Looking for information about Celia Batts who died around 1820 in Washington Co. GA. She married Stephen Mitchell. Would like to find her marriage location and date she married. In 1797 they lived in Warren Co. GA and had 4 children: Stephen, a minor child, and married daughters Sally Coleman, Susannah Harville and Lucretia Coleman. Differing places of birth, including Celia was born in Scotland and Stephen in Ireland. I have quite a lot of research on Stephen but haven't been able to find either Celia or Stephen's parents or their place of birth.

John E. Batts, b. 1838, Limestone Co., AL

Hello cousins...I'm looking for the parentage of my GGGF John E. Batts. John married Martha Jane Myers, b. 1842, in 1860 and had two children, John Christopher and Lucy Delilah. In 1869, he married Sarah Mildred Horton, b.1848 and sired five sons, Thomas Rolly, George Millard, Walter Bruce, John E. Jr. and my GGF Judson James.
Family lore says John may have also used the name James as evidenced in several land documents.
I can't seem to find him earlier than the 1880 Census. Can someone help?

Kate Batts of Robertson Co., Tennessee in 1817

According to the annals of supernatural history, the story of the Bell Witch started in 1817 when the Bell family, prosperous farmers from Tennessee, began experiencing strange phenomena in their home. First, the house was plagued with knocking and rapping noises and scratching sounds.

Blankets were pulled from beds, family members were kicked and scratched and their hair pulled. Particularly tormented was a 12-year-old Betsy Bell, who was slapped, pinched, bruised and stuck with pins. At first, John Bell was determined to keep the events secret, but soon confided in a friend , who then formed an investigative committee. John Bell's friends soon learned that the strange force in the house had an eerie intelligence. It soon found a voice and from that day on. . .was seldom silent.

The spirit identified itself as the "witch" of Kate Batts, a neighbors of the Bell's, with whom John had experienced bad business dealings over some purchased slaves. "Kate" as the local people began calling her, made daily appearances in the Bell home, wreaking havoc on everyone there. People all over the area of soon learned of the witch and she made appearances, in sounds and voices, all over Robertson County."
(more on website)

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "The Bell Witch." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://www.prairieghosts.com/b-cave.html

Data spans about 100 years starting in 1790 with Jesse Batts.

Anyone having information on the parents or wife of Jesse Batts, born abt 1790, please contact me.
Searching for the daugher, Mary Ella,of Joseph Warren Batts b. 1853 in Alabama and Married Mary Ellen McCatherine in 1877 in Shackelford county Texas. She is reported to have married James Thompson. Was this her only marriage?? Joseph had the following childen by Mary: 1. Thomas Warren b. 1879 2. Hettie Ann b. 1882 3. John Earl b. 1886. Hettie Ann Batts McDowell gave me the names of her brothers and sisters in 1953 when I married her grandson Winston Ervin Coffey. What proof of names do other descendents have?? Hettie Ann married David Sylvanus McDowell in 1901 in Marlow Oklahoma then Indian Territory. I beleive her marriage location is often mixed up with her parents in Texas. Will correspond with anyone working on these lines

BATTS from BETZ?

If you know or believe that your German-origin BATTS started out as BETZ or BAETZ or BATZ, you might be interested in a project of mine.

I have started to compile a list of BETZ researchers, sorted more or less geographically. You can see this list in its current form at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine/betz/BETZR...

I started this effort because I was trying to organize my email correspondence related to my BETZ research. In the process I realized I had quite a treasure trove of data that might be helpful to other BETZ researchers. My intent is to help link people researching related or potentially related BETZ lines to hook up with each other.

Please review the list; if you're on it and haven't heard from me (there were a number of old email addresses that no longer work), or you're not on the list and would like to be, please contact me with a summary of your BETZ research efforts (preferably in a format similar to what I use on the list) and I'll be happy to add you.

Also, please pass this message on to other BETZ researchers (of various spellings, including BATZ, BETTS, BATES) and invite them to review and contribute to the list.

Many thanks.

-- Jillaine Smith, Washington DC

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine
Feilbingert, Rheinpfalz and Schwarzwald to Buffalo 1837-1850
BETZ; BOGDONOFF; DRESSEL; FASSNACHT; GLUNZ; JAUCH; SCHMIDT; SESS

BATTS, J. E. and SALLIE BRIDGERS

I'm looking for the decendents of George Batts, the son of J. E. Batts of Wake County. George and his wife Sallie Bridgers lived in Wilson County when they were married in 1901. They later moved to Wake County (Cary). Their children were: George 1903, Edwin 1907, Margaret (Maggie) 1905, Beulah, Lillian and Linda. Margaret was my mother. Edwin was in the Infantry in WWII and owned a motel called the El Rancho near Raleigh in the 1950's. I think he married Margaruita Cawell and they had a girl born around 1945.
Christian Batts 1800 Fayette County, Pa

In the 1800 Census for Fayette County. Christian Batts, George Batts and John Batts are listed as head of Household. Christian Bates is my ancestor and we have confirmed he left Fayette County and went to Stark County, Ohio. We know this is the same Christian Bates. What we don't know is who the other 2 men were and where they came from. We know Christian and Eve were in York County, Pa. prior to this. We are attempting to find out who his wife Eve was, and where they migrated from and any other info to continue our search.
