The list of children I gave came from Angeline's obituary. Later I did find Francis Bauder as their child in the census. I also noted a nickname "Frankie" for her in the census, so I think she is the Frankie Porter I listed. The obituary also stated that she had 10 children with 9 still living. I never saw a Franklin, so he may have been the one who died young.
Thank you for your help. It made me think to order the Angeline's death record. I had suspected that Angeline was tied to William and Charity Powell but did not want to jump to conclusions without any document supporting it.

Thanks, I just looked online and also see that there is a birth record for
twins Franklin and Francis Bauder born to Leonard L. and Angeline Bauder on June 20, 1848. You didn't mention them in your list of their children - perhaps they died young.
I have not researched Leonard Bauder myself. However, other researchers on Ancestry have posted his parents' names: Leonard Bauder 1770-1850 and Maria Nellis 1776-1845. They have the son Leonard Bauder born 13 Apr 1811. They did not have the maiden name of his wife (just Angeline, but not Angeline Powell) which I found in the death record. There was also an obituary online for Angeline Bauder which stated that her husband Leonard died in 1875. This info is part of my research into certain Powell families of New York state.
I have also posted this information to my tree on Ancestry.

I would appreciate the list as well. I will send the email to you. Thank you for the offer.
To anyone on the board: This is not a direct line but am interested in the maiden name of Angeline Bauder married Leonard Bauder about 1830. She was born about 1812 in Oppenheim, Fulton Co., NY, died 22 Mar 1889 Cortland Co., New York; children include Delos and Ann Eliza Bauder, Kate Ingham, Mrs. O.L. Ingraham, Mrs Frankie Porter of Cortland, Norman Bauder of Gloversville, Mrs. Mary Overbaugh and Mrs. Helen Ingraham of Centreville, Michigan and Delevan of New York.

My sister Betty Bauder was born in New Castle Pennsylvania between 1930 and 1932 I believe. Her father was Herman Arthur Bauder and her mother was Ruth G Bauder. Herman and Ruth were married in January of 1929 and divorced in New Castle in 1937. I would appreciate any information that you might have that will help me locate her. Betty would be 78 to 80 years of age. I have a school picture from 1937-38 and she appears to be about 6 years of age in that photo.

Hi Karen

tried to email you but it came back. Titus and Aravesta would have been my great grandparents. Paul did use Bader. It was easier because no one pronounced it right. He did relocate to Atlantic City, my dad was born there. I am still in the area about 20 miles outside of AC. I never heard Paul called Bud, however Paul's first son Vincent was called Bud. Send me an email to Craph102@aol.com.
Hi Carolyne,
Thanks for the reply! And yes, I'm in PA. Your info in previous postings helped somewhat, but I have no info on Paul, other than others called him Bud, and he lived in Atlantic City. Other siblings I tracked are: Maynard, Hattie, Floyd, Bertha (?), Catherine, and possibly 1 other sister and 3 other brothers (not sure yet). Other than Hattie, we have very, very little info, but apparently Arthur was the only one who's name is Bader; all others were Bauder, from what we found.
Also, we have only that Titus (their father) was married to Alavesta(?) Reiss.
If you want, you could contact me via e-mail, to exchange more info that may be too lengthy for this arena.
Thanks! Karen Bader Heimbach

I have found John Bauder in the 1840 census of Wales, NY. Marilla was part of the town of Wales before becoming a separate township. Before there was an Erie County that area was part of Niagara county. Does anyone have records before 1840 of the John M. Bauder who was one of thefirst settlers of Marilla, NY.

I believe his sons were James, Nathan, Elisha, David, John Jr. and Hiram. I am descended from James.

Hello,
I just found your older posts regarding the Bader family, of which I am one (Karen Bader). My great-grandfather was Titus D. Bader, my grandfather was Arthur Cleveland Bader of Richlandtown, and my father was Luther Titus Bader, also of Richlandtown. I will try deciphering the postings associated with your posting below, to see more of our family tree. Thanks for shedding new light on the family, as I'm still new to genealogy.
Karen

Sorry this is 6 years in response. I haven't been doing a lot of genealogy lately although am still interested. I too found the tombstones of my great-grandparents in the Hellertown cemetery. My grandmother Mertie Bauder Wasser was the daughter of Ellen Bauder who was a daughte of Catherine and Joseph Bauder. You and I are related through several different families. I have forgotten where you live. I live in Maryland but my son now lives in Kutztown so we go to Pa. fairly frequently. My family tree info is under the Wasser famiy tree. I have Jacob Bauder(1805-1874 and Hanna Reiss(1813-1879 as Joseph's parents. I have Hanna's parents as Michael Riess(1780-1853) and Elizabeth Reiss (1780-1879) Her parents were H. Braun and Margaret Grub. I'll have to look up where I got that info. Probably online. If you receive this message email me directly at rstone43@verizon.net. Karen Wasser Stone

Searching for Clara Bauder, mother of Hiram

There are at least a couple of cemetery listings online that say that "Eliza Bauder, wife of Peter", died Jan 1866 and is buried in Keck Memorial Cem., Kendall Co., IL. But the question still remains: Is this Eliza Grace Bauder? Could it be another Eliza and Peter Bauder?

One listing says that the Eliza in Keck Cem. died in Naperville, IL - which straddles the DuPage and Will County lines. Eliza Grace Bauder's place of birth I've seen posted as "Isle of Man", but mostly as "St. John's Island" which is what is now Prince Edward Island, Canada. One of the cemetery listings gives the place of birth of the Eliza Bauder in Keck cem. as "St. John's Island".

If this is Eliza Grace Bauder, why did she go to Illinois? What happened to Peter? Did any of their children go to Kendall/Kane Co.? Were they a part of the Jacob Keck "caravan" that left NY in 1840?

I believe that Peter Bauder was the uncle of my great-great-great-grandfather, James Lawrence Bauder. James died in Kane Co. in 1849 and I believe is buried in the East Aurora/Root St./Memorial Park Cem. in Aurora, Kane Co.

Kendall Co. was created in 1841 from parts of Kane Co., and LaSalle Co. It's also adjacent to LaSalle, Will and DuPage counties. This is just an "FYI" to show the proximity of these counties to each other.

But, back to Hiram Bauder (1812-1860)! Hiram could have fit into this family between Minerva (1810) & William (1813). BUT, I just ran across something of interest that gives Hiram's mother's name as CLARA BAUDER.

According to "The Northeastern Reporter, Vol. 19 - ..All the current decisions of the Supreme Courts of.....Illinois.....Jan 11, March 8, 1889", his mother's name was Clara. In it is a case "Van Olinda et al. v Carpenter" Supreme Court of Illinois, Jan 25, 1889. Can't explain what all the legalese means, or just what the outcome was, but it quotes part of his WILL: "I, Hiram Bauder, of the town of Bristol, county of Kendall, and state of Illinois......I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Mary Bauder, and to my daughters, Harriet Elizabeth, Nancy Catharine, and Melissa, the use of all my property......and I give and bequeath to my adopted boy, William B. Duffet......I bequeath to my mother, CLARA BAUDER, twenty five dollars a year...."

As for the names involved in the case, Hiram's widow Mary Keck Bauder later married John Van Olinda, and their daughter Hattie married John T. Carpenter. Nowhere that I can see does it mention a date of the will, or indication when it was probated, etc., but we do know that Hiram died in Oct. 1860 at the age of 48 years.

I have so far come up empty trying to find anyone named Clara Bauder in either New York, or Illinois in the 1850 or 1860 census. I'll keep searching. Perhaps her name was transcribed into the record incorrectly? Maybe "Clara" is a shortened version of "Clarissa"?

Hopefully someone out there can help me find Clara Bauder - and her husband (assuming she was married)!

Bauder, of East New York, according to the report of the coroner's physician.

Bauder weighed nearly 300 pounds about three months ago, and feared he would die of fatty degeneration of the heart. He began to diet himself and take exercise, but he simply piled on more weight.

He then tried an anti-fat remedy, and it worked as advertised. Bauder's weight decreased some fifty pounds in the last two weeks. He suddenly collapsed yesterday and died in a few hours.

The coroner's physician said that the rapid loss in weight had weakened the man's heart.
James Bauder arrest in NYC May 1900

From The New York Times, pg 16, May 6, 1900:

BAUDER'S PARENTS SHOCKED.

The Boy Had Always Been Well Supplied with Funds.
Special to The New York Times.

BATH, N.Y., May 5 -- James Bauder, who is under arrest in New York City, charged with passing a worthless check, is a son of De Witt C. Bauder of Hammondsport, and is well known here. The Bauders are among the oldest and wealthiest families of the town. De Witt C. Bauder, the father of the young man, is President of the State Bank at Hammodnsport, and is one of the Directors and the Secretary of the Pleasant Valley Wine Company, one of the largest cellars in the world.

The news of their son's arrest was a great shock to his parents, who are unable to account for his action, as they have kept him well supplied with money. He is only sixteen years of age. For the past two years he has been attending Betts Academy, at Stamford, Conn., and his presence in New York at this time was unknown to his parents until they were told of his arrest. They feel the arrest keenly.

James Bauder, while of a forward dispositon, has always borne an excellent reputation in his native town, and the announcement of his arrest caused great surprise. It was learned that he has been drawing small checks upon his mother's account while at school, but that she has always paid them. His mother has been at Stamford the greater part of the Winter, and with her husband recently returned home from a Southern trip. The Bauders, it is thought, will come to their son's aid.

Eliza (Grace) Bauder, wife of Peter -- mother of Hiram?

Did Eliza (Grace) Bauder die in Kendall Co., Illinois in Jan 1866? There is an Eliza Bauder "wife of Peter" buried in Keck Memorial Cem., Bristol Twp., Kendall Co. It appears that she's buried next/near to to Hiram Bauder (b Jan 1812) who married Mary Keck, daughter of Jacob Keck.

And something that I've wondered for years: Is Hiram Bauder the son of Peter and Eliza (Grace)Bauder in addition to Minerva (1810), William (1813), Cyrenus C. (1817), Peter G.(1818), Jerald (1819), James (1821), Ezra (1825), Josiah (1826), Jane (1827), and Allen (1830)?

NY Bauders

I compiled a list of Bauder vital statistic records on file in NY State. Official state records were not kept until the 1880's and only a few locations sent in records from the early 1880's. I have some (most, but not all) death, marriage, and birth vital statistic dates from 1881 - (1901: birth and marriage) (1900: death). About one half of the birth records say simply male or female, the other half has names.
I tried to attach the file, but this system does not seem to accept either pdf's or word documents. Contact me with your e-mail if you would like a copy. Please specify either pdf format or word format - both are four pages in length.
Sample:
marriage cert. Edson B. Bauder on 10-26-1882 in Corfu NYS VR # 6230

death cert. Elizabeth Bauder on 9-28-1886 in Gilbert Mills NYS VR # 35632

birth cert. (male) Bauder on 4/28/1888 in Canastota NYS VR # 15209

Having the Vital Record #'s makes it easy for you to order a copy of the original document from the NYS health dept.
Even for some of the birth records that specify only male or female, the original documents would have mother and father's names.

John and Wiloma Bauder had 11 children. There is extensive history of them on the Butler Geneology website in the book of Biographical Sketches. I have several Bauder's in my tree along with some pictures.

Right now I am looking for Edwin Bauder married to Mabel Elder. They had daughter, Sarah M. who was married to an Unknown Rice. According to the Butler Geneology Death Records, she was born 8-4-1910 at Rose Point, Lawrence County, PA. Her death notice was posted in the Butler Eagle on 4-29-1996.

If you want further info on this family email me suzanne1437@hotmail.com

I would love to have a cd of that album. My family is from the Mohawk Valley Bauders. That I know of I am related to: Abraham, Anson, Catherine, Christopher, Dorothy, Edward, John, Lucinda, Maria, and Michael. Bauders all. There are probably more. I would gladly pay any associated costs, just let me know how much.

Pat Carey
