SPIRITSEEKER123: Have found an ancestor of mine born and married in Christian Malford, Wilts. Name Eliza BATH born bet. 1825-1826, mother Elizabeth BATH, father unknown (marriage certificate shows Eliza as illegitimate). Also on marriage certifiate a witness was an Amelia BATH. Could these have any connections to your Mary BATH? If you have found anymore information on BATH families in Christian Malford I'd be grateful for any help. Eliza's husband Joseph Compton also came from Chrisitan Malford. When did your relative go to Aus? In 1881 there were quite a few BATH families still living in the village.

Hi Jessica - I am related to you through your great-grandmother, Flora Bates Bath. She was a sister of my grandfather, John S. Bates, Jr. So you are one generation farther "downstream" than me. Uncle Charlie, as I knew him, used to visit my grandmother in Norwalk, CT when I was a boy (1950's). My research goal was to determine what happened to Flora, my grandfather's sibling, which I eventually pieced together. I can provide you with whatever you want on the Bates line. Also, Charles Bath's parents and some young siblings are buried in Fairview Cemetery in New Britain, a few miles from my home in Wethersfield, CT. If you would like, I will run over there and get you a photo and the inscriptions.
Let me know what you would like. I'll be glad to help you out. E-mail me at john.bates2@att.net.
Regards, Jack Bates
Anna Bath Richards, my husband's grandmother, was the sister of Uncle Charlie. I met him a few times at my in-laws home in Cheshire, Ct. We had communicated with a Christine Bath, who is probably your aunt. You can find them in the 1880 census in New Britain, Ct. Thier mother's maiden name was Monsees and they also are in the 1880 census in New Britain. We know they came from Hamburg, Germany. They were probably friends of my husband's family, who changed thier name from Reichard to Richards, and came from the same area in Germany and also settled in New Britain. We have not been able to get back further than the time of immagration from Germany.

The French "de Bathe" surname comes from the Allsace / Loraine districts. Originally German pricipalities, they were conquered and annexed to France by Louis XIV. Some of the Germans that remained eventually began to modify their names to French variants. The de Bathe name apparently originated as Bõth.
I hope you speak French. You'll have to search French records.
Good Luck

Re: John Bath of Wiltshire, England - need help

Here's what I've been told :
Most of the Bath's of Wiltshire are descended from Julien (Julian) Bathe (de Bathe) who died in Purton in 1564. He was the son of Christopher de Bathe of Drogheda, Ireland. The Irish de Bathe family claim descent from a Hugo de Bathe an Anglo-Norman participant in the 1169-1172 conquest of Ireland (see Burkes Peerage and Baronettage).

Unfortunately John is a very common name amongst them. If your John is located near Purton he's probably of this family. Check for the name Bathe as well as Bath. There are many searchable records in the "British National archives" and " Access to Archives" on this family. Also a book available through the Mormon library on their "family search internet genealogy service" titled something like "Baths in the 1851(?) Wiltshire Census".

He married Elizabeth Muller,Bavaria/Germany died 1849 in Franklin County, Indiana...I would like to exchange information if possible. My computer went down and I lost most of my information off of here but I had printed most of the information.

I have extensive information regarding George Bath and his family in Georgia. However, his parents remain a mystery. He was born in NY according to census and military records. He fought in the Seminole Wars in FL, then came to Georgia and enlisted in Bulloch Co. in the Confederate Army. After the Civil War he married Nancy Crosby of Bulloch Co. daughter of William Crosby and Leasy Stanaland.
In later census records George Bath indicates that his parents were born in France. Please notify me if you have any information regarding this family.

I am really struggling to find Isaac Frank Bath who immigrated from England and married Mary Catherine Hughes who was born in Delaware. They appear on census in 1880 in Iowa, but I can not find marriage or death records. I am especially interested in locating the England side of Mr Bath. I was told he, or his father, were a sea captain. He was born around 1840 and died between 1881 and 1900. His son, Charles Oscar Bath settled in Webster County Missouri between 1880 and 1950. If this is a connection with anyone, I will gladly share information about the descendents.

Hello Deborah,

Forgive me for contacting you on this site, but try as I might I could not come up with the site for the City of Bath. From your reply to this query it appears you have access to just the information I desperately need.

I have recently received the WW1 military records of my grandfather FRANK WILLIAM WILSON who served in the Canadian Army. My father was told as a very young boy that he had been killed in France in 1916. My father went to his grave in 1985 never knowing this was not true. It is an intreaguing mystery I'm trying to solve. FRANK was at the Bath War hospital in 1918 and married an EVELYN ALICE, (last name not given) She lived at the Mayfield address. I can find no record of this marriage on "Free BMDs" If you can find information about the occupants of this address it might be the clue that I need.

My ggrandfather evidentally had another family that we know nothing about. He died in 1951 in Regina, Canada. Thanking you in advance. GUY WILSON , Lake Tahoe.

could you also send me the address for the site I really should be using

I'm looking for information on Emma Bath. She was named as the mother on the birth certificate of Frederick John Mckay.
The father was named as Alexander McKay.

Frederick John Mckay was born 5 April 1867 at 3 Princes Street, Saint Pancras.

I've found Emma in 1871 in Whitfield Street Tottenham Court, London aged 36 with her 3 year old son but no sign of Alexander. Emma was registered as having been born in Vernham Hampshire but I can't find any evidence of her birth nor any Bath family in the area in 1841 or 1851.
