Obit for Elizabeth (Wagner) Basler 1844 - 1925

From West Bend (WI) Pilot dated November 19, 1925

Mrs. George Basler, nee Elizabeth Wagner, who for many years was a resident of the town of Wayne, passed away in death at home of her sons John and George, at Lomira, on Nov. 11, death resulting from a complication of diseases and the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Basler was born in Germany on Nov. 28, 1844, being a daughter of William and Margaretha Wagner. She came with her parents to America in 1847, the family settling in the town of Wayne. The daughter married George Basler on Nov. 11, 1863, and the couple continued their residence in Wayne for many years. The husband preceded his wife in death about twenty years ago. Mrs. Basler was the mother of eight children, three of whom preceded her in death, among the latter being Mrs. Henry Bachman. The children surviving her are: John, George and William Basler of Lomira; Henry Basler of Kohlsville, and Margaretha (Mrs. William Jaeger) of the town of West Bend. She is also survived by two brothers - John Wagner of Cadott and William Wagner of Theresa - and by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Basler continued her residence on a farm near Kohlsville until eight years ago, since which time she made her home with the sons above named. Her funeral was held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon under the auspices of St. John's church near Kohlsville, interment being made in the congregation's cemetery. Mrs. Basler was truly a woman of sterling worth and character, a loving wife and mother, and a kind and considerate neighbor. Her life of 80 years, 11 months and 13 days, was a long span, yet every day of it was filled with kindness to all about her, and her death has cast a deep gloom not only among those nearest and dearest to her in her family circle, but among all who had the good fortune of knowing her while a resident near Kohlsville and also at Lomira. The bereaved children and other relatives have our profound sympathy.

Hi,
Just saw your posting and am wondering if you are a descendant of Peter Basler and Helena Sellinger. They are my great great great grandparents and were married in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri in 1843. I descend through their son Joseph Basler who was born in Ste. Genevieve Co. in 1848. He married Louise Guethle there in 1868. Their daughter Ceclia Sophia Basler was my great grandmother. I have Lucille Basler's book on the Basler family. If I can help you by providing information from the book, I will be glad to do so. Unfortunately, the book is not well documented.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am descended from Peter Basler (1812-1881) and Helene Selinger (? - 1874). They are my great, great grandparents through their son Isidore (brother to your Joseph.) I am just beginning to research this family with the idea of writing a family narrative. I have Lucille Basler's book but I, too, have questions about the documentation. Did you ever find photos of this family? If you would like, you can email me direct. Perhaps we can compare information and make some determinations. Coincidentally, I have Sowards distantly related on the maternal side, and I live very near you - Kerrville!

Just started BASLER research and was browsing message boards. Saw your message re: Franciskus and Catherine. Perhaps after more than 6 years you have found additional info and hoping it shows a connection to Sebastian BASLER (ca. 1772) and Helene Fitzkam, daughter of Mathai Fitzkam and Anne Marie Mai.

I have just begun researching my Basler family, and most of the information I have comes from Lucille Basler's information about the Baslers who settled in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The information you posted about Sebastian Basler and Helene Fitzkam and their children closely matches the information I have. Can you tell me the source of your information? Have you found further information about the children of Sebastian and Helene? I am descended from their son Peter (1812) who married Helene Selinger, and I am hoping to verify further information about Peter.

Hi Mark,
We have a definite hit! Margaret and Mary were sisters to my grandfather, Nicholas George Druckenbrod. Max, the son of Mary, was his nephew. Also, one of Nicholas' sisters, Catherine, married a Seaver in Plymouth. I believe Seaver's first name was also Nicholas.
In my research papers, I have written, " ? Friemouth" and "? Gochere".....but am not sure who they are. Obviously, my "Friemouth" must be your "Freymuth", but I don't know how they're connected to the Druckenbrod's. Do you?
Margaret (Druckenbrod) Basler was married to a Joseph Basler. I don't believe I have any further information on them. I would like to be able to track down their descendents, though.
The Druckenbrod's also came from Alsace-Lorraine, but I'm not sure exactly what part. I'm having a very difficult time tracking the Druckenbrod ancestry. If you have any information regarding them to offer, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have some Druckenbrod grave photos as well, from St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater, Ma., if you would like copies of those. I'd like to have copies of the grave photos of Max and Mary, if convenient for you to send to my email address listed above.
Do you have any Weichel/Richter/Markham connections?
-Kat-
I have been researching my family for six years. I have just found a connection to the name Drukenbrod,Basler and Fryermuth. They are all from the Plymouth Mass. area. My Stephan family came to the US in 1870 and setteld in that area. They came from a small village in Lorraine France called Roppviller, which is just over the border of Germany. I have been going to a Cemetery in Plymouth called St. Joseph's . I have many relatives ,some close and some distant. While walking around it I took pictures of the head stones and researched them. I took a picture of a Maximillan Druckenbrod born 1894 and died 1945. Beside him is a stone that reads mother-Mary Druckenbrod, born 1868, died 1951. I know that my family has the surnames of Druckenbrod,Seaver,Freymuth,Stephan,Braunecker,Basler,Strassel,Kuhn and Kaiser. Let me know if any of these names could be what your looking for.
Mark
