Hi John

I think we may have met before. Maybe at Joyce and Erics many years ago. I was wondering if its possible for me to send you an email direct rather than posting on the forum. Not sure how to do this as I havent been on many forums yet.

I assume you are researching your family tree?! I asked my mum and dad about various family members several years ago and wrote it down but not sure how accurate it is. Am quite interested in finding out more.

Best Wishes
Vicky

Hello John,

I have just found this thread. (I was trying to find out about my grandmother Sophia Bauer Czarnomska). I am Daphnes daughter, Vicky. She is still alive, but unfortunately has dementia. It might really good to be able to talk to her about your mother Eileen. I have often wondered about her family and friends that she lost contact with. Her cousins Valerie and Anne are still in touch, but thats about it.

Best Wishes
Vicky Lewis

Hi David,

Fultonhistory.com is a wonderful free site to say the least.

I found the following:
Page 4 The Waterville Times, May 6, 1926

Mrs. Charles Bauer

The death of Alice Klossner Bauer, wife of Charles Bauer, occurred Friday night at her home at Conger's Corners in this town, after an illness of about two weeks of pneumonia. She was born in Switzerland, June 6, 1871 and came to this country with her parents at the age of 17 years, locating in Utica. In that city she was united in marriage with Charles Bauer September 14, 1889. Several years ago Mr. Bauer purchased a farm in the town which they had since resided. Mrs. Bauer was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Utica. Besides her husband, she also leaves surviving a daughter, Mrs. Mamie Reichenberg of Marcy, and two sons David and Charles of this village. The funeral was held from her late home Sunday afternoon.

Hello David,

I have a Dorothy "Dora" Bauer born 10 Jan 1847, died 27 April 1921. She maybe buried in Farmington, NY. Her death notice in the newspaper reads Mrs. Henreitta Bower died at 74 years, born Jan 10,1846 in Niesdors, Germany. The children listed are the children of Dora. This makes me wonder if her name is Henreitta Dorothea Bauer or if the newspaper made a mistake. I have never seen her refered to as Henrietta any where else.

There is a Charles Bauer that lived on Jefferson Ave, Fairport, NY, in 1936. I'm trying to connect Dora and Charles, but having no luck.

Is this Charles of interest to you?

Eileen, I would love to be of more help to you on this, but I have no info on this side of my family here in Brazil. Since I have been here for over 36 years now, all info is with some of the relatives in Akron, but I also have had very little contact with them for many years. My Jacob Bauer is buried in Suffield, but I don´t know which cemetary.
I have a cousin in Akron who may know more about this and he has an antique shop on W. Market St. "The Stagecoach Antiques" and his name is Leo Walter Jr. He is one of the older generation ( as I am too now!) which may be able to help a bit with this as his family were also Bauers some time ago! Please let me know if he can help! Tks, Jake

Do you have a Jacob Bauer/Bower/Bowers that married Elizabeth (Ressler)? This is my 2nd great grandfather. On Elizabeth's tombstone it says that she is the wife of Jacob Bauer, but on his tombstone it says he is Jacob Bower. My grandfather is Jacob Bowers. So you can see we have three different spellings of the Bauer name.

Karolina had several sisters who reportedly came to the Emmaus, PA, area. Unfortunately, Karolina was estranged from her family due to her marrying outside of her religion.
John Thomas Bowers 1837 Bavaria - 1907 Ellsworth WI

BOWERS, John Thomas (Civil War) was born May 8, 1837, in Bavaria, German, and came to the United States when eleven years of age with his father's family, two brothers and five sisters. They settled for a short time in Cincinatti, O., then moved to Ripley county, Indiana. He was a son of George Adam and Anna Bowers, both natives of Germany. The father followed farming in Indiana for a number of years and then returned to Ohio, where his wife died. In 1865 he came to Wisconsin and made his home with our subject until his death at the age of seventy-nine years. John T. Bowers received his education in the schools of Indiana and Ohio and worked on his father's farm at Richmond, Ind. When seventeen years of age he went to his sisters at Marion, Ind., and worked on the farm on shares until the breaking out of the Civil War. In 1862 he enlisted in Company H, Eighth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and fought in the battles of Magnolia or Thomson Hill, Champion Hill, Rock River Bridge, Vicksburg, from May 9 to July 3, 1863; Jackson, Miss.; Valparaiso, Tex.; Fisher Hill, Winchester and at Cedar Creek, Virginia, where he received wounds which disabled him for further service. Few knew that his left elbow had been shattered by a rebel bullet and that his left arm was stiff, painful and nearly useless to the end of his days. No boastful word ever fell from his lips, but modest and brave he was of the highest type of our true citizen soldiers who saved the nation. After his discharge he returned to Indiana. In the fall of 1865 he came to Ellsworth, Wis., and purchased a tract of eighty acres of timber land in the township of Ellsworth on section 26. This he cleared and brought under cultivation and here he made his home for twenty-five years engaged in general farming and stock raising to some extent. About the year 1891 he moved to the village of Ellsworth, where he was elected county treasurer of Pierce County and served two terms. A Republican in politics, he held nearly all the township offices; was for many years treasurer of Ellsworth township. After his term of office as county treasurer had expired he engaged in the hardware business at the east end of Ellsworth, which he conducted for a number of years, and later became a partner in the firm of Foss-Armstrong Company, continuing in the business until his death, October 25, 1907. He was a member of the G. A. R. In all his dealings he was the soul of honor. Idolized by his family, beloved by his friends. Respected by all, he passed through the gate whose portal never outward swings. With a clear conception of his duty to God and his fellow men, with a strong moral sense and strength of character to act, he reached that highest ideal of manhood, a good citizen, than which no greater encomium can fall from mortal lips. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church under the auspices of the G. A. R., Res. Herrmann and West officiating. A large concourse of people witnessed the ceremonies, which at the grave were especially impressive. Thoughts of other days came to many as they gazed upon the bowed forms of the old veterans surrounding the grave, and sacred were the tears that rained from their eyes when taps were sounded to note that another comrade had found his last resting place.
Bowers resides at her residence in the village of Ellsworth. She is a daughter of George Adams and Magdaline (Burekel) Sauer, both natives of Germany, who settled in Cincinatti, O., where they lived until their death. There were six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, five of whom are still living. They were all born in Pierce County. George A. married Carrie Falkofske-they have three children; Ruth, Raymond, Archie; Annie died at the age of twenty-one years; Caroline married for her first husband Octave Dumond, and one son, Marvin, was born. She married for her second husband Harley Rose and by this union one child was born-Franklin; Elizabeth is the wife of Fred Wirth and they have two children-Archie and Clarence; Catherine resides at home; she graduated from the Ellsworth High School and taught for some time in the district schools of Pierce county; Franklin, Jr., is the sixth child.

wow just reading through old threads and found this - its now 2009 and I am still no further forward with the query. I saw where Chris Schifler's shop was and the other person was the shop below and confectionery shop. I have been to Woodhorn and got no further forward there either. I am resigning myself to the fact that I will never know the relationship between my great grandfather john bower and his supposed father chris schifler and i will never find out any information where the were in germany apart from Wurtemberg or any other ancestors from germany.

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help me as I have been at a standstill with my family tree for some years now with my maternal great grandparents.
My great grandfather was John Bauer born in Liefersberg Baden in Germany in 1863 and died in England in 1928/ He was married to a Lina Mildenberger and they were married in England and lived here until they both died. [They changed their surname to BOWER] I have information from their lives in England but nothing from Germany, something which is a mystery to me is on their marriage certificate it lists Chris Schiefler as John's father, I dont understand the difference in surnames and I can not find any information on him either. There is no imigration record that i can find so basically I am stuck.

hope someone can help me.
Alison

Sometimes the census takers made mistakes in transcribing. My grandfather was a Bauer. Some of his and his relative's records are found under Bower. Another name you should look under is Baner for Bauer. Some people don't write clearly and sometime information is misunderstood when given or misread when transcribing. Sometimes they put an extra letter in the name or leave one out. It makes research very difficult and time consuming.

I am also trying to find Christian Bauer. I don't know about his brothers or sister. My father, James William Bauer's father was Christian Bauer. He was married to Laura Belle Happell from Olean, New York. The were divorced sometime after 1930 because on the 1930 census she was listed as the head of the household but married status. I went to visit Buffalo with my family in 1957 and my father went to visit him, he roomed with a family. He died somnetime after that. Hope this helps. Let me know if you think we may be related.

Hi, I don't think that is the clue, him being her father, he was married to my Grandmother Laura Belle Happell and she was born in 1886, perhaps she was his sister. Who were her parents? The only thing I found at the Buffalo library was a record for a male birth on 18 Aug 1888 in Fayette. I don't know if that was him. We ran out of time in Buffalo and are in Salamanca today, tomorrow we are going to Olean where my grandmother is buried. Perhaps there is more information there. Also will try to get to the geneology society there, if they have one. Will let you know any info I find. Barb

The only thing that my aunt provided was a receipt for hardware that Christian purchased. It was in 1883 and Christian had an account with J. Brown General Merchandise. We're wondering why Ida kept this with her records and can only assume that Christian was her father since the receipt was before she was born. Other than that - I haven't had any hits.

We don't have a clue to Ida's parentage. We know that she was born in New York and that she had a brother, Fred and William. We know that Fred was married to Caroline and William was married to Mayme (Maime). Christian could very well be an older brother. Not sure.

Asking if any Bauer relatives can look through their records and see if any of their ancestors lived on Jersey Street, Moreland Street or Warring Avenue. If so, please contact me. cmb10306@aol.com.

Thanks!!

Frederick Bauer - Buffalo, NY

Looking for info on Fred Bauer. He married Caroline (maiden name unkown) and they lived on 89 Moreland Street in Buffalo for many years. Records show them there from 1927 through 1941. They had 3 children: Elizabeth, Catherine & Frederick. Fred, Jr. married Kathryn and in 1956 they lived in the house Fred, Jr. grew up in. I know that Elizabeth and Catherine were nurses and I believe both Freds may have been electricians.

Bauer Family - Buffalo New York

Still looking for information on the Bauer family in Buffalo NY. Ida Ann was my great grandmother. I believe she had three brothers - William, Christian & Frederick. Christian is listed on mortgage papers for a house on 101 Hubble Street. I know that William was married to Mayme and Frederick was married to Caroline. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Bauer Family - Buffalo New York

I am meeting up with my aunt on Friday to sort through some paperwork. Hopefully I'll find some more information. Christian may have been Ida's father, not brother. It's not certain. I've learned that there were many Bauers in Buffalo and some lived with cousins/brothers/sisters, etc...so it can become quite confusing. I'll keep you posted.

Mayme Bauer

Looking for information on great great aunt, Mayme Bauer. She was married to William Bauer and in 1930 they lived in Buffalo, NY. I'm trying to figure out her parentage. I thought it was Heigl, but it turned out incorrect. According to the 1930 census, Mayme was born in NY; her father in Germany and her mother in NY. Any info would be great! cmb10306@aol.com
