Around 7 years ago, I was visiting Chicago's Navy Pier and found a coat of arms place. They guy did a quick search in his database and found our name in it. We printed out the coat of arms. In all seriousness, I really hope its correct because I have not been able to find it anywhere else.

Here's a quick description.
-its a simple yellow "heater" style medieval shield
-a large red chevron pointing up in the middle of the shield
-a small black wolf in the upper portion of the shield above the chevron
-three blue circles in a triangle formation in the lower portion of the shield below the chevron
-the picture also has some fancy looking red and yellow flare with a medieval knight profile above the shield (honestly, I think that could just be added on, but I don't know)

It also came with a brief history of the origins of the family name in Spanish with a brief description of the symbols on the shield. The information is not to substantial, but it's something.

I hope this helps.

Re: is there Basaldua's in California

I believe one of the first Basalduas that lived in California was the Jesuit priest Father Juan Manuel de Basaldua, born in the late 1600s, who followed Father Francisco Maria Piccolo into Baja California to build missions, such as the Mission Santa Rosalia de Mulegé in the early 1700s. I'm sorry this doesn't help the search for any Basalduas in California now, but its a good historical note and a potential place to visit if ever possible.

David was born in Texas sometime in the 1950s and raised there by his grandmother. He lived in Kansas City & Independence, MO, during the 1980s and worked in the construction trade on high-rises and bridges. He and his wife and her two children lived next door to us in the mid-1980s and I lost touch with them when they moved away.

Would love to find them again.

Thank you for any information you can give or pass on to them that I'm looking! Judith still lives in the same house they were next door to. :-)

David told me that his grandfather was from Spain. He didn't tell me that his name is Basque.
Re: LOOKING FOR Basaldua FAMILY

Hi,
My name is Christine Basaldua. I am the granddaughter of Alexander Basaldua and the daughter of Alec Basaldua. All I can tell you from what I have been told and researched is that the original spelling is Bazaldua but from what I research our last name is from Basque origin. The Basque people are from the central-northern parts of Spain and very Southern Parts of France, at least during the first century. Not much is known about the Basque people but I know that most immigrated to North America and South America. Most in the USA, some in Mexico, and Brazil. When I see her again I will ask her if I can barrow it and I will let you know more. My grandfather was born and raised in or near Kingsville, Texas and had 13 sibling. I believe he was the 2nd or 3rd eldest. I have not met all of his siblings because I was told that there was a falling out with the family that and my Grandfather hasn't spoken spanish since he was 5 years old. I had never met my great grandfather because he died before my dad was born and my great grandmother I had met only once and I believe it was for my Baptism but she lived to be 102 or 103 years old on the Basaldua Ranch near Kingsville, Texas. I'm not for sure on all this but my grandmother has made a book on the basaldua family and the next time I see her I will ask to borrow it and will get back to you. I hope this helps a little.

Meaning of the name and location

I am researching the Basaldua/Basaldu family.

According to Ancestry.com, the Basaldua/Basaldu name is Basque: habitational name from Basaldua in Urduna (Orduna), in Biscay province, Spain. It also is a topographical name from BASO=meaning 'wood' or 'forest' + ALDU+ meaning 'high' + the definite article -a on the end. Thus, high forest.

According to Gary Felix, the Bazaldua name can be found in New Spain, Northeastern, Mexico, by 1691. Gary also states that the area of origin is Basque.

My ancestor is Franciso Basaldua/Basaldu, born September, 1840, Mexico. He married Santos Perales, around 1860/63. She was also born in 1840. Both are buried in Encinal, La Salle County, Texas. They were naturalized in 1868. I have not been able to locate the parents of Francisco Basaldua/Basaldu in Mexico.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Gayle Basaldu

My grandfather is Sergio Basaldua and he came from Saltillo, Mexico. His son, which is my father spells his last name "Bazaldua". We have Bazaldua relatives living in Chihuaha, Mexico and Saltillo, Mexico. I am very curious in finding out more about the Bazaldua and Basaldua family origin. If you have any information please post a message for me.

-Alexis Bazaldua
Basaldua Family

Its great to hear the name basaldua, i am learning from this message board on its possible origin. My father had told me that it is from spain. It seems that there are many basaldua's in the texas state, however lately there have been many in california. It would be nice to find out just how one way or another we are related. I myself was born in D.F., Mexico, parents came to california in 1983, and as far as my father says, he only knew of his family in California. Will i will like learn more on the last name, hope someone has a little bit more history.

To all the familia basaldua, take care and maybe a huge basaldua reunion will be awsome.

Hi Rick,

My name is Crystal and I'm currently in Los Angeles CA. I was doing a search for my brothers artwork and stumbled upon this site, intresting to say the least. I'm not sure why I thought my family and I were the only living Basaldua's (laughs) but due to the mispurnounciation through out our lives it's unlikely to run into any others!! I'm sorry but I'm not sure about anyone that you've listed on your post up ad. But what I do know is that my Dad just ordered our coat of arms which represents the name 'Basaldua.' Apparently its originated from Spain. Well that's pretty much all I know on that regards. Best of luck to you on your quest!!

Crystal Basaldua

Hello, I married a Basaldua from Kingsville. There are a bunch of them there and the Corpus Christi area, I think there were at least 11 siblings with the name at my father-inlaws 'level'. I've been looking into the origin of the name, and am not finding a whole lot, but I'm starting to believe that it is of Basque origin from what I have found on the net. They also have family in the valley area, and you are probably related too. I remember a family reunion with lots of Basaldua's from all over. Not a very typical name but they did seem to get around. good luck.

Hi, Sorry, my grandfather was from Montemorelos,Nuevo Leon, Mexico and he had a brother named Santiago that lived in Harlingen, Texas and died in Reynosa, Tamps.,Mexico. We never met anyone else only his wife and children. If this is any help to you maybe they could be in some way related to your mom. If you know her parents names that could also help because in the Mexican birth certificates the parents names appears. Thanks for answering.

Martina
