John James Batten

I am seeking any information pertaining to and/or any descendants and pictures of my grandfather, JOHN JAMES BATTEN, and any of the family members shown below.
John was born in 1856, 1858, 1861, 1864, or 1866 (depending upon the document examined). Also, since the border between Virginia and North Carolina shifted several miles, I am not certain if he was born in the extreme south eastern part of Virginia or the extreme north eastern part of North Carolina. He died in May, 1921 in Lake City, Florence County, South Carolina.
John’s parents were James Thomas Batton (1825 - 1875) and Sarah Jane Lovett Batton/Batten (1832 - 1910). They had their primary home in Kempsville, Princess Anne County, VA. But, they also had some property in NC. John had at least 9 siblings (all born in VA): James T. (1853), Name Unknown (B.1854 - D.1855), Ozias W. (1856), Albert J. (1858), Emily J. (1860),
Mary E. (1862), Robert L. (1866 or 1867), Noah F. (1867 or 1869), and Walter J. (1873).

John James Batten was married to Sarah E. Moses in 1884 in Norfolk, VA; and, they had the following children: Emma L. (1886), Grace E. (1888), John J. (1890), Ozias C. (1891),
James T. (1892), and Barbary E. (1894).

Subsequently, John James Batten was married to Alice Laura Bishop in the early 1900's, place unknown. Alice Laura Bishop Batten (1888 - 1926) was probably from the north western part of SC.
Their children were: Harry Clifton (1907 - 1959), Leeroy (1910 or 1911; left home at early age and moved to Midwest), Sara (1915 - 2002), Albert Franklin (1916 - 1968; my father),
James Lawrence (1920- 1999; A.K.A. Larry Batton).

Thanks - Al Batten (315)682-7586

In the 1870 Census they are shown as living in Drakesville, Davis Co., IA with thier first 2 children born in OH, thier next 2 children born in IA, and their last 2 children born in IL (so from the time they married in 1863 until the 1870 Census, they lived in Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, then back to Iowa). In the 1880 Census they are in Centerville, Appanoose Co., IA. In the 1900 Census, only Lucretia is listed with 4 of her children, she is widowed. My husband's Batton family hails from Northern LA but I'm not sure were they originated. Possibly moved from central Georgia. Family rumor is that they came over to the US in the 1600s.
The mysterious Frank Batton/Batten

Frank Batton (aka Francis or Franklin, Batton or Batten) lived in Reedy at the time of the 1910 census with his wife Bell and children Floy, Rumsey, and Halley. Little else is known about Frank, and he was never spoken of by any of his family members. All inquiries were met with "none of your business." Hence the mystery.
I believe that Frank was the son of William J. and Catherine Runnion Batten, born around 1866---but I have not been able to prove it. Frank and Mary Bell Morris were married in Roane County in 1892 but their parents' names were not on the marriage license. Bell Morris Batten died in Akron in 1926-7 (either divorced, widowed or estranged from Frank), but there is no trace of Frank's death either in WV or Ohio that I can find. One relative said he may have died in 1937, but there are no facts supporting that.
I'm at the end of my rope here and would greatly appreciate any help finding out 1) whether my Frank was William's son, and 2) what the heck happened to him. Please HELP!!!!

Searching for descendants of Edy Louiza Batton, daughter of Abram J. Batton of NC. She was from Perry County, TN and married William O. Bird/Byrd of Perry County. She had died by the 1880 census, but had the following children, Verginia(note spelling from census) 11 in 1880,Mahaley T. 8years, and William A. T.Bird. The family was in the 1880 census in Humphreys County, TN. It is believed they went on to Crockett County, near Alamo later.
Also looking for descendants of Clint Batton who married Josie Bird, sister of William. May be of the same family. Clint is buried near Dyersburg, TN, with their daughter Hellon. Josie and her daughter were teachers and moved to Alameda County, CA, to be near her brother Tom Byrd.
Flora Batton was married to Jim Harris of Decatur County. There is probably a connection between the Battons above. They later moved to McKenzie. They had no children and she was a school teacher.

My grandmother, Mary Jane Batton, daughter of Isaac Batton and Elizabeth (Nicholson) Batton, had 2 brothers that we know very little about. Per the 1880 census in Doddridge Co, WV there was a William who was 2 years old. In the 1900 census for Calhoun Co., WV, William is no longer in the home but there is a James P (born Oct 1882). Supposedly James married a Vernettie Wright. That is all the information I have on them. Does anyone know anything about these 2 men and their families?

I am looking for any info I could get about the ancestors of my great-grandfather Burras Batton. The only information that I have about him is that he was originally from the Crystal Springs area of Mississippi. He somehow made it down to Biloxi where he met my Great-grandmother (Louisa Frances Elder). They lived on the coast until the depression when at that time they moved with their children back to Crystal Springs where he died in 1933. I would appreciate any knowledge shared about him and his family.
