Santo Battaglia

My grand-father was Santo Battaglia. He was born in Cefalu, Sicily on 7/29/1891. He entered through Ellis Island on June 26, 1912. His father was named Giovanni and was born on November 25, 1871. I was able to find his WWI draft registration card. It indicated that he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad. On March 29th, 1919, he married Lena (Antonia) Lopiparo. I have Lena Lopiparo's birth certificate and it indicates that she was born at home on 3/8/1899 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her parents names were Nicolo Lopiparo and Giuseppina Seminary. I think the spelling of Seminary is wrong and it might be Simeneri. They were from Contessa Entellina in Sicily. If anyone is connected to these families I would love to be contacted.
Thanks

I need help with my Battaglia Relatives

Giovanni Battaglia married Concetta Cortino in Vittoria, Sicilly where they lived. They had two boys, one was named Giuseppe (b. 1878). Giuseppe married Maria Ferrante who was born in 1886. She had three sisters, Raphaela, Nellie and one other who might be Josephina. The sister's mother died young, their father married and the stepmother was not very nice. That propelled Maria and two of her sisters to travel to New York City in 1905. One of the sisters married a man named Philly Sigretto. Giuseppe and Maria had four children. John b. 1907-1909, Concetta (Connie) b. 1909, George b.1910 and James (Jimmy) b.1913. If you have any information on these people or think you may be related, please let me know. Thanks.

My Guiseppe Battaglia was born in 1861 in Italy, according to the 1900 NYC census. He lists his date of arrival as 1886, at which time he was already married to Filamena Rubano and had 2 sons, Genario and John (born Selora, Italy).
Thank you for your speedy reply! Yes, the Battaglia's buried at Mount Carmel are our family, indeed, we may be a match which would make you cousin to my husband. please do keep in touch. I will have to ask my mother-in-law where in Italy they came from. Do you know the name of Maria's parents? Morris had a daughter named Mary- could be translated to Maria. A GUESS at birth for her would be the early 1900's. I have some old US Census ducuments- it would be interesting to see if your family Gilardi lived on the same block.

Dee,

I have a Carmella Battaglia in my tree, but I think it may be your Guiseppe's sister rather than his daughter. As far as I know, she was born and died in the Casabona area of Italy. She was married to Saverio Macrillo and had eight children, some of which emigrated to the States. Let me know if you think there may be a connection.
