I am Ruth Vaughn Stapler, my mother Lois Earlene Bates Cosper Vaughn, never knew her father, Charles Edward Bates, Charley, Madison County, Huntsville, Alabama. She was reintroduced to him again abt 1969-1973. He had old-times, can't spell the medical word sorry. He was like a toddler, & no one wanted to care for him, they found my mom in Ga., as she was the eldest, & the good hearted, loving, God believing Lady she was, my parents took him in. But that is another story.
Here is what I know & now seeking.
Thru good hearted resourceful people on the net I have found his parents so I will start with them.
George & Mettie Bates in the 1900 Bedford County TN census
George Bates Feb 1876 24 Married 1 yr Tn/Tn/Tn
Mettie Bates June 1882 18 Tn/Tn/Tn
(She was a mother of 1 but 0 alive) so must have lost one during first year of marriage)

1910 Moore County TN census records:

This is the 1930 census Troup County, Georgia
Charles Bates wife Alva children Lois {my mother} and A.C. he is a "?Daffer"{ this is doffer] in a cotton mill both parents are born in TN for Charles and Ala for Alva.
THEY HAD 1 MORE CHILD BOBBY, THEN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER Charley LEFT THEM, ALVIE WAS LEFT TO RAISE 3 CHILDREN ALONE. HE WENT ON TO TAKE A 2ND FAMILY WITH Georgia MIDDLETON. THEY HAD 9 CHILDREN, FIRST 4 BORN IN AL., LAST 5 IN Chattanooga, Tennessee. HE THEN LEFT HER WHEN THE BABY WAS LESS THAN A YEAR. HE WENT BACK TO MADISON, AL., & LEFT HER ALONE TO RAISE 9.

WHAT I AM ASKING IS ANY INFO ON THE PARENTS OF CHARLEY'S YOU MAY HAVE. OTHER SURNAMES THAT TIE INTO THIS Bates LINE THAT IS IN Tennessee ARE FULMER, CORA LEE, COFFEE COUNTY. SHE IS MY MYSTERY ALSO. MATHIS, FRANCIS {FRANK} MARION, Alabama.
