L.B. Bassham/ Benjamin F. Thompson (Obion County, TN)

Trying to confirm L.B. Bassham who married Benjamin F. Thompson in Obion County, TN 1849 was named Louisa. I know it is a long shot but that is all I have at this point by way of confirmation. My Benjamin and Louisa are in Fulton Co, KY 1850 census (neighbor counties). The age is wrong but back then it almost always was so who knows? Louisa's death index notation shows her as only 24 in 1860 so maybe they lied in 1850 to make the way older B.F. feel better who knows? Something wasn't right but from 1850-1860 I am certain it is them. Paperwork backs me up.
Thanks for any help

P.S. if you can connect Bassham to Bell in Obion County, TN it may help as well. The 20 something year old Mary Amanda Bell lives with B.F. and his young daughter Josephine (8) in 1860 Randolph County, AR. Mary Amanda was too young to know anything other than what was stated in the census (born TN) but I'm hoping I found her and her dad's name was John Bell. Especially since he lived next door to a Nicholas Thompson.

But really who knows? I've done a Y-12 DNA on my dad (cant afford to upgrade as of yet because I've had cancer and am out of a job) but maybe eventually. I'm trying anyway. I've researched my Thompsons since childhood and even though Louisa wouldn't be blood kin she's just as important to my history. Thank you.

Hi Sylvia,

My name is Wendy. I believe you are my mother's half-sister. Her name is Norma, born in 1942 in Tennessee. Her birth father was Norman Bassham (the the nickname "Curly"), her birth mother is Beulah Mae. I'm not sure of all the details, but I believe Mae and Norman divorced and both remarried and had other children. My mom knows that Sylvia (you?) is one of the half-sisters, and she knows she there is another but can't remember her name. Does this sound accurate?

Hi,

Your father and mother are buried with your Dad's father and his step-mother.....(Johnie Thomas & L. Joyce Endy) not his siblings. There are many other Bassham's in the same cemetery. Most are related to your father. They include many cousins and an uncle.

Your father had a half brother (who is buried in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Ca) and a half sister. (same father but different mothers).
Guy William (GW) Bassham m. Leone Richards TX abt 1924

Does anyone have any info on Guy William Bassham? He married Leone Richards in Texas about 1924. Guy (who also went by G.W.) and Leone (pronounced "Leona") had a daughter Shirley June Bassham about 1925-26 and a son Maurice, who was born Feb 1929 in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. Leone was from Seagraves, Gaines Co., in far west Texas. Family stories have it that Guy was from Odessa (Ector Co.)

I cannot find anything on Guy in the normal sources (census, Texas birth/marriage records, etc.). Guy and Leone apparently divorced about 1929; she remarried. Shirley June married several times, the last I can find in the Amarillo (Potter Co) area.

There was a Guy Nelson Bassham born in Cottle Co. in 1903, and a G.W. (George W.) Bassham who had a child Allen Dwain Bassham in Upshur Co. in 1933, but these two do not seem to be the right Guy Bassham.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I have a John William Bassham Married to a Sarah Baldwin living in Dallas county around 1870. On a probate of John William Bassham there is a Hatfield listed on it. THe Bassham's started in Giles County Tennessee. They then moved south just across the boarder then to Arkansas in the 1850's then moved to Missouri around 1860. They are listed in the 1870 census. They then moved back to Arkansas in Crawford and Logan County. They then moved to Oklahoma after 1900 but before 1910.

I am researching a Bassham line that comes from Giles County Tenn. John W. Bassham Married Sarah Ann Baldwin around 1846. They also moved to Alabama then back to Tenn. They then Moved to Dallas County, Missouri then back to Arkansas then to Oklahoma. They were moving so much that I was not able to find them on the Census until 1870. Most of the information that I have comes from the Civil war Pension App of John William Bassham. IT talks about family friends such as William D. Hardy, Andrew Knight, Joseph and Nancey Rogers, Spencer Rogers living in or around Puluski. I do not know who the parents of John W. were.

She dies there in 1887, buried at Moores School House. Believe her maiden name to be Elizabeth Brashears. At the time of the 1850 Census in Lawrence Cty, this D.A. Bassham & family are residing next door to widow of Drury A. Basham, who is believed to be son of Archibald Basham; this Drury A. is believed to have been born in the 1790's and died in 1845 in Lawrence Cty. Do not know the relationship of the two families. Would appreciate any information on the D.A.Bassham, born in 1814.

Hatfield / Bassham

Seeking Bassham / Hatfield 1806-1815 TN
Elias Hatfield, my gr gr grandfather, b. ca 1806 TN was first recorded in the 1840 census of Crawford CO, AR and again in the 1850 census of Greene CO, MO. There is an Elias Hatfield on the 1830 census of Cumberland CO, KY without absolute proof that this is "the Elias".
I believe that my Elias is kin to the Valentine Jr. Hatfield clan that moved from TN to Fulton CO, AR in 1840-1850 (ref. Harry Sellards Hatfield book pp. 426-427). My gr grandfather Francis Marion Hatfield (son of Elias) b. ca 1846-48 MO moved to AR and then was in The Oklahoma Land Run of '89. My Francis M. had what was termed a cousin named Francis Hatfield (same name) on page 427, 41-4 of Sellards' book. Cousin Francis visited my gr grandfather in 1921 in OK and died during the visit, I have a copy of his death cert. Cousin Francis' line is well documented, but we have no concrete evidence linking our Elias to the Valentine Jr. line.
The next piece of the saga is family rumor that Elias' mother was a Bassham (a red headed Bassham) and that she took Elias out of TN when he was a young boy, to where we don't know perhaps KY. Elias and wife Nancy maybe enumerated on the 1850 Fulton CO. census Page 150 Benton Twp. listed are E. Hatfield age 24 b. TN (this would be 42-46 and perhaps a census error) Nancy W. age 29 b. IL also in the house are David Weir 5 b. AR, and Susan Weir 12 b. AR. Nancy's age and state of birth fit exactly. Elias and Nancy were also recorded in the 1850 Greene CO. MO census as well, interesting and certainly possible for the times.
