Hi

I replyed a few weeks ago about the Basford Family.

I have had confirmation that my great grandmothers father was Benjamin Basford.
I have looked on westmidlandsbmd for a marriage for Benjamin Basford at about the time that my great grandmother was born and there are two possibilities.

1. Benjamin Basford m Harriet Hartshorn at Tipton St Martin in 1895.

2. Benjamin Basford m Mercy Poole at Tipton St Martin in 1894.

I realise this second entry is part of your family tree but at the moment i am not sure which Benjamin I have descended from.

Did your Benjamin have a daughter named Sarah born 1898?

Sarah Lilian Married my great grandfather William Joseph Cooper at Dudley register office in 1921.

I would really like to confirm which Benjamin it is , any help you may be able to provide i would be very grateful .

Regards

Caroline

obit fyi - Allys Joy BASFORD Brownfield Magness, 1917 KS. - 2007 CA.

not related - for your info only

Magness, Allys Joy

MAGNESS-Allys Joy Magness died Thursday morning in the house she lived in for 57 years after a brief battle with cancer. She was 89 years old. Allys Joy was born in Caldwell, Kansas, on Dec. 1, 1917. She and her younger sister Juanita moved with their parents, Allys Joy and Thomas Jefferson BASFORD, first to Las Vegas and then to California when the girls were very young. Following their parents' divorce, the girls were raised by their mother. Allys Joy attended Chapman College (now Chapman University) where her love of children led her to become a school teacher. Her first job was in the small town of Holtville, teaching the children of migrant farm workers in a one room schoolhouse on the edge of a dusty field. The students, ages five to eighteen, worked with their parents in the fields on sunny days; when it rained they studied with "Miss Joy." While teaching third grade in El Monte, California, Allys Joy was touched by the blind children who were attempting to mainstream into the education system, and so went back to school to get her certificate to teach Braille. For many years, first as a teacher, and then as a volunteer at Lake Marie in South Whittier, Allys Joy worked to serve the blind community. During World War II, Allys Joy married Carl Brownfield. Just three months later, Carl- a combat pilot- was killed in Europe, leaving Allys Joy a young war widow. After the war , Allys Joy met Chester Magness, recently home from his Army service in Europe, whose mother and sisters had relocated from Olathe, Kansas to Whittier during the war. Chester and Allys Joy were married at the First Christian Church of Whittier in June of 1946. In 1950, the couple moved from Long Beach into a brand new tract home on Loch Lomond Dr. in Whittier where they lived for 57 years. Allys Joy passed away in her bed in that home on Thursday morning October 25, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Chester, her three children, Mark, Marilyn and Paul, daughter-in-law Linda and son-in-law Steve, her four grandhildren, Jason, Andy, Brian and Molly, one great-grandson Chester Keegan, several nieces, nephews and their families, and dozens of dear friends. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church of Whittier on the corner of Greenleaf and Hadley on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 3:30 pm. Friends and family are invited to the service and a reception in her honor immediately following the service at the family home.
Published in the Whittier Daily News on 10/27/2007.
George W Basford bio sketch from History of Allen Co, Ohio

History of Allen Co, Ohio:

"George W Basford, baker, Lima, was born October 29, 1856, in the village of Jeromesville, Ashland Co, Ohio; son of George W Basford and a grandson of George W Basford, Sr, a native of Ireland, and who came to Ohio in a very early day, beoming one of the largest landholders of the State, and who at his death left his children and grandchildren well provided for. The father of our subject has a family of five children: Napoleon O, Mary E, George W, John F and Harry E (Basford). Our subject was educated in Ashland County, Ohio. He was united in marriage, December 28, 1879, with Philira, daughter of James Leoffer, of that county. To this union were born two children: Ethel and James Carlos. Mr Basford came to Lima in Octomber 1884, and opened out in the bakery business."

Looking for more info on the family Basford aka Bashford, Bassford. Trying to verify if the Jane Bashford who married Israel Homan, 1832 in Wayne Co, Oh is the daughter of George W Basford (Sr) who came here from Ireland. That would make Jane the aunt of the George who is the subject of this bio. Jane may have lived in Maryland or Massachusetts before going to Ohio according to census records. Ashland County, Ohio was part of Wayne County, OH at one time.

Hello Basford researchers,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I recently spent some time updating many of the files on the Basford website with data we have collected over the last year or two since the last update. In particular, I updated the family tree register reports for the various Basford lines, as well as the census and VR data. I encourage you to stop by the website if you haven't visited recently (or if you have never been there)!

http://www.basford.org/genealogy/index.html

Please let us know if you have any corrections/additions to the data we've posted. Also, if you are aware of any other sites with Basford data, let me know and we can add a link to it.

Regards,

Kevin Spaulding

As I have told other Basford/Bassford's I am not sure as to if the coat of arms is for the correct line of Basford but I have seen it with my own eyes (per the Kilt shop) and their is a family crest.

The shop is the Scottish Heritage Center their phone number is (562) 499-1760. They have a website link that I did not post as I cannot get it to work.

Good luck to all of you & I hope this helps in some small way!

Re: Australian Basford Branch

My research shows that my step grandfather was John George Basford/Bashford who had a son (George Augustus)with Mary Ford (b: Mary Walker) in 1880 in Carlton, Melbourne. My grandfather (John Edward b: 20 Oct 1870 Melbourne) was Mary's child by her first marriage (John Gray Ford) and he took the name Basford or Bashford. George Augustus died in Maryborough Qld in 1899. I have come up against a brick wall as to how either John Ford or John Basford came to be in Australia. Do you have any more information?

Hi-

I would appreciate any information/resources you can give me regarding the Speedwell, especially any passenger lists, ports of departure and arrival around 1650.

I am trying to trace my GGGGGGGFJohn Partridge (m Magdalene Bullard) back to England. He apparently sailed from British Isles to New England, US ABT 1650 on perhaps the Speedwell.

He, his Brother William and Sister Margaret (Margery) Partridge could have arrived in ports of Boston, Salisbury or Lynn, Mass, US; Hartford, Conn, US, etc.

“Though their exact arrival date and port cannot be found, there is in the archives of Conneticut (sic US) a will of Adam Beebe who died aboard an unnamed ship (sic possibly the Speedwell) to America. This will, evidently written while sailing, has the signatures of William and John Partridge as witnesses. These signatures match those found in the record's of Medfield, Mass, US.“ -- Partridgenest.com

The exact port from which they sailed or arrived is unknown.
Prior to the sailing. however, history had them as residing in:
1) Bethnal Greene, Middlesex, Eng (Partridgenest.com) as well as possibly :
2) Northhamptonshire and/or
3) Navistock Eng

Thank you so much,

Dr. Bob Partridge d0cb0b@verizon.net

Mary Ann Basford - Edward V. Orrell - married Balto, MD

I'm looking for information on Mary Ann Basford who married Edward V. Orrell in Baltimore, Maryland on 17 Aug 1835.

I've seen conflicting reports on her birth year - anywhere from 1815-1821.

She was burined in Western Cemetery in Baltimore City on 15 April 1901 and was found in several census with her husband. Census records indicate she was born in Maryland.

She died in Washington, DC. I'm trying to locate her death certificate to locate parentage.

She was the mother of at least three children - Edward M., Emma A., and Francis Wesley Orrell.

Any information on her parents and family would be appreciate.

Reverdy Lewin Orrell, III
