Researching wife's ancestry & reviewed other researchers' msgs re: Wm Baskett b.1820 TN d.1896 WA m. Mary Turpin 1840 Shannon Co MO. My THEORY: father = Thomas Basket b.ca1785 SC d.aft1840. Facts behind the THEORY:
-1880 Texas MO census: William Baskett reports father b.SC mother b.GA.
-1840 Ripley MO Census: Thomas Basket 1 m:10-15, 1 m:50-60; 1 f:5-10, 1 f:15-20, 1 f:40-50; Total: 5. Benjamin Turpin & Martin Turpin were neighboring families.
-1830 Gasconade MO census: Thomas Basket 1 m:5-9, 1 m:30-39; 1 f:15-19, 1 f:40-50; Total 4.
--1828 Gasconade MO tax list: Thomas Basket; neighbors: John Turpin, Josiah Turpin: "came 1813."
--Googling NC/SC data I found some "possibles": (1) Thomas Basket "Chief of Tuscarora Indians Bertie Co NC 1765, 1777, (2) Thomas Baskett/Bauskett b.1755 m.1793 Orange Co NC Susannah O'Daniel, attorney, to Newberry Co SC buried Bauskette's Baptist Church Cemetery, children: Nancy, John, William Baskett; (3) Thomas Basket 1800 Newberry Co SC Census--also listed, Yourith Basket.
