Re: early basom

That's the big mystery. I put a speculative link on my pedigree, mainly to see if I get any good hints. We know there are no records of Basoms emigrating in the 18th century so I've been thinking along the line that the name had a different original spelling, most likely Bason or Bassom, possibly Bascome, Bashom, Buisson. My speculation is that the person called Peter Possom in a Bason family could have been a separate person from another Peter Bason in the same family whose descendants are not listed. The progenitor also could have been an orphan or another indentured laborer.
I don't know about your Marblehead reference; I think I did look into that and couldn't find a link but let me know what you think.

I am looking for Elizabeth, born abt 1921. She would have married a McIntire at 16 in Penn or Illinois. But it is possible that her first marriage was not known publicly.
If i am on the right track, she was the Elizabeth Basom that passed away in Louisiana in 2001. She had a brother named James(Jimmy). Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Shannon
Salem, Oregon

Judy,

Yeah, i know this post was incorrect after talking to you recently. I had this confused as I was going on one census record I found, which i now know is wrong. I deleted the info (I thought) from the tree, but it seems some people still see it :(

My mom told me about Uncle Jimmy Basom that used to come around, I had no idea where he was from, thank you for that info!

Dear Shannon, I just read this and must correct you. She was born April 14, 1921 and died April 25, 2002 in LaFayette, Louisianna. I believe she was only married to your grandpa and Edward Whalen. Divorced from both. I know she had a brother, James that lived in Skokie, Il or close. Maybe had more but this is the only one I met. The two sons were left to live with relatives. I believe she was about sixteen when married the first time. Hope this helps, Judy

the only information I have is peter Basom father was peter basom 1 married to Catherine potter dau. of Herman potter.at this point in the research.I don't believe that herman potter lease his farm land in new york. so the gov. could build a fort.lease was suppose to be up in 99 years that would place it around late 1880's,nothing yet found to prove this at all.
if you google herman potter books. i came across a Herman b.potter in Niagara county. regarding a lease or land in escrow, regarding the Tuscarora indians in there reservations or cattaraugus indian reservation. other than that peter 1 suppose to have been one of many white settlers or land owners in jamica around 1736. also if you have not subscribe try ancestry.com UK.do you know for shure if there might other brother/sisters of peter 11
would appreciate any help as well. the basom name I am certain is of english origin.
The information I have indicates peter BASOM 11 DIED ON FEB 3 ,1813 AT THE AGE OF 54.CATHERINE KESSLER DIED ON FEB 6,1813 AT THE AGE OF 48. BOTH DIED OF SPOTTED FEVER IN GORHAM, ONTARIO county NEW YORK. BACK THEN IT WAS CALLED BETHEL,ONTARIO county NEW YORK.There was a removal around 1863 they were place in the new old Gorham Cem. Do not know if the headstones still exist.and its possible that a relative of either Samuel BOOTS or BENJAMEN BOOTS was in charge of the burial site/plot.Catherine could be a palatine German. Now as far as peter Basom 1 his name shows up on a IGI record indicating he had land in JAMACA around 1747 no information yet found that he own farm land but source could be found in ENGLAND if available.catherine rebbecca potter could be two separate people, one called rebbecca and the other catherine.HERMAN POTTER is believe to have born in HOLLAND in asterdam.do you know of this so called potter affair, meaning he least his land to the u.s. for 99 years so they could build a fort. and the court case around 1886 possibly in GENESEE County ,NEW YORK HOPE THIS HELPS
JEFF

I am a descendant (by marriage) of Minerva Jane "Minnie" BASOM who married (second) Charles "Charlie" Darwin CORNMAN. He died in a sawmill accident before their son Ransford "Rans" Darwin CORNMAN was born. She moved back with her widowed father and siblings to raise her son. Minnie died in the 1940s. Ransford Darwin CORNMAN married Edna Vivia LOVE in Galena, KS. Their only child, James Charles CORNMAN/CORMAN is my husband. 10/20/1920-12/30/2000.
I was burglarized and my laptops and other computer equipment was stolen. I am trying to reconstruct what I can of my files, which was 20 years of research. What format do you put your ancestry research in? I was using FTM. I would really appreciate having you transmit the files you have so I have something to build upon. I am so devastated by the loss of my computers I cannot express what it means. There were literally thousands of people carefully documented.
Regards,
Nancy Malone (Corman)

Thanks for the reply. This is all I know so far. Her name is either Mae Louise or Mabel Louise Born Basom. She married a Walter Lindeman (not exactly sure about the spelling. Had two children Steven (Stephen) and Joseph. They later divorced. I know she had a brother Lewis (Louie) Basom who was the father of Dawn Basom that was killed in 1968-1969 (area). They all lived in Michigan. She would be around 80 years old today and her oldest Steven would be right around 60. Last contact with this distant part of our family, Steven was living in CA.

He was widowed and moved with the family to Pittsburg, KS and later Galena, KS. He stayed in touch with his BASOM family and if you need more about them I can look in my files, which are on a computer hard drive that is now not operational.

Jane Basom is buried outside of Richfield in Pine Church or Pine Hill Cemetary. It is a very Large Marker., on the left hand side of the road (very small cemetary) with many Basom's listed. My Great Grandfather William was her husband, and She is my Great Grandmother. My Grandfathers name is Maurice Hoffman, possibly the third or fourth child, most died young. In the 1860 Census The spelling is Hufman, but Hoffman, Huffman, Hufman, Hofman, wer all interchangeable spellings due to the heavy "Dutch" accents. He remarried after her death, and only his birth is listed on the marker, I don't think he is interned with her, but I don't know this. I can get you more information, but do not have it at this location.

Basom (Sept.12 ,1874) married Ellen Nellis and had a child Adalaide Leone (Feb. 13, 1874-Mar.6,1922) and she married Edward G. Willey in 1902 in AR. and they had a child Kenneth L Willie and the Bible is in PA now

Rudolph, Jr. was married to Julie from East Buffalo Twp. here in Pa. In a letter writen in 1836 her name was listed as Juliann. I saw the letter he had to sign to sign off his father's land which in 1836 was "Owned" by his brother Christian, but not really. He received $30.00. He was albe to write his own name at that time...some of the family members signed with an X. The letters , etc. are in the historical society in Richfield I didn't have a list of his children, so that is helpful...if you have them on down the line, we can add it to the family history we are working on here in the Richfield area.
