And now I looked on my family tree and found YOUR name, Audrey. Are you one of my Great Uncle Wince's children? My dad is Sam (aka "Butch"). Uncle Wince is the one who gave me a lot of my information some years ago.

Hi,

Are you still looking for information on Wince Batton? Because he is also my ancestor! Born in 1844, died in 1933, lived in Mississippi, married to Georgiana (1856-1955). I don't have information earlier than that, but I have lists of his descendants, including me, his great-great granddaughter. My paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Batton, who was one of Henry Yandell Batton's 16 children.

Tiare Williams Solorzano

Batton/BATTEN, EPLING, NICHOLS, NICHOLAS,METZ- West Va., Ohio

In responding to one message I glanced over several other messages.
Grandma METZ (EPLING) had a sister, Ada, that married a Walter Lee BATTEN. Ada was born probably 1910/11 being 6th child of ten; mainly females. Daughter of William T. EPLING and Mary "Katherine"/ Catherine/ Katie NICHOLS/NICHOLAS. ( Census records: 1900. 1910. 1920)

When Grpa and Grma METZ moved back and forth across the river to Ohio, many times so did brothers and sisters. I know the names as relatives and they lived many times on the same road. A piece of land was for sale that many bought at one time. CONLEY,BATTEN, NORMAN, COTTRELL. They were EPLING sisters that were married.

If this gives one a pause and you want to check; look at Ohio, Summit County, Akron or Stow. Someone mentioned Cleveland. Cleveland and Akron are only about 35 miles apart.

Many people from West Virginia traveled back and forth to avoid the coal mines. They either worked in the rubber/ tire factories or were carpenters, vinyl/aluminum siding, etc. Tradesmen with a good work ethic! At one time it was jokingly said that "Akron was the capital of West Virginia", because just about everyone had ties to West Virginia.

We are cousins! The 'Mary' and William EPLING through me off for a minute. She was Mary Katherine/Catherine and "Katie" in one spot I found. Usually went by her middle name.

There were ten children born to William T. EPLING and Catherine (1900 census) NICHOLAS/NICHOLS.

Ada was No.6 with my grandmother Dola EPLING METZ being number 5. We lost Grandma Metz in Sept. 1999 just a couple of weeks after a COUSIN reunion at Fred and Dorothy Batten's farm. Grandma was 90 years young. I do not have anything on the BATTEN's, other than marriage name and what I have heard Dad tell me. A set of twin boys born to Dorothy and Fred, one of them (twins) deceased about 12 years ago maybe. Fred is gone, too.

I do not know anything about Roma SHORTS.

Does this help or since this message is so old, you may have this info. already.

No, I am not connected to this family. I ran across the death certificate when I was in Richmond at the Library of Virginia. They have death certificates from about 1912 to about 1930 on microfilm there. This certificate was hard to read and I was not familiar with the family names, so any mistakes are likely to be mine, not the informant's.

I assume you are all talking about Samuel Horn Batton/Battan, son of Thomas Batton and Catherine Horn. From what I've been able to gather, his wife was called Tanita. A subtraction date from his death record makes him born Aug. 12, of 1833 probably in Juniata Co. PA although he gave three other counties later. I have some information on hhis children and would appreciate more.

John James Batten

I am seeking any information pertaining to and/or any descendants and pictures of my grandfather, JOHN JAMES BATTEN, and any of the family members shown below.
John was born in 1856, 1858, 1861, 1864, or 1866 (depending upon the document examined). Also, since the border between Virginia and North Carolina shifted several miles, I am not certain if he was born in the extreme south eastern part of Virginia or the extreme north eastern part of North Carolina. He died in May, 1921 in Lake City, Florence County, South Carolina.
John’s parents were James Thomas Batton (1825 - 1875) and Sarah Jane Lovett Batton/Batten (1832 - 1910). They had their primary home in Kempsville, Princess Anne County, VA. But, they also had some property in NC. John had at least 9 siblings (all born in VA): James T. (1853), Name Unknown (B.1854 - D.1855), Ozias W. (1856), Albert J. (1858), Emily J. (1860),
Mary E. (1862), Robert L. (1866 or 1867), Noah F. (1867 or 1869), and Walter J. (1873).

John James Batten was married to Sarah E. Moses in 1884 in Norfolk, VA; and, they had the following children: Emma L. (1886), Grace E. (1888), John J. (1890), Ozias C. (1891),
James T. (1892), and Barbary E. (1894).

Subsequently, John James Batten was married to Alice Laura Bishop in the early 1900's, place unknown. Alice Laura Bishop Batten (1888 - 1926) was probably from the north western part of SC.
Their children were: Harry Clifton (1907 - 1959), Leeroy (1910 or 1911; left home at early age and moved to Midwest), Sara (1915 - 2002), Albert Franklin (1916 - 1968; my father),
James Lawrence (1920- 1999; A.K.A. Larry Batton).

Thanks - Al Batten (315)682-7586

William D. Batton was the son of John T. BAtton (Batten)and Louisa Jane Batten (Batten was her maiden name also- she and her husband were cousins). William was my great grandmother's brother and also the brother of my great great grandmother (my great great grandmother was older than her sister, my great grandmother).Great great grandmother was Louisa Elizabeth Batten Thomas married to David Thomas( my Grandmother's grandparents) and my great grandmother was Ida Malinda Jane Batten married to George Frank Roston (my Grandfather's parents). P.J. Gentry was in error when he listed William's mother as Louisa Jane Roston as it was Batten (Batton).

Are you connected to this family?

Lee Q. or Leigh Q. began life as George Q. Matthew and Lucretia were married in Athens Co. OH and I would assume he was naturalized there which might give a clue to his parents. Nellie married Harvey Joseph LeSueur. You missed the infant born and died in 1881. Earl is listed as Carl in the birth record. Is Laura the only one who married? I have the information on Battin for several generations.
