Re: JAMES TAYLOR BASKET married WILLIE JANE MIDKIFF

My wife's Basket/Baskett family has some sort of Midkiff connection a generation or 2 prior to yours. In the 1860 census of Carroll, Texas Co MO, William Baskett age 40 [b.1820] TN, wife Mary (Turpin) age 40 [b.1820][Independence Co AR] & family are shown & Nancy Makiff age 72 [b.1788] NC is living with them. In the 1850 census of District 93, Shannon Co MO, William Baskett & family are household 199 199; Jeremiah Medkiff age 70 [b.1780] NC & wife Nancy age 67 [b.1783] NC are household 35 35, several doors/farms away. I'm trying to find out if there is a family connection here? Perhaps Nancy's maiden name was Basket/Baskett? Or perhaps Turpin? Any Baskett researcher have info to help on this? Additional census data I've found suggests the parents of William Baskett 1820 TN were Thomas Basket b.ca1790 South Carolina m.unknown b.ca1790 Georgia; they had 6 children, including I believe William Baskett b.1820 TN. Any Basket/Baskett researchers connect here? Fred in Folsom CA

I have hit a brick wall!!! I have found John & Peggy Basket listed in the 1870 Census with children Eunice (19), Sarah (18), Richard (my direct descent 15) and Nova (3). Then I cannot find them anywhere else. I am trying to find John's parents. He was listed as being in Wilson Co. But as I am really researching the McNabb family, I did not sort them all out. If I come across anything in connection to Gideon, I will let you know......... Lisa

In your research have you referenced Gideon Basket, born in KY ca 1840? He was married to Martha George. On the 1880 Shelby Co., KY,census his family was living in the household of W.J. Shepherd and his mother Susan Shepherd (both born in VA). Not sure what the Shepherd connect is.
