Re: Abraham Basim, Mifflin,PA 1804

I am looking for the complete list of children of Abraham Basim and Christina Carney of Clarion County, PA. They are related to me by my grandfather's mother's mother's family. My line is decended from Abraham's daughter
Clara Jane Spangler b. 1849, m. Samuel Spangler of Pinegrove Twp Venango County, a son of Jonathan Spangler and Sarah Confer. I have the names of four of Abraham's children: Calvin(1841-), Levi(1838-), Mary Catherine(?) and Clara Jane (1849-1910).

It also seems the Ion, Armagost and Wensel families are inter-related, and those names also cross other lines (Wyman and Whitmore and Reese) of my family history. I'd love to map out that so-far unknown part of the line.. lots of distant cousins there. Here's to genealogical acts of kindness! Looking forward to exchanging information...

Many Thanks,

Michael D. C. Merryman

PS~ it's interesting to note that Calvin and Matilda Basim are found living next to my great-grandfather, Harold W. Merryman, in the 1900 census for Strattenville, Clarion County, PA!

Thank you Linda for the info. I found Levi in my grandmother's notes. He was the son of Calvin(who lost a leg in the Civil War). Calvin and my Mary Catherine were brother and sister, children of Abraham and Christina. I have more...let me know if you are interested.

My Levi is a brother of Calvin. Levi was born in 1838, Calvin in 1841. Maybe Calvin also had a son named Levi -- I don't have any spouse or children for Calvin. In the 1860 census Levi is a son of Abraham and Christina Basim in Clarion Co, PA. In the 1870 and 1880 census, he is a farmer in Macon Co, MO, and in 1890 he is a farmer in Prince Georges Co, MD, married 39 years.

I would be very interested in any additional info you have about Calvin and his siblings, parents, etc. You can email me direct at jferree@bellsouth.net.

Thanks,
Linda Ferree

My husband's family is also decended from Abraham, through his son Levi. Family lore has it that Basim is Dutch. Haven't verified it through documents yet.

Hi Barb, good to hear from you. The info I have on Malona "Basim" is from a page from our family Bible and pension papers for Greer. I'm not sure if there is a mistake somewhere along the lines or not. Also I received some info from Judi Winton, some of which you had sent to her. I guess if we all put heads together we'll come up with a "line" somehow. It may be a crooked line, but it's a line anyway. Take care and thanks for all of your help. I'll send you more later. Bye for now, Mike and Cheryl.
