Arkansas Baskins

My husband's father, Jesse Lee Baskin of Haynesville, LA, died five years ago. My husband is now interested in his family history, so that he can pass it on to our 13-year old son (the only grandson to carry on the family name). My husband knows that his grandfather was Ceceil Baskin from Columbia County, Arkansas. He was married to Tommie Cooper. Ceceil had two brothers named Oscar & Fred. My father-in-law had one brother (Donald Curtis or Curtis Donald) and two sisters (Catherine & Jeanie). Beyond that, we are lost. I would like to surprise my husband with some family history and would apprecaite any help.

Police say the couple may be driving a tan, customized van with license plates from a southern state.
Fannie Isabella Baskin

Fannie (actually Frances Isabella) was the sister of William Philo Baskin, my gggrandfather, borth Feb. 15, 1828. They also had a brother John born about 1826. Their mother was Olivia Loughridge, daughter of James Jacob Loughridge and Frances Reid. She was born in 1807 and died either at Fannie's birth or shortly after in 1831in Gwinnett County, GA. William Philo and Fannie were born in Gwinnett County, but John may have been born in Carroll County, GA. Their father was John Baskin, born Sept. 22, 1805 and died in 1836 in Gwinnett County, GA. Family lore says William Philo hated his stepmother because she made him help with the carding and spinning on rainy days. He ran away in 1843 when his mother's sister, Catherine Craig (Mrs. Adam Craig) was 2 weeks on her way West, and he hid in a wagon among the bed clothes until he overtook her train. He joined his Aunt Catherine and Uncle Adam and his baby sister Fanny (whom they had taken to raise)and made his home with his Grandfather Loughridge upon arriving in Mississippi some months later, shortly after his 14th birthday. (His residing with his grandfather is verified in the 1850 MS, Chickasaw County, Census.) The Loughridges and family of Wm. Philo Baskin are buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Chickasaw County, MS. Fannie died about 1860. I am not sure where she is buried but I bet she is at Wesley Chapel also. I have almost no info on the Baskins that remained in GA.
Patterson - Baskin marriage abt 1750-1760?

I am trying to follow a Patterson to Baskin connection...

I have a connection to a Samuel Patterson who lived at least part of his life in South Carolina. My firm connection is to Robert S. Patterson, b. ~1837 in South Carolina (Anderson Co, according to his Confed. enlistment papers). He was married to Sarah Priscilla Bush in Barbour Co, AL in 1855 – I found a record of that marriage in the LDS files and it was there I found his father’s name. Robert was evidently too young to marry and had to get his father’s permission and his father signed Samuel Patterson. But I digress...

If I follow Samuel Patterson and do some searching, I find that some folks think he descended from a John Patterson who married Margaret Baskin (or possibly Mary Baskin) OR he was son of Robert H. Patterson who also married either Margaret or Mary Baskin. I would love to correspond with someone who has researched this line and has a good grip on who goes with who. Maybe that will help me figure out my Pattersons...

Thanks much!

--Jane Ambler Patterson
cocamila@cox.net

Searching for my husband's great grandfather, Oliver Baskin, born 1819-1829 in Ireland.

The 1855 NY state census states he lived in Fulton, Schoharie County and had lived there three years with his wife, Mahetable Davis. They had two children, Adelbert Lorenzo age 2 and Benjamin Robert "8/12" (8 months).

My husband, Myron Adelbert Baskin, is the son of Oakley Baskin and Helena Shultes. Oakley is the son of Adelbert Lorenzo.

We believe Oliver died shortly after the 1855 census because Mahetable Baskin married Eliphalet Reynolds in September 1986. Any information about this NY state Oliver Baskin would be greatly appreciated. (There are other Olivers in PA and in southern states.

Baskin & related families in Johnson Co., Arkansas

Hi! I haven't posted on this site for a while, but am still consumed with this hobby! I've been working on trying to get my database as complete and accurate as possible, and am getting ready to submit my updated gedcom to my worldconnect site, which is:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barbdale...

One of the things I am trying hard to do, is get all the obviously related people in my database, in their correct families. As you probably well know, the above named familes married and married and married in Johnson Co., Arkansas over the past 150+ years!

If you have any of the above surnames in your line, please check out my world connect site, and let me know of any additions, corrections, etc. If your line is in mine, I'd love for you to write me directly at:

barbarashultz@flash.net

so we can 'connect'!

My most direct lines are:

William C. Baskin (1782-1865) & Rebecca Gibson
Frederick Laster (1780-1852) & Nancy Smith
Thomas Yandell (b. 1803) & Lucretia Bowling

I hope to hear from a lot of you soon!

Barbara

Any help would be greatly appreciate, trying to reunite the half brothers.
joyce@b-bspyder.com

BASKIN - AL > MS > ?

I'm searching for the below Baskin family. King Baskin and family were initially found in the 1900 MS Newton County census. I have been unable to find this family beyond that census. That 1900 census indicated that King Baskin was born in Alabama - I have no clue whom his parents might be. Further complicating this puzzle is the first name of 'King'. I suspect that 'King' is not his real first name, perhaps a nickname - then again one never knows. I have discovered in the 1920 AR census there is a young King Baskin age 22 - he's half the age of my ancestor, however there could be a connection of some sort (the younger King Baskin was indicated as having been born in MS). I'd appreciate connecting with persons that have information regarding this family group.

KING BASKIN was born April 1870 in Alabama. He married ELIZA ADKINS Abt. 1894 in Mississippi, daughter of THOMAS ADKINS and FANNIE LEWIS. She was born July 1870 in Mississippi.

Children of KING BASKIN and ELIZA ADKINS are:
i.	JESSE BASKIN, b. September 1894.
ii.	JOHN BASKIN, b. January 1898.
iii.	GAIL BASKIN, b. October 1899.
iv.	STELLA BASKIN, b. Unknown.
v.	ANDREW BASKIN, b. Unknown.
vi.	ANNIE BASKIN, b. Unknown.
vii.	FANNIE BASKIN, b. Unknown.
viii.	GEORGE BASKIN, b. Unknown.
ix.	JESTER LEE BASKIN, b. Unknown.
x.	LIDA BASKIN, b. Unknown.
xi.	LUVENIA BASKIN, b. Unknown.
xii.	OTIS BASKIN, b. Unknown.
xiii.	ROY BASKIN, b. Unknown.
I am researching Baskin-McCain marriages, ca 1775-1810. I have a gg-uncle who's middle name was Baskin. For this reason, I believe there may have been a Baskin ancestor. I can go back as far as this gg-uncle's grandfather, but before that the information is sketchy. I know there were a few Baskin middle-named children from the marriage of Hugh McCain, Jr. and Isabella Baskin. Might one of these children be the father of a William Delaney McCain? Here is the line back from my gg-uncle:
Arthur Baskin McCain-born 1884 in Arkansas
(father)Noah Albert McCain-born 1839 in Indiana
(grandfather)William Delaney McCain-born 1811 in Tennessee
(g-grandfather)possibly a James McCain
Thank you,
Kimberly McCain-Correll

Desperate To Know..

Is there anyone out there who can help me begin tracing my roots? I don't have much to go on. My grandfather's name was Bee Baskin. He was born in either Palistine, Arkansas or Tenn. I keep getting conflicting information about where he was born. I do know that his birthdate is July 25, 1897. He served in the U.S. Army. He had sisters named Dora, Jewel and Katie. He also had a brother named Jessie. He married Ella Kinchen (born Dec.2, 1903) of Marianna, Arkansas in December 1922. They had children named Laverne, Ruby, Shelbey, Katie, Melvin and Mary Mageline. He lived in Chicago, Illinois from around 1952-1963. He died in San Francisco, California in July of 1967.
