Hello, It seems we are at about the same place. I began about 5 years ago and abandoned the project - stolen computer, busy schedule. So here I am again, and have the same questions. It seems that you and I are 2nd cousins or once removed. Santford Bastian was my father's uncle. Sant's brother was My grandfather, John Bastian.

I am fairly certain of the Bastians back to George Michael Sebastian (born Freinsheim GER)as you are. I think his father may have been Johann Jacob Sebastian (b 09 Aug 1699). If so, then Johann's parents likely are Daniel Sebastian and Eva Catherine. All supposing, of course.
Helen Bastian

I have an old business card that belonged to a friend of my Dad (Ed Wanko).

Are any of the Bastians on this thread familiar with a George Bastian who had an Auto Body shop at 5531 W. Lisson Ave in Milwaukee, Wi.

My Dad was also in the automotive business in Milwaukee, but came out to California in the late 40's.

I seem to remember George visiting our home in Redlands, CA, somewhere in the late 60's, but I don't recall if he had moved to CA or was visiting from Milwaukee.

Thanks

Cindy

Hi Candice, thanks for that information. I have taken photographs of Henry and Ann's gravesite at kapunda cemetery and while I was there I took a lot of Dunstan grave photographs as well. I will see what I can email them if you are interested in any of them. The 'mercer' connection is a coincidence but very interesting to me. My mother is a mercer and I have very little information about them.

Hi there! I'm not related by blood exactly but I am by marriage.

Henry & Ann's daughter, Jane married a man named Thomas Dunstan. She died here in Australia in 1855 and he married again. He and his second wife Selina Northey (relation to Ann unknown at this point), had a daughter named Susan. She married a man named Alfred Mercer. His uncle, Francis Mercer, is my Great Great Grandfather.

Candice Mutch.

Your grandmother, My Aunt Bess, was my mom's sister, Irene. Yes we are all from PA. Tom and Ray were older than me; Gene and Chuck were younger. We spent many days together, camping and going on picnics. We lost track of them after Aunt Bess died in 1966. I was closest to Ray. My mom will be 90 on June 1. I can help you if you'd like, and I'd like updates on my cousins and their families. So great to hear from you. Joanne

My Great Grandfather was Charles Edward Bastian born in 1890. Not sure if Charles could my great great Grandfather. I think most of us Bastians can trace our roots back to Alcis-Lorrain. I asked my father the name of the church that has all the Bastian history, he told me it was a church in Lancaster NY. If I find more I will let you know.

The earliest record I have of Elizabeth and Matthias is their purchase of land in Lycoming County. Any further information would be most appreciated.

I've never been able to prove who her parents are, thought James might be a brother but not sure of that.

Thanks for your help, I'm holding my breath!

NS Bastion/Bastian/Bastense 1860 US Census IL

Looking for 1860 US Census in Coles Co. IL for Nicholas Schermerhorn Bastion (b. 1808 NY). Usually shows up as NS, once as US. Surname can be Bastian; in 1865 IL state transcription is Bastense. Makes tracking him difficult. So does the fact that he moved around, a lot. In 1859-1864 he was pastor of Christian (Disciples of Christ) church in Shelbyville, Shelby Co. IL. But Nov 13, 1859, son N.S. Bastion jr. b. Matoon, Coles Co. IL Since as a pastor and revivalist he traveled, he may have been in Coles Co. when the 1860 Census was taken. I can't find him anywhere. Someone has told me that in Ancestry, there is one image of 1860 Coles Co. that won't come up. It is remotely possible that this page includes the Bastion family. Does someone have an alternative source of the images, and can check for me, please?

Since I only have him for 1850, 1854 (in IA), 1865 (in Alton, Madison Co, IL), 1870, and 1880, and he died in 1884, any additional data points are important.

The family should include

NS Bastion 52 b. NY
Eunice (usually mispelled)32 b. OH
Jennie (sometimes Jane) 8 b. IA
Myra (sometimes Mary) 3 b. IA
NS jr (sometimes US) infant b. IL
maybe others--if so, please include

Please give me the URL, if possible, so I can get a copy for my files.

Many thanks
Doris Waggoner
Seattle
