I have a great uncle - George Bathke who was burried in a cemetary in Trenton, NY (Oneida County). He had a son Clyde. George's sister, Katherine, was my grandmother. George had several other siblings, Paul, Bill, Harry...that I know of.

Gottlieb Badke (*23.01.1853 in Jósefów, Koło, protestant church Babiak) had (as far as I know) 15 children. The time of your record fits well.

>The marriage between Gottlieb Badke and Anna Juliane Meger took place at the Evangelical
>church in Kolo on 11 February 1877, and the image I am attaching comes from LDS film #1608616
>item 2, 1877 #6.

The first two children were born in Jósefów and can be found in the Dabie church records, 1.Emilie BADKE *29 December 1877 Jósefów, baptized 10.01.1778, (∞ 1894 Julius HILLER), Film 1608613 item 2, page 8, #1 and 2.Ludwig BADKE *10 February 1879 Jósefów (∞ Therese EFFA) Film 1608613, item 3, page 5, #9. The other children were born in Radawczyk/Lublin area.

>The two marriage records for Michael Badke, 1836 to Karoline Zeyde / Seide and 1857 to
>Eufrosine Kotke, widow Martin, name two different sets of parents. As you rightly say, the first >marriage names his parents as Andreas and Anna Rosine Ganske.

In the 1853 birth record of the protestant church Babiak, Film 0810115, page 6, #11 you find for Gottlieb BADKE: Michał Badke, living in the colony Józefowo, 34 years old and Karolina LIEDKE / LYDKE, 34 years old got a son called Bogumil. That is the polish name for Gottlieb.

Already in 1847 the name LYDKE is mentioned in the Babiak death records for the village Biele (poln. Bielow, about 10 km north of Dabie):
101/1847 Krystina Neuman, † Wierzelin 18.09.1847, 63 years, *Biele, daughter of Kasper Neumann and Marianna LYDKE, leaving Andrzey Neumann and 4. children. Z: Gottfryd Neumann, son, 26 and Piotr Sommerfeld 55, neighbor.

The birth of Michał BADKE can be calculated to 1819. See the German translation of Film 0810115, page 6, #11

Nr. 11
Józefowo

Geschehen in Babiałek [Anm. d.

[Unterschriften]

So Michał BADKE (* calc. about 1819) and Karolina LIEDKE (* calc. about 1819) are the parents of Gottlieb BADKE (*23 January 1853 in Jósefów, Koło, protestant church Babiak). They should and could have married before 1853, perhaps in Babiak. I was looking for a marriage before the birth of Gottlieb BADKE on 23 January 1853, and regarding that the first marriage record on 3 July 1836 (Babiak 30/1836) gives plausible parents. Age, time of marriage and place of living fit: Michael BADKE in H. Jósefówo (Hauländerei Jósefówo), *„Kiejsze“, 19 years old son of Andrzej BADKE and Anna Rosyna GANCKE / GANSKE and Karolina ZEYDE * H. Wymýsłowo, 18 years old, daughter of + Krysztof ZEYDE and Anna Dorota born as GAYSMANN. Z.: Michael Pacer 32 from Kiejsze and Krysztof Blyge 38 from H. Wymýsłowo (compare record 24/1857).

Already in 1837 they got their first child Wilhelmina BADKE * calc. 1837 Jósefowo, ∞21.10.1855 Michael Märtin. I have the following record:

KB Babiak. 29/1855 21.10. Michael Märtin *Czerniak 20 years old, 58/1835 son of Jan Märtin and Eufrozyna Kotke and Wilhelmina Badke * Jósefowo 18 years old, daughter of Michael Badke and Anna Karolina geb. Siede. Z.: Fryderyk Bettin 24 on " Lipiny " and Andrzey Kühn 30 on Czerniak.

>But then, the second marriage names
>Andreas and Anna Rosine Neumann. And it is the latter couple that is correct.

The second marriage record on 1 June 1857 is confusing because Michael BADKE is mentioned as widower to Karolina Seyde, so he seems to be the one mentioned in the marriage record in 1836, but the paraents are now of + Andrzej Badke and + Anna Rozyna Neumann:

KB Babiak 24/1857 1.6. Michael Badke widower to Karolina Seyde + 1856 * Kiejsze 40 y. old, son of + Andrzej Badke and + Anna Rozyna Neumann and the widow Eufrozyna Märtin born as Kottke to Jan Märtin + 9.2.1850, * Suszewo 39 years old, daughter of Andrzey Kotke and Rozalia Polej. (compare also to record 32/1833) Z.: Andrzey Kühn 30 and August Krüger 25, both from Czerniak (compare to record 30/1836)

Do you have any explanation for that? What set of parents is the correct? Do you have any information about Gotlieb BADKEs mother, Karolina LIEDKE / LYDKE?

The marriage between Gottlieb Badke and Anna Juliane Meger took place at the Evangelical church in Kolo on 11 February 1877, and the image I am attaching comes from LDS film #1608616 item 2, 1877 #6. Translating from Russian, I have annotated the genealogically relevant information for you directly on the scanned copy--using the Paint program.
I have more I can send--the Badkes of Schwarzenau area, Tymien and Kiejsze are all related, though I cannot exactly determine how. I descend from Christine Badke who was a divorced woman when she married Michael Patzer in 1790 (Wladyslawow church); their daughter Susanne Patzer (born in Kiejsze) was the first wife of my 2nd greatgrandfather Samuel Muth. His second wife was Rosine Badke of Tymien.

the files will need to be sent to a regular email address; here, the allowed formats include only images.

Al Muth (albertmuth734@gmail.com)

Dear Albert,

thank you for the information about

Gottlieb BADKE *21.01.1853 in Jósefów, Kr. Koło.

In the meantime I found the marriage record in the 1874 marriage records of Babiak for Gottlieb BADKE *21.01.1853 in Jósefów nearby Babiak, Kr. Koło and Juliane MEGER / MEGGER / MEGIER *10.01.1857 Ruchena. I did not find anyone who was able to translate the cyrillic handwritten text. But according to oral report Gottlieb BADKE was son of a Michael BADKE.

Please send me you scan to compare it with the record I found. And I have problems with the Juliane MEGER line.

Michael BADKE calc. *1817 Kiejsze, 1. marriage ∞ 03.07.1836 Babiak, 2. marriage 01.06.1857 Babiak.

In the 1853 birth record of Babiak you find for Gottlieb BADKE as record no. 11: Michał Badke, living in the colony Józefowo, 34 years old and Karonina Liedke / Liecke / Liede, 34 years old got a son called Bogumil. That is the polish name for Gottlieb. With older research in the death records Sompolno 1840-1854 I could identify them as Michael Badke (calculated *1817 Kiejsze, ∞03.07.1836 Babiak) und Karolina Lidke calculated * about 1817.

Kiejsze is about 32 km north of the protestant church Dabie / Dombie and 8 km from the protestant church of Babiak. In Babiak I found the marriage:

KB Babiak 30/1836 3.7. Michael BADKE in H. Jósefówo, *„Kiejsze“ 19 years old, son of Andrzej BADKE and Anna Rosyna geb. GANCKE and
Karolina ZEYDE * H. Wymýsłowo 18 years old, daughter of + Krysztof ZEYDE and Anna Dorota born as GAYSMANN. Z.: Michael Pacer 32 from Kiejsze and Krysztof Blyge 38 from H. Wymýsłowo (handschriftlich s.24/1857)

After death of Karolin ZEYDE / SIEDE Michael BADKE married in second marriage on 01.06.1857 Eufrozyna Märtin, born as KOTTE.

The mother of Karolina ZEYDE may have had had another spelling, not GAYSMANN but GLESMANN, what can be concluded from another record:

21/1843 5.11. Ludwik Pubans in Kozik wohnh., * Kozik 20 J. alt S.d. Andrrzey Pubans u.d. Krystina geb. Blyge und die Anna Justina ZYDE * Wymyslow 17 J. alt, T.d. Krystyan ZYDE u.d. Anna Dorota geb. GLESMANN. Z: Gottfried Frytz 30 aus Lubsin und Gottlieb Sznell 21 aus Wymyslow.

Andreas BADKE * about 1787 place unknown.

I am still missing information about his wife Rosyna GANCKE.

I was looking for Andreas Badke. Again in older research I found in the death records Czerniejewo 1780-1794

S. 9 17/1783 Okt. 19.

Büchen H. means " Büchen Hauland " about 7 km west of Czerniejewo, Kreis Witkowo. The Andreas BATHKE from "Büchen Hauland" may have been the father of Andreas Badke * about 1787 place unknown. But that is unclear. Perhaps following the name GRÜNING can help.

If you have further information for the BADKE / BATKE / BATHKE line let me know. I am also interestted in the female lines

- MEGER / MEGGER / MEGIER
- GANCKE
- ZEYDE / ZYDE / SIEDE
- GAYSMANN / GLESMANN

Thank you

Christian

Re: Bathke Family

Something wrong with the timing here. My Grandfather was Ferdinand Bathke. The way I understand it he was the fighest decorated soldier from Wisconsin for WWI, and for that he received something like $250.00 Dollars. With that he bought a dairy just out of Tony Wisconsin. He paid cash for it, but the banker came by and talked him into buying the farm next door that they ahd foreclosed on. This new loan sank his ship so to speak and he lost both farms during the Great Depression. The family Ferdinand and his wife Orabelle (Goben) left Wisconsin the fall before we invaded Germany (D-Day) and came out west to the Willamette Valley here in Oregon. My father Glenn Bathke stayed behind with friends and entered the Army after his 18th Birthday ( his father would not sign for him to enter, he had seen enough during WWI and did not want his son enduring that) in February of the next year and was on Omaha Beach.

So the Ferdinand part matches up, Tony Wisconsin matches up, The wifes names do not and the childrens names do not. My fathers brothers names were John (Jack), Ferdinand (Fritz/Carl), Kenneth, Alfred, and Leonard. The daughters name was Myrtle and was also called Francis.
Myrtle married a man named Schroeder just prior to WWII and did not move to Oregon immediately with the family. She moved out west later.
I have other information if you should want it. I am curious about this matter though.. we seem to have the same man, Ferdinand, married to a few different women.. but perhaps there are many coincidenses here. and they are not the same. let me know. maybe we share the same great grand father.. but how could he have fathered my grandfather in time to fight in WWI?

Hi, here is information about Ratzebuhr/Okonek from www.kartenmeister.com. The German Province was Pommern (Pommerania). It looks like you should be able to order both the Lutheran or Catholic parish records from the LDS church and do the research yourself.
Bathke in Okonek, Poland

Still looking for John and Wilhemina(BLOCK) BATHKE. Have found that the town they were from has been renamed Okonek, Poland from Ratzbuhr, Germany. They immigrated to the US from near Pinnow, Germany. They finally settled in Northern Michigan. Anyone with any information about these people, your help would be so appreciated. Their grown son, August came about 1870. August, it is believed, sent back to Germany for at least one bride. He was married to a woman named Blondina Prokandt and another named Bertha Watchel. Blondina may have had children. Another son named Herman came, not too sure just when. Also, daughter Albertina, and a son Carl with his family came later. Johanna, a niece whose father's name was Julius, came with Carl and his wife, Bertha LUCHT and their family. I know about the families of these people after they get here, I need to know about their German roots.

Dear Carol,

when the Germans were setteled from the Lublin area to the Poznan area in 1940, all were registered by the "Einwanderungszentralstelle (EWZ)". I have looked up these data and have found this from the Zezulin area:

LUDWIG BATKE * 02.09.1870 Dombie/Lodz, baptist, (son of Christian BATKE, * 1818 in Konin and + in Zezulin, baptist, and Florentine SCHACHTSCHNEIDER, * 1846 in Zimne and + in Zezulin, baptist)
married 22.04.1919 in Zezulin with Rasilda KLINGBEIL , * 06.12.1890 Godziembow, / Lublin

LUDWIG BADKE * 10.02.1879 Josefow / Lublin, baptist, (son of Gottlieb BADKE * 1853 Josefow / Lublin, protestant baptised in Radawczyk / Lublin, and Anna Julianna MEGER * 10.01.1857 in Ruckana, baptist, baptised in Radawczyk / Lublin
married 10.07.1913 Lipuweck (probably Lipowiec southeast of Lublin) with Therese EFFA * 28.04.1895 in Bukow / Chelm

Dou you see any connections of the both to one of the four mentionned sons Johann, Christian, Daniel and Michael Christoph Batke, sons of Christian BATKE and Anna KAUS ?

I am looking especially for a connection of Gottlieb BADKE * 1853 to one of the four Batke lines. This is my line.

Christian

They came from Prussia aproximately 1874. If you think this might be the ones you are searching for I have much more information.

Can anyone tell me where George Bathke is buried?

The George Bathke I'm looking for, was born in 1920 and died in 1979. He died at home of a heart attack at the age of 59. His wife's first name was Dot, possibly Dorothy. She died in the early 90's in her eighty's. They lived in Deerfield, New York and hand 2 children, a boy and a girl who would probably be in their late 50's or early 60's.
George may have worked in construction and liked to talk on the CB radio. This is how I know of him.
If anyone could help in any way I'd be greatful.

Dear Carol,

that are good news. As you may have seen in my message from 30th, September 2001, my informations about the BATKE-line are very few. Since then I have researched the HILLER-line in the polish church books. Due to the different languages (GERMAN, POLISH, OLD-RUSSIAN) that took some time, but now I have translations of nearly all church entries of that line. I have written a family history as precise as possible so far (but in German).

I did not care intensivly the BATKE-line since then, but I found a number of books, describing history of Baptism in Poland and a number of historical maps from the different political situations.
I am very interessted in the photos of Daniel and his family. Do you have a written history?

From your message one can conlude, that you are resaerching the BATHKE-line for some time as well as I did the HILLER-line. Are your results published anywhere? I would be very interessted in the full tree, because it may help my with the other lines.

Great to have found you !

Christian

Christian,
Thanks for your reply. Christian Badke indeed married Anna Susanne Kaus and had 4 sons - Johann, Christian, Daniel and Michael Christoph. We are from his son Daniel and second wife Wilhelmina Gutknechts' line.

We have extensive data on Daniel and his descendants, unfortunately Daniel and Wilhelmina's son Gottlieb (that you spoke of) was born March 1, 1870 and couldn't have had a daughter in 1877. Daniel and his first wife Anna Luise Woltmann had a son Gottlieb as well, but he died at age 3.

We have quite a bit of data on Daniel's siblings and are going to look into where you may fit in. Your wife has to be a relation with her roots being in the same area. So I will be in contact again soon. If you are interested, we have photos of Daniel and his family.

Please feel free to contact me directly as I have lots of information I can share with you. I am very interested in anything else you might know as well.

Carol
Dear Carol,

my BATHKE / BATKE / BADKE research starts with

EMILIE BATHKE, * 21.01.1877, Baptist, died 02.03.1940 Radawczyk, Lublin area, married in Radawczyk before 1899 with JULIUS HILLER, * 08.04.1870 in Chwalborzyce nearby Dabie, died 22.03.1955 nearby Hannover / Germany.

EMILIE BATHKE was child of GOTTLIEB BATHKE from Zezulin and JULIANE MEGGER.

He seems to be one of 12 children from the second wife of DANIEL BADKE * 15.06.1818 in Benizewa, who married (2nd.) on 30.01.1855 Dabie with WILHELMINA GUTKNECHT, * 21.12.1834 Durlaty Wloclawek, Bydgoszcz. First wife was LUISE WOLTMANN, * 1820 Brzezinski Holendry, Konin, married 26.11.1841 Zychlin, died 11.12.1854 with 8 children.

DANIEL BADKE was son of CHRISTIAN BADKE, * about 1788 and SUSANNA KAUS. DANIEL BADKE must have change the confession from Lutheran to Baptism about 1870.

What information do you have about the BADKE family, the GUTKNECHT and the KAUS family.

Christian
I have looked up my database for JOHANN CARL BATHKE and a AUGUSTA HENSEL or HENZEL or HANSEL. I did not find them.

There might be a change of spelling over the time and some confusion between BATHKE, BATKE and BADKE, what might be due to the language in Poland, Germany or Canada, where our family lived.

The oldest was CHRISTIAN BADKE/BATKE born bout 1788. He had a son JOHANN BADKE, *1818 Beniszew, Konin area who was married with a LUISE ZINK:

There are some other JOHANN, but do you have at least estimated datas of birth, marriage or death ?

Christian
