Dear Ms. Sturgill--
This is a belated response to your 2002 query regarding Bertram G. Bates.
He was my uncle, born to Bertram and Lottie Bates in Portland, Oregon in 1896. With his parents he moved to Roseburg around the turn of the century; their unnamed infant child is buried in the Oddfellows Cemetery there. His marriage to Mabel did not last; they were divorced in the early 1920's. Subsequently he married Nova Lough, with whom he had two children, Sally and Brent. Eventually they divorced and he moved to California, where he married a lady named Helen, whose last name I cannot recall. They had three children, Sandra, Zara, and Ray. This marriage lasted, and Bert died of a heart attack in Bakersfield, CA in, I believe, 1963. I'll check the ancestry.com forum site in about a week, in case you have any other questions.
