). Jack's parents were John Barton (b.1858 in Iowa) and Mary Lemay (1873-1958). The family was from northern Ontario, and Jack lived in Sudbury ON, Noranda PQ, and Aylmer ON.

According to my grandfather, Jack had several children with his first wife - but my grandpa can't remember what her name was. He does remember his siblings names, but not much else:

William: Probably one of the eldest children, he lived in the Toronto area by the time my Grandpa was age 5 (1936).

Robert: Was living with his parents by 1936. He was in the army in WWII, and he died in Sudbury, Ontario.

Margaret: My grandfather only met her once, and she had moved out of her parents' house by 1936. She lived in Montreal.

Alec: Lived in Toronto (possibly with William). He was a deaf-mute. At one time he worked in goldmines, and he carved a wooden airplane by hand.

Any information about any of these people would be much appreciated!

William Pryor of Austin & Bastrop Co, 1828 to 1840

William Barton was born in 1782 in Greenville, SC. His 2nd wife was Stacy Pryor, dau of William Pryor (one of Austin's Old 300) probably in Alabama. I have not found record of married but William Pryor moved to Clarke Co, AL in 1814/5. I believe Stacy and William's olderst daughter Parenthia was born in 1816 in Alabama. William and Stacy Barton are listed in Austin's Registry of Families. They are on page 11, #160 with 2 sons, 3 daughters and 5 other dependants (slaves??)

William was called the "Daniel Boone of Texas:. He moved from SC to Kentucky then to Alabama. He was in Marengo Co during the Creek War of 1816. His father died about that time and he inherited 5 slaves. He came to Texas in 1828 with two of his brothers and their familes in 1828. He recieved a headright from the Mexican Government for a league on the west side of the Colorado River in what is now Bastrop Co. He was elected local Comisario in 1830. He was such a loner that when a neighbor settled within ten miles of his cabin, he moved 45 miles up the Colorado River to a site near present day Austin. In 1837, he and Stacy patented land near the springs. (now called Barton Springs)

William's three daughters were recorded as being great beauties and there is on file a letter from William to the Governor asking him to remove the soldiers that had been sent to protect them against the Indians because "it was easier to keep the Indians away than it was to keep the soldiers away from his daughters."

William Barton died on 11 Apr 1840. and was buried near Barton Springs. His bofy was reportedly reinterred in Williamson County near Round Rock by no record of reburial has been found.

Children of William Barton are Wayne Barton (first sheriff of Austin) Jefferson A Barton, Parenthia Barton, Zenobia Barton and Eliza Barton. Both Wayne and Jefferson fought at the Battle of San Jacinto.

Hi Shirley.

Well, I think we must be distant cousins then!

As far as I can see, Thomas Barton, born 1856, was my nan's grandad. His son, Thomas Arthur Barton was her dad. My nan was born in Stepney in 1910, her name was Alice Barton. Most of the family still live in East London.

I have attached an old photo of Thomas Arthur Barton, son of Thomas b1856, that you may be interested in. As I said previously, he is my great grandfather.

I appreciate you sending me the info you did, I didn't know about John Barton or his wife, so I can amend my tree now. If you have any further info or old photos that you think would be relevant, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me via Ancestry or directly on my email, which is: tracy.higgins@ntlworld.com

Nice to hear from you, cuz!

Tracy
xx

If you have any information about Mary and her brother and sisters and her parents, Jacob and Mary. I would love it. I am in Zachariah Kytle's line and am searching for information on Singleton and Singleton Calvin Kytle from GA. You were smart to add your email address to your blog and I have saved it in my email address book. I will contact you that way too. My email is mtnvoice@citcom.net. I live in Transylvania County where both John and Sophia (Kytle) Barton are buried. I hope to find any of their children in this area. Thanks
Lynn Peters

I just found out last week that Jacob and Mary Kytle had a daughter named Sophia Kytle that married John Milton Barton and that she died in Transylvania County. Jacob was my great-great-great-great-grandfather. My line goes through Zachariah and Sarah Johnson Kytle. The funny thing about finding about Sophia is that I LIVE in Transylvania County and I pass the Cathey's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery every time I go into town... and I never knew that my great-great-great-aunt was buried there. I would love to have information or pictures or anything that you can share with me about Sophia and John's family. I would love to know who I might be related to right here in town. I hope this gets to you since it was several years ago that you posted. I look forward to hearing from you.
Lynn Peters

Would like to connect this George to one of the Barton families of NY & PA. I've been able to do this with with my wife's grandmother, Florence Barton b. 1890 daug. of Wm. Barton & Susan Hilton. This is an established Barton line going back to Edward Barton b. 1559 England. There are many researchers of this line.

Any help in identifying the parents of the above George Washington Barton to either the above line or to any other Barton line is appreciated.

Happy Hunting,

Bob & Dee Austin Bond
Avon Park, FL

email: rtbond007@embarqmail.com
I am interested in the Higgs line as I am related to Vangy Tilton Maddox to whom you have replied to in this thread. Do you have any further information on this family as Vangy has recently passed away. Thank You, Carole Tilton Brown.
