I am a great granddaughter of Ellen Bashford and have a copy of Ellen's marriage certificate to william Henry Dorber. Certificate states that father of Ellen was William Bashford and that he was a hawker. Having read your message and researched William Bashford - doesn't look like it's true does it?

Nina

Re: BASHFORD of Paris, KY

Joel, I don't have the entire cookbook transcribed; I am typing out recipes as requested. There are two from BASHFORD:

From “The Kentucky Home Cook Book”, compiled by the Ladies of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Maysville, Kentucky. Compiled in 1884, printed in 1890. “Receipts”, as they were called, were written out in paragraph form. I will type them as they are printed, with the original spelling and punctuation.

WELSH RARE-BIT
Put one table-spoonful of butter into a warm skillet with one-quarter of a pound of cut-up cheese. Stir in one egg without beating it, a little Cayenne pepper, and a glass of sherry wine. Have ready some thin slices of toast buttered. Pour over them the melted cheese, and serve at once. Cream may be substituted for the wine.
Mrs. Allen Bashford, Paris, KY, p 188

FROZEN PUDDING (under ICES)
Make a rich custard of a quart of new milk. Have prepared a tea-cupful of seeded raisins, one pound of almonds (in the shell) blanched and powdered, and one tea-cupful of strawberry preserves. Pour over these the hot custard; as soon as cold, put to freeze: when thick as mush, add three pints of rich cream which has been sweetened and whipped. Stir it frequently, so that the fruit may be well mixed.
Mrs. Allen Bashford, Paris, KY, p 301
My Bashford ancestors hail from Nutfield/Blethchingly/Reigate areas. My grandfather was John m Frances Ranger in Effingham, Great grandfather was George m Dora Sparshott 1894 at Reigate and I believe his father was Thomas m Sarah ? 1857 Bletchingley. Would be interested to hear from anyone who recognises any of these names/places in their family tree.
Kim

I have found some more information since my first post as follows:
John Edward George Bashford had two children with Mary Ann Ford. John Edward George Bashford b: 1870 Bourke County (Vic) and George Augustus b: 1880 Carlton (Vic). JEG and GA moved to Maryborough in Queensland in the late 1800's where George died aged 19 and John married an Eva Irene James in 1894. They had 3 daughters and a son who died at birth. They divorced in 1907. John married my grandmother Martha Kitchenham, also in 1907 in Toowoomba. There was a Henry Bashford b: 188 (F: George Bashford M: Sarah Fullove) living in Maryborough about that time. He married Clara Margaret Stellmack in 1905 and was mayor of Maryborough from 1930-1932. Clara's family were famous bakers in Maryborough and as JEG was a baker I'm trying to establish a link between the two. Anyone knowing anything about this family?

Kim,

My maiden name was Bashford. My family come from Woodmansterne near Banstead, Surrey. Am tracing the family tree at the mo, and have been told that my dad's family were from South Nutfield, Horley way and surrounding areas. Perhaps there may be some connections. Unfortunately, at present, I have managed to find out my grandad's father's name. My grandad's name was George (born around 1904) He had three sisters, Beatie (probably Beatrice), Amy and Winifred/Winnie and one brother Fred. Give me a shout if this helps. Debs

I'm researching a Jane Bashford (b abt 1814), she married Israel Homan, 1832 in Wayne Co, Ohio. In one census, it shows that Jane was born in Ohio and another census it shows Massachusetts as her place of birth. I'm wondering if Allen could possilby be her brother. Have you found out anymore on this Bashford line. I saw mention of an Arminda Bashford who lived in Wayne Co, Ohio at one time, she married a Webster. Maybe they all tie in somewhere.
Marge

Hi Liz,
Don't know if you can help me - still fairly new to this genealogy lark but I'm trying to find info on Bashford family residing in Brighton around 1850. Particularly interested in tracing father of Albert Bashford b1852 who married a Jane Reeves b1854. From 1901 census have been able to establish his family as: Alice b1893, Emily b1885, George b1877, John b1883 & Percy b1986. At this time they lived at 27 Whichel Pl Brighton and he an George where Plumber/Journeyman.
I note with interest a profusion of Bashford's in the area but can't seen to tie them together with above.
Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.
Best regards
Bruce
