When I shared my info with you several years back I cautioned you that we had yet to establish any link. I suspected that Charles & Julius were cousins, not brothers. You published it anyway with no evidence. Now I see people are using your info as a reliable source... and its wrong.
Julius had only 3 siblings (verified)... Ottile, Aganes and Robert and I have documents to prove it. Now you ask me to share more info with you and state that you will not correct the erroneous info because it will take effort on your part. I'm sorry, but I can't share with you under these circumstances. I'll reconsider when you've corrected what you've posted.
Larry

Kristina... regarding the information which Larry Bartsch shared with me - we spent quite some time trying to connect your Bartsch's and mine as they were residing in the same household during one of the census years and all information I had pinpointed them to the same area in Posen. Larry and I both shared the information we had. Although we were unable to obtain documented proof that Friederich and Charles were brothers, we were assuming this fact. We have photos that match names and others which show the striking Bartsch resemblance. This is what researching is all about - you question and find as much information as you can - so others out there can help and perhaps piece together. I did not misuse the information you provided. At the time Larry and I were researching, ancestry was taking any relevant information which was cross referenced and adding it into the trees - I was not - and I could not delete any information without having to delete the entire tree and start from scratch.

Perhaps if you gave the information I just have, you might find more Bartsch relatives out there who will read this and be able to piece information together. By digging and digging and making many phone calls going by documented info and assumptions, you will find a world of resources and doors being opened. Although I do not know who to contact or where to write to, to find the documents of Friederich and Charles being brothers - throwing it out here on the ancestry walls may be helpful.

I am a descendant of Charles Bartsch (1828-1898) and Johanna Dorothea Hoffman (1830-1899). They had 8 children, Charles, William, Robert, Gustave, Paul, Helena, Louise and Mary. All of which I have certificates and documentation for and I also own the grave where most of them are buried (the ones who remained in NY).

Perhaps with all this information combined, we can connect and grow our trees TOGETHER.

Friederich Bartsch & Emilie Klause

We are direct descendants of Friederich Bartsch (1813-1900) and Emilie Klause (1819-1905). Regardless of what you've seen elsewhere, they had only four children. Ottillie, Julius, Robert and Agnes. All born in Posen, Prussia. We have the original death certificates, marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc. etc. We even own the grave where they're buried.
I'm willing to share provided the information is not misused. The previous woman we shared with published with our proof of kinship hence there is much incorrect information showing Charles Bartsch etc being related.

I seen the last name spelled Pflueger, Pflieger and Pflüger.
Lutgard was born in Baden, Germany. She was the daughter of Jacob Pflueger and Caecilia Kraus. They married on 05 Oct 1789 in Au am Rhein, Baden, Germany. This is also the place where Lutgard was born. The family emigrated about 1809.

I have a little more info. Gustav KLAUKE (no BMD available)

I understand that some branches of the BARTSCH/ BARSCH family lived at Brankow [Bronków] and Bobersberg [Bobrowice], a little over 20 kms northeast of Sommerfeld [7 Mar 2010 5:51AM Dale Brose]

Christiane BARTSCH and Wilhelm KLAUKE were my 2G Grandparents.

Thanks, Peter

Marie -- I found you.
Are you still there?
We used to exchange information about our Bartsch's back in 1998, but then:
I had a computer failure
I lost your email address
I moved to Colorado in 1999
I moved back to Virginia in 2005
I did a lot more research on Bartsch
I found your contact information on ancestry

I have since learned that my Hermann Bartsch was born on 15 August 1840 in Königsburg, East Prussia (near Danzig in what is now Poland and the town is currently called Kaliningrad). He was born in the same town as your Otto Johann Emil Bartsch. Hermann Immigrated from Königsburg through Danzig to Liverpool, England. He sailed from Liverpool to New York City on 1 Sep 1858 on the US Ship Yorkshire belonging to the Marshall and Company Black Ball Line. Average trip on this ship was 29 days, so he probably arrived in NY around 30 Sep 1858.

He lived and worked in NYC as a printer, married Sophia Adler and had 10 Children. He served in the NJ Infantry for 3 years (1861-1864) during the Civil War and was wounded. He mustered out as a Sergeant. He became a naturalized citizen by the Superior Court of NY on 2 Jun 1882.

I learned about his birth date and place after locating a passport application he made on 14 Jul 1899 when he had already retired and was living in Milford NJ.

Hermann Bartsch died in Oradell on 1 Sep 1858. I do not know where he is buried, but am sure it is Bergen County.

Since your Otto is also from Königsburg, I suspect he is related to my Hermann, especially since they both ended up in Bergen County.

What have you learned in the last 13 years??????
Cheers,
Carl Weaver

I have been looking to find my great grandmother Bartsch and no records or clues yet. I was told her name was Amelia Caroline Bartsch (or maybe Caroline Amelia?). The census of her children said she was born in Germany/Prussia. She married Charles Fredrick Herman and had all 5 of her children in Detroit Michigan. She died some time between her last baby in 1892 and the remarriage of her widowed husband in 1898. Her children (August, Paul, Robert, Rose and Frieda -Herman-) and widowed husband moved to Williamston Michigan with his new bride. Any information would be much appreciated. itsalthea@yahoo.com. Thanks, Althea.

I am trying to figure out if my Bartch had changed his name from Bartsch to Bartch. I can't seem to find his parents or siblings. The earliest census I have is 1880 in which Ernest Bartch is already married. He was born in Tenn and his parents are from Prussia. His obit in 1913 has him listed as Bartsch and does not mention anyone else other than his children.
cofused, Connie

Hi Janine,
So how are you related? I very much recognize the names as I have began to research them also.
Henry Lawrence Myers was my great grandfather. His son Hugh Duncan Myers was my grandfather.
I have some info on this family on my family tree on Ancestry.com, my tree name is Lady Tree.
I did not know that Carl Bartsch's middle name was Cass. Now I know why Wilhelmina (Minnie) named her first born son Carl Cass Myers. :)
Let me know if you have any info that I don't have on my tree. If you have any copies of birth certificates, death, certificates, obituaries, or pics, I would love to get a copy of them. I do have some of the obituries already.
I am trying to find the ship that they came over on from Germany, but haven't found it yet.
You can reach me at bruce32822@cfl.rr.com.
Hi Susan,
My William Bartsch was born October 1856 in Germany. He married an Amelia. I don't know her last name. She was born in NY February 1863. William has remained somewhat a mystery. I have traced all his brothers & sisters and parents coming to the US, but I can't find immigration records for him. I am assuming he came before 1881 (before he married Amelia). From census records, before marrying Amelia, William lived with what I think are his cousins (also Bartsch's). I have made friends on ancestry with Larry Bartsch. Our lines keep crossing but we haven't established a true connection yet. His Bartsch's lived with my Bartsch's and vice versa from census records. We have shared Bartsch photos that could pass for twins! We are thinking that his Julius Bartsch and my William Bartsch have the same grandparents - but neither of us can make it back that far to confirm it. So if this William is not yours, then most likely he would be Larry's family - unless you are Larry's daughter. I'm trying to remember names he has mentioned to me. I lost touch with him about a year ago when he changed email addresses. We spoke on the phone several times, but his number has changed since then also. To help you further, from census records, William and Amelia had 3 children - William, Amelia and Robert. Amelia married Thomas Holt (they had several children, 5 that I can account for). Robert married Minnie Cook (no children that I can account for). But if you trace ancestry, you know how off information can be! In fact it took me 6 years, but I found siblings of the original William we are speaking of - out in Kansas. I managed to add over 250 people to my family tree just from those relatives! So it's been fun over the years to try to piece it all together. Hopefully something I have written above will make sense to you. Please let me know and thanks! You can contact me directly at tazgraphx @ aol.com
Nadine

That is awesome! What I have seems very limited to me. But I do have some rare treats that I can share like the elsass census. I also have some censuses. Ooooh, I have the ships manifest, ship's photo & bio of when they came over. It is off my computer so the photo is not the greatest; but still very cool! Johanna and John Richter's daughter, Margaret married a man named Joe Schmidt and their son Julius Schmidt is my dad. My name is Donna (Schmidt) Fetzer. That kinda let's you know where I sit in this line. I have a family tree of the Schmidt side (no documents), but no one I know has done one of the bartsch side, I am looking for anything that links my grandmother MARGARET (RICHTER) SCHMIDT and my great grandmother JOHANNA (BARTSCH) RICHTER as well as my great grandfather JOHN (JOHANNES) RICHTER, and of course my great great grandparents JACOB BARTSCH and MARGARETHA (ABBERT) BARTSCH.

Whatever you may have would be great. If you would like me to reimburse you for the copying and postage, please let me know what it will be. Let me know what you are looking for and I will gladly get it all to you.

Hi Lynne
thanks for your post, i havent been back here for a while. So far as i can see it is a different Bartsch branch; I do have a Johan Wilhelm Bartsch in mine, but the birth dates dont coincide nor does the parent or spouse details. I guess it was a common set of christian names.

Are you in South Australia? If so i'd be happy to lend you a wonderful new book that was released last year with a deal of "Bartsch " info in it, mostly about the voyage of my ancestors to SA in the Zebra, but it has some generic Bartsch information in it too.

regards

Glenn

I am a decendant of Johan Wilhelm Bartsch born 1837 in Prussia, died 1913 in Wentworth NSW. Listed as a seaman when he came to Australia in 1855 at about 18 yrs. His father was Friedrich Wilhelm Bartsch and his mother Renata Jane Schmidt. Johan married Arabella Weir when he was 28 and later her sister Ellen Weir when he was 42. Arabella is buried in South Australia in Milang Cemetry. I am not sure if your Bartschs are connected to mine.

Hope to hear from someone soon. regards Lynne

Thank you so much for your response, however, the Gottlieb Bartsch on the website you suggested is a different one than the one I am searching for. Our Gottlieb Bartsch lived and died in Germany, and all of his children except for one remained in Germany also.

Gottlieb married Johanna Thiel about 1900. They had four children -- August (born 1875), Pauline (born 1877), Bertha Martha (born 1883 -- immigrated to Illinois), and Karl (born 1890).

We are descended from Bertha Bartha Bartsch who married Reinhold Rudolph Griesch. And, we have lost touch with what ever happened to her family who remained in Germany.

I have records of Karl and Wilhelm coming to the USA in 1873 and residing in Brooklyn, NY. The only information I have on William Bartsch is that he is the son of Wilhelm Bartsch, had one brother, Robert, and two sisters Minnie and Amelia. William had three daughters, Dorothy, Ada, and Lillian, and died at the age of 40. However, some of my information could be incorrect. Does any of this sound like your relatives? I was just curious since I noticed your name was Dorothy and you have Bartsch ancestors.

Do you know if Ernst by any chance had a brother named Carl (or Karl) Bartsch? There seem to be too many coincidences between your Bartsch relatives and mine... regarding family names and European location. I know that my great-great-grandmother, Maria Louise Bartsch (Hansen) was born Jan. 1, 1856 in Piskorsin (province of Silesia) Germany. After WWII Silesia was annexed to Poland. Maria's parents were Carl (or Karl) Bartsch and Maria Hoffman and she has several younger siblings. Part of the family came over from Germany in 1873 and the rest came a few years later. Anyways, when I was looking at your website I was noticing a lot of similar family names in our relatives: Gustav/Gustave, Minnie, Wilhelm/William, Bertha/Robert, Charles/Carl, Mary/Maria, Luise/Louisa/Louise, Anna, Johan/John, Emma/Amelia, etc. It could just be that they are common German names, but it also makes me wonder if there are common ancestors in Germany. I'm currently unsure of Carl (Karl) Bartsch's parents' names, but I will try to do some more research to see if they're related. Thanks!
