It's been quite some time since anyone has replied to this, but I may have some information that you don't. I've only recently started working on genealogy again after doing it with my mom some 20 years ago, so most of the records I have are once they got to the United States.

The family went by Bartchy once they came to the United States.
Christian Baertschi/Bartchy and his wife Margaret Hager came on the USS Albany, arriving 19 Sept 1835. They made their home in Columbiana County, Ohio.
Info on their children:
i. Christian Bartchy Jr. b. 22 Mar 1832 in Adelboden, Canton Bern, Switzerland. Died at sea 1834
ii. Margaritha Bartchy b. 18 Aug 1833 in Adelboden, Canton Bern, Switzerland. m. John Romang, they had 2 children. m. Robert Armbuster they had 1 child.
iii. Magdalena Bartchy b. 9 Feb 1834 in Switzerland. Died 1838 in Ohio.
iv. Mary Bartchy b. 1838 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Died 1937 in Columbiana County, Ohio. m. Patrick Doyle. They had 11 children.
v. Rose Mary Bartchy b. 14 Feb 1839 in Knox Township, Ohio. Died 28 Nov 1928 in Stark County, Alliance, Ohio. m. Patrick Doyle. They had 1 child.
vi. Caleb Bartchy b. 26 Oct 1843 in Columbiana County, West Township, Ohio. Died 18 Nov 1932 in Columbiana County, Knox, Ohio. m Margaret Messimore on 20 Aug 1867 in Columbiana County, Ohio. They had 9 children.
vii. Margaret Bartchy b. 1845 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Died 28 Jan 1896 in Columbiana County, Salem, Ohio. m John Muff on 7 Oct 1867.
viii. Susanna Cathrine Bartchy b. 5 Mar 1847 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Died 29 Oct 1937 in Cuyahoga, Bay Village, Ohio. m Henry Seitz on 16 Dec 1869. They had 4 children.
ix. Christian Bartchy b. 1849 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Died 1861 in Columbiana County, Ohio.
x. Elizabeth Bartchy b. 4 Dec 1949 in Columbiana County, Ohio. m William B. Duncan on 24 Oct 1873. They had 1 child.
xi. Anna Sophia Bartchy b. 1851 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Died 2 Oct 1929 in Columbiana County, Ohio. m Charles Jacob Liebtag in 1875 in Ohio. They had 6 children.
xii. John J. Bartchy b. 14 Oct 1851 in Canton, Ohio. Died 30 Oct 1936 in Canton, Ohio. m Ida Stewart on 14 Sept 1875 in Coshocton County, Ohio. They had 7 children.
xiii. Franklin "Frank" F. Bartchy b. 1853 in Columbiana County, Ohio. m. Alice Liebtag 31 Aug 1880. They had 5 children.

If you have any information/corrections/etc or would like further info on anyone here, please feel free to email me at abmurphy99@gmail.com.
I am looking for parentage info on ULRICH BARTSCHI born Oct. 4, 1824 in Trachselwald, (Lutzelfluh) Bern, Switzerland.

The only info I have on him is that his mother died when he was very young so he lived with his married sister, but left home at an early age. He then emigrated to Chicago, U.S. (and had his house burn down in the Great Chicago Fire)

Ulrich is the GG-Grandfather of my husband, and this line in the U.S. spells it Baertschy

Any help with this brick wall would be greatly appreciated!

~Janice Baertschy
janicebaer@comcast.net

The Bärtschi family originates from Adelboden (Bernese Oberland, Canton Bern). This Swiss name derives from the German name Berchtold. There seems to be a connection with the town of Weesen on the Walensee (a small lake near the end of Lake Zürich where early Bärtschis were located in medieval
times.

Itis not yet organized but I will get something out to you. It does seem that the Baertschi name morphed into Bartchy over time and that for a while they stayed in the Ohio area. Is your information the result of your first hand investigation? or is it from other sources? Some of what I have is from Carl Seik in California.
