Just came across your post. I am related to the Baugher's from Hardin County and most from Saline County (where I was born). The Baugher line has been traced back to PA and then to Germany. My brother lives over there and keeps our family's website going www.baugher.us
Hi John! That would probably be close to my family. My side of the family is from Hardin County and also Saline County Illinois which is right across the river from Cape. We all say Boyer also. We are from JG Bager's line.
My name is Debbie

Baugher DNA testing? anyone?

Hey Baugher family! I was wondering if anyone else has done the Y or Family Finder DNA testing through Family Tree DNA or FTDNA.com?
I did the family finder test and my younger brother did the Y-DNA test, MTDNA testing and we are waiting on the family finder test. I thought maybe his family finder test might bring up other relatives that maybe mine didn't.
Anyway, it gave us a list of different family members but the thing about family finder DNA is it doesn't tell you if the relative came from your mom or dad's side.
I'm just trying to link some of us together.
Deb

My 3x great grandmother, Catherine Baugher (born 1812 in Illinois) was married to Thomas Gragg Weger (born 1803 in TN) in Shelby, Illinois on 1 Jan 1829. I believe she was the daughter of John Jacob Baugher who died in 1832 in Shelby, Illinois. Do you know anything about these Baughers? Their daughter, Sarah Jane Weger Ledbetter Leggitt (born in October 1829 in Shelby,IL) said in her own handwriting in a letter to her son, William Harrison Ledbetter, that Thomas Gragg Weger and Catherine Baugher were her parents. Thanks, Shirl Ledbetter Fee

hi, I wonder if you remember me....you helped me out allot with my research into James Asa Burgess.
I was wondering if you watch the show "Who do you think you are?" ...basically a commercial for Ancestry.com.
They had an episode with Tim McGraw which was very interesting detailing why so many Germans settled in the Shenndoah Valley in the colonial years.
It gave me some insight into what the Baughers must have gone through. See if you can catch it on reruns....McGraw's ancestors (forget their original name) might have come over on same boat as Baughers!!!

Hello,
I am just beginning to do an ancestry chart and am finding out a lot about the Baughers. My mother (Lottie Mayrean) was married to Earl Clinton Baugher until his death. I have traced Clinton Baugher's relatives back to Jesse Baugher and Dicey Johns. Clintons's father was Andrew Jefferson Baugher who was married to Lillian Isabella. Andrew Jefferson's father was Thomas Washington Baugher 1861-1937, who was married to Margarett A. Brown 1856-1925. These descendants were of the Rock Creek District, Hardin Ill.

We also pronounce the name Boyer, so must be related. I have never been able to make a connection with the PA Baughers who migrated from Germany, but the name is not common so I feel there is a link somewhere. Can you help?
I am trying to figure out if the parents of John Baugher are George and Nancy Ridenhouse or Ridenour. I have found an Indiana marriage record for George "Bougher" and Nancy Redinhous on April 25, 1812 in Knox County, Indiana. I have seen Nancy referred to with both maiden/last names. Does anyone have this accurately?? Patti Brown, in Des Moines, tree: BrownSullivan

My Grandfather Shelton Abner Baugher was from Illinois originally, and my uncle Bills real name was William Henry Baugher so he must of been named after an ancestor. My grandfather had a brother named Harve and another named Clint, I think they had a sister named Ally because my dad used to talk about Aunt Allie. It is so funny because when all these people were still around I never tried to find out about my ancestry now I am real facinated. My fathers siblings were William, Joe, Elmer, Ray who was killed in world war 2 in France and my two aunts Flora, and Betty who is the only surving of the 6 children. I would love to hear more my cousin in Washington has alot of info but I have not contacted her to get it, she has traced the family all the way into Germany. Looking forward to hearing from you . Carolyn Baugher Lollis
I attended Ambler High School, which became Wissahickon High School in 1962, and played football for Erle Baugher Jr. I graduated in 1963, and heard that shortly thereafter Coach Baugher left the school and became the coach at either Neshaminy HS or Pennsbury HS. Sorry, it's been a long time and I don't recall which one. I remember listening to him after one practice, telling stories about being the quarterback for the NY Giants during the war years. The Ambler Gazette newspaper should have a treasure trove of material about him - so far as I know, he is STILL the most successful football coach the school has ever had. Not sure I can add any more, but you can reach me more conveniently at - ejpurdy @ AOL dot com.

I am granddaugter of james emanuel baugher through his youngest son charles. I believe j.e.b.'s father was thomas baugher born in 1821 in ala or tenn. in 1850 census he was living in poinsett, ark. his second wife, nancy was j.e.b.'s mother. she was much younger than her husband and was married at least twice after thomas died. She lived with j.e.b. and alpha when my father was a child. her name then was cox. Have never been able to make the connection to John Jacob Baugher born in l760 in PA, though it seems like the logical line of descent. Would love to know more!

Re: HARDIN: Mary E. Baugher / Hirum J. Mitchell / Mary Francis Mitchell

Gee, you get to browsing and find these old posts. I better update it. We retrieved the marriage records, etc. Mary Francis Mitchell's birth Father was Hiram "Barney" Mitchell, originally from Johnson Co, IL. Mary Elizabeth Baugher delivered the baby when she was but 11 years old. The baby was placed in the home of Abraham Franklin and Isabell (Reed) Rushing in Mitchellsville. After A.F.'s death, James A. Mitchell (apparently Barney's cousin) became her "father".

So I'm adding on to this post to correct the following:
1) The birth father was not "Hirum J. Mitchell" as the IGI record has it. It was "Hiram B. Mitchell". Simply a case of somebody not reading the handwriting correctly.
2) Mary Elizabeth Baugher and her brother and sister were named in the Civil War pension of their Father (by Becky Frailey), "Thomas W. Baugher". He was definitely "Thomas" throughout the document. He was not William Thomas Baugher.
