my husband's great-grandfather was Franceso Basile from Calabria, Italy. His son, Nick, immagrated to New York and then on to Syracuse in 1911. He has a brother who lived in Brazil but not sure of his name. I believe Nick came from a small town, Satriano, in the Calabria region.

Does this sound familiar?

Dear Joseph,

Thank you for responding to me. My paternal grandfather was Bartolo Basile. He was born in Lapari, also; in 1879. He came to the USA about 1904. He lied in the lower East side of Manhattan and finally settled Brooklyn.

I wonder if we are related in someway. I realize that this may be not possible since there were over 300 Basiles who came to the USA.

Grandfather Alfonso Basile was my grandfather. He was father to Nobile R; James; and Elizabeth; and they came to the USA around 1922 on the SS Europa and settled in Paterson. WE are related to the Basiles in Pompton. Nobile of Pompton was, I believe, my fathers cousin. My Grandmother always affectionately called him BoBo [a nickname I now have]. He was a strong guy who'd always pick her up and give her a hug, which made her day! In the 1950's he owned a barber shop on Grove Street in Glen Cove, NY (the area known as the Orchard). I believe that he died sometime around 1960.

Was looking at the message board again. Yes you are related to me. My father was Nobile N. Basile, Grandfather had the same name all from Paterson, N.J. You are a cousin.
When I was a youngster, I was over your parents home in Clifton.

I am trying to get as much info together as possible about the family...I do know that there were many brothers in the Basile family and many of them named their children Nobile, Michael, Alfonso, James, and so on...then their children continued this. There were 4 generations of Nobile's in my immediate family alone. If you would like to write, fell free. I am in contact with the few remaining relatives on the Nobile, Michael and Philomena side.

My e-mail address is j @cfl.rr.com

Hope to hear form you.

Judie Basile-

Hello Robert,
Thanks for responding to my post about the Basile family. I'd very much like to talk with you, as I've not had much luck hunting this line of my family. My Great Aunt Lucy Messina (b.1908) married Nobile Basile Sr. (m. probably in Pompton Lakes area NJ) and had one son, Nobile.

Nobile Jr. (b.~1920's NJ) married a lady name Inez (who already had a daughter named Judy) and they had three sons, Nobile, Joseph and Michael.

I know that there were several Basile families in NJ area, probably brothers who had sons named Nobile. I found the family of Alfonso and Josephine Basile on the 1930 Passaic NJ Census, and they had a son named Nobile as well. Am I correct that this is your father and his family??

If I'm right, your Grandfather Alfonso, may have been my Nobile's Uncle.
That's as clear as mud. Hope we can talk and sort some of this out.

Please email me at home: kacox@adelphia.net
Hope to talk with you soon.
Kathy

am interested if anyone knows anything about Myrtle. She was Allice Flynn's and Peter Basile's Daughter. Apparently, Allice dies soon after the birth of Mytle in 1910 but after the 1910 census as she is shown childless. By 1920, Peter is living with new wife Edna and Mtylte, age 9, is living with Wyatt and Anne Wigginton (my grandparents, Allice's sister) with mother-in-law Matilda Flynn and several of my uncles and aunts (now all gone) who were very young children.

I would also appreciate it if anyone has any information about Peter and did he reconnect with Myrtle.

Thanks

Keith Lapeyrouse
