Charles Edgar Baysinger is my husbands grandfather, lots of history on his family on our site, The Kenneth L Shetler Family tree. Still searching on Charles himself, the family believes them to be Cherokee but having trouble documenting this. And Charles father is a mystery, always told it was Taylor Baysinger, Bassinger but can't find anything that really ties them together. Any news on your end. Thanks.....Pat Shetler pat_shetler@yahoo.com

I am granddaughter of Julius Basinger: Jacob-Johan to George Dreher-Michael-Horace-Julius. My mother is Sallie,85, and thrilled to know all about her Dad's family. He said his "people" came from Alsace. She has great memories of his brothers but Horace died one year before Mom was born. He moved from TN to Arkansas. My cousin is very ill and also very interested. Her mother is Virginia Basinger McBride. I have posted what I know so far. Very interested in relating an ancestor to the Rev War.

I recently had a male Schoedinger member of my family do a Paternal DNA test on the Schoedinger line. I guess you should be prepared for any results that you receive. My closest paternal DNA match happened to be a Bassinger/Baysinger. It was not a close match, 13 generations or approximately 350 years but the truth is that sometime in the mid-1600s a Basinger male had relations with a Schoedinger married woman and that child was born a Schoedinger and continued to have sons down to my generation. It could have been an adoption or a stepchild who took the name. Now that doesn't change the fact that that "adopted" child continued down the ages and I am certainly part of the Schoedinger family... or am I? Interesting but takes my genealogy in another direction. My Bassinger cousin's line goes back to 1700 in Alsace France which is close to where the Schoedingers also come from.

Judy Lehman, JudyLehm@sbcglobal.net

My Basinger line: Jacob 1700 Alsace, Phillip Jacob Leemmer 1746 Germany, Michael Dreher 1776 PA, Phillip Woolive 1805 VA, Stephen Bassinger 1826 TN, William L 1858 TN, Robert Frank 1888 TX, Robert Leslie 1920 TX.
Yes, this is my William L. Bassinger, wanting to know also how he is kin to the BASSINGERS in Ellis County Texas. There is a William M. Bassinger listed there also, back in the late 1880's and 1890's. My William lived there also back in those days, in fact that is where my William and his wife Bell Simpson married was in Ellis Co. Tx. Thank you for replying .
Donna Foley
donnaj12256@aol.com

Well, if you have found him in the census records, then it is time to dig deeper, which means land and other court records. Check the FHL Catalog for Ellis and nearby counties in Texas, and start ordering the indexes or minutes to those records, unless someone has published books of finding aids. For more about using the FHLC in this way, see:

http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/03/make-family-history-li...

Don't forget to search Ellis Co. TX board, and the archives of the Ellis Co. TX list, along with the USGW archives for that area. See http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/TX/Ellis/

Another resource many don't know about yet is Linkpendium: http://www.linkpendium.com/genealogy/USA/TX/Ellis/

Best,

Valorie

SSN: 451-09-6997, issued: Texas

I searched for an obituary in America's Obituaries and Death Notices through my library, but got no matches.

Mary, I looked for James' death in the California Death Records on Rootsweb (http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi), and I find:

Last Name	First Name	Middle	Birth Date	Mother Maiden	Father Last	Sex	Birth Place	Death Place	Residence	Death Date	SSN	Age
BASSINGER JAMES 02/08/1891 M ILLINOIS SANTA CLARA 12/05/1956 556-10-4456 65 yrs

Unfortunately, his parents aren't listed in this death record, although that information on a death certificate is only a hint, any way. But I do have two suggestions:

1. go to the CA Death Records site, and find James' record. First, click the Add Post-em link, and leave a short message so that other relatives of James will be able to reach you.

2. Click the Order Record link, and print out the letter that will be generated for you. Enclose a check to the Social Security Administration when you send the letter to them, and you should get back his original application for a Social Security number. That will have his home address, his parents, and his signature as a young man.

Good Luck,

Valorie

Hi Bessie,
I am a Basinger by birth and just thought I would let you know you may look for additional spellings of your last name. Bassinger, Basinger, Baysinger, Boesinger, and probably numerous others. Do you know where your family was before Texas. There were many Baysingers in the Carolina's and in Alabama, and Tennessee in earlier days. So do not out rule the other spellings. There are at least 3 spellings of the Basinger we use in my line and I have only went back 4 generations. Good luck and Happy Hunting.
