BAUGHMAN''s of PA-ca 1800''s

I am descended from John Baughman, b. abt 1808, d. 25 March 1881, and Susannah Powell, b. abt 1810, d. 2 May 1879, both from PA. It appears as adults they lived in the Allegheny County area. They married in 1831?, had 10 children:
Caroline, b. abt 1832, d. 29 July 1912, married to Lewis Matthews
Hetty, b. 1834, dead before 1881, not mentioned in father's will
Catherine, b. abt 1836, married John Bowers
David, b. 6 June 1839, married Mary DeLaney, d. October 1913
Daniel, b. abt 1840, married to ?, both dead before September 1871, two children, William and Susannah
John, b. abt 1842
William, b. abt 1844, married Elizabeth ?
George B., b. 6 December 1845, married (1)Emma Messick, 31 December 1867, (4) children: Albert Chaffin, William, Ada and Anna, d. 12 March 1921, married (2) Eliza Jane (Scott) Davis, 6 December 1878 in PA
Elizabeth (Lizzy), b. 1848, married James Getty, d. 14 November 1917,
Joseph (Joel), b. 1850,

I feel there has to be some connections out there to John Baughman. Any of the Baughmans from Westmoreland have him? Am looking for any connections. My grandmother had said her mothers people (Ada Baughman) were Pennsylvania Dutch, but have found no evidence of that. Need your help to go back farther. Any questions, Email me direct.

The 1850 Baltimore, Maryland Census lists a Charles W. BAUGHMAN, his wife, Eliza, and son, Samuel (age 11). Charles married Eliza in 1837. Can anyone tell me who his people are? I can't seem to link him with any other BAUGHMAN family in the Baltimore area? I believe that later on Samuel becomes a housepainter.

I am looking for the children's names of Hans Ulrich Baughman, born 26 July 1723, died in South Carolina. He married Margaret Geiger after 1739. His parents are Jacob Baughman and Margaretha Schwizigler from Switzerland. This should connect me to the parents of Conrad Baughman who was born 1 Oct. 1801 in S. C. (apparently the grandson of Hans Ulrich). Conrad would be my gggrandfather. Thanks!!

(Tump) G.M.=George Medicus?
Mary Ellen
William Scemore
Zelma (Babe)
W.C.
(Sorry I have no birth or death records)
William Scemore was my ggfather. There may also be a connection with Baughmans in South Carolina.

Rachel Alice Baughman, d/o Ebenezer Baughman and Mary Warner/Werner, was born 1856 Wyandot Co, OH, and died Dec 1945 Hancock Co, OH. She married James M. Fenstermaker (not in Hancock Co, OH, maybe Wyandot Co, OH)and they had three children. James died in 1891. Then she married Harvey Oliver Miller (who had two children) in 1895 and he died in 1896. In 1897 she married John E. Wright. They stayed together until death. What happened to her two stepchildren, Edith Edna Miller and Ernest Clyde Miller. They didn't stay with her since Clyde was in Henry Co., OH with his grandparents in the 1900 census. I cannot find Edith Edna until 1925. Her death shows her as Edith Cremean Mckee, not Edith Miller Mckee. Another brick wall!

Ruth V. Baughman ,born in Hackensack, New Jersey," 1919, the daughter of ,Rhine and Minnie Dunn Van Binsberger.
Ruth V. Baughman
Ruth V. Baughman
went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2008, at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, April 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Rhine and Minnie Dunn Van Binsberger.
She had resided at Independence Court since August of 2005, when she moved from her home of 55 years in Fairborn, Ohio, to be closer to her family. After her move to Erie, she quickly became involved in her new life at Independence Court, starting a chime choir for its residents and playing for chapel services and sing-a-longs. She loved attending the Erie Philharmonic concerts and the Community Concert series and greatly enjoyed the scenery during frequent rides along the peninsula and Presque Isle Bay. Her church home was the First United Methodist Church of Erie. Throughout her life, she was an avid solver of crossword puzzles and loved to tell jokes. She especially loved being near her family. While she lived in Ohio, she was a long-time piano and organ teacher; had retired as the Director of Music of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn (where she remained a member after her move) and had played in and directed several English handbell choirs. Her love of music continued throughout her life. Ruth graduated from Jersey City State Teacher’s College in 1940, and was a third grade teacher for ten years in Oradell, New Jersey, before her marriage and move to Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Baughman, whom she married on June 24, 1950, in Hackensack. Survivors include her daughter, Doris Eckel and husband, Thomas of Franklin; a granddaughter, Melissa Kojancie and her husband, Steve of Erie; a grandson, Tim Eckel and wife, Lauren, of Nampa, Idaho; and the joy of her life, her great-granddaughter-Ava Mae Kojancie, also of Erie.

I am trying to find out any information about my great grandmother. Her name was Almeda Baughman Sandoe. The only information I have is that on the 1910 Ohio census she is listed as being from PA and she was about 57 yrs old. That would make her born somewhere around 1853. I am not sure how much to believe with those dates. She married a man named Jacob Sandoe. They had twin daughters and a son,my grandfather. At this time I do not have easy access to a computer as mine is in the shop for repair, so if you send a message it may take a few days to respond. Thank you for any info you can give me.
In trolling the Net I came across this biography of Andrew Jackson BAUGHMAN, son of Frank, grandson of Henry (both of Baltimore, MD):
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1919ks/b/baughmaj.h...

*Transcribed from A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, written and compiled by William E. Connelley, Secretary of the Kansas State Historical Society, Topeka. [Revised ed.] Chicago: Lewis Publishing Co., 1919, c1918. 5 v.

(Who expected a Kansas connection?!)

I believe the "Frank" mentioned may be Francis Baughman (1778-1850) who is buried in Mt. Hoping the biography may be helpful to someone here.
Jennifer David
geniejen45243@yahoo.com

My GGGG-Grandmother was Lydia Baughman. We believe her mother was an Ackley but we have not been able to establish a link to either of her parents. We believe Lydia was born May 15, 1778, location unknown, and died Dec 12, 1855, location unknown.

She married William Shaw and they had six children we are aware of: Catharine Shaw Anderson, b. Oct 3, 1795; John Shaw, b. Jul 16, 1797; Samuel Shaw, b. Dec 8, 1798; Richard Shaw, b. Jan 20, 1801; Ann Shaw Hoffman, b. Jun 9, 1802 and Lydia Shaw Moyer, b. Apr 25, 1804.

We would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be able to shed some light on this brick wall. Many thanks!

Brad

I have always believed her middle name to be Orwaig; however after reviewing the families in Pennsylvania and Ohio I believe it was likely Orwig. There are many connections between the two families. Elizabeth married Albert J. Boynton 31
Dec 1857 in Ohio. their children were George, Adzina, Cora Belle, Alta ann and Charles. Elizabeth died 18 Apr 1896 in Moline, Rock Island Co, Illinois. Any information as to her parents will be much appreciated.

Baughman ancestors from South Carolina

I've traced my direct line back to William Uriah Balkman AKA Baughman in the 1830 census in South Carolina. We are fairly certain that he changed the spelling of his last name from Baughman to Balkman.

Any of you Baughmans trace ancestors to South Carolina? I know there were a number of Swiss protestants who immigrated to South Carolina in earlier decades, although I have no proof of my ancestors origins. Help from anyone is appreciated.

Another interesting find - I have contact with a large group of African American in Florida and Georgia who are related and all have the surnames of Balkman, Balkmon, Baulkman and Baulkmon. My ancestors left South Carolina and went to Georgia.

Steve Balkman

David Baughman Catherine Gilmore Hardin Co. Ohio

I have a research project sent to me from the IKe/Baughman family. After
Nathan L. Gilmore died Catherine had remarried a David Baughman. In the
research it states that Nathan and Catherine's eldest child" Isaac Gilmore's
death certificate stated that his father Nathan and Nathan's brother James
came to Ohio from Fayette Co. Pa."

I have Isaac Gilmore's death certificate and "Death-Additional Information"
card copies. No where on this does it say that his father Nathan or uncle
James Gilmore came from Fayette Co. Pa. It does say born Dec. 18, 1945 Logan
Co. Oh.-died Mar. 28, 1919 Hardin Co. Ohio. The infromant may be James
Gilmore of Fosteria, Ohio. His father is listed here as Nathan Gilmore.

I would like the researchers of John Gilmores to give me input on the John
Gilmore of Logan Co. Ohio born abt 1790-1800 in the 1830 & 1840 logan County
censuses. This will be much welcomed also as we weed them out.
I have a death certificate for John Wesley Gilmore born July 25, 1849
Fayette Co. Pa. His parents are Jonas Gilmore & Eliza Rush. John died Oct.
13, 1935 widowed in Hardin Co. Ohio. The informant is Mrs Milo Sauter Hardin
Co. Ohio.

If this is correct is Fayette Co. Pa a Pennsylvania Dutch area? If it is are
the other Gilmores in Hardin and Logan from Pa.? Mother says this family was
Pennsylvania Dutch but I am getting information here that they could only
ever be Irish. I welcome your thoughts on this matter.
Henry, Jacob & John Baughman

Several families came to Kentucky in 1782 including Henry Baughman. They were attacked by Indians and several were killed. Henry Baughman was killed. His brothers, Jacob and John Baughman had made a previous trip into Kentucky in 1777 surveying. Those that were with them was Benjamin Logan, Daniel Boone and others. John and Jacob were killed at Boonesborough (Clark County), Kentucky in 1779. Henry, as Jacob's heir had his brother's papers (Jacobs) on his person when he was killed at Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, KY. This is how the mistake was made in Kentucky history that says Jacob Baughman was killed by Indians at Crab Orchard. By this time, Jacob had been dead for almost 3 years. In Fayette County (Lexington), Kentucky a very long drawn-out court case ensued.

Ira Baughman born abt. 1875 - Help Please

I am searching for info on Ira Baughman, born about 1875 and died in Calif on 4-7-1939 and buried in Pontiac IL. His parents were William G. Baughman, m. Louisa Long on 2-22-1872. Wm G. b. 6-3-1852 & d. 11-1-1918. Louisa b. 1-25-1851 & d. 12-11-1932. Both are buried in Pontiac, IL (Livingston County).

Wm G. was the 7th child born to David B. & Catherine (Carrie) Houck Baughman or Bachman. My records indicate David & Catherine are buried in Bart's Church Cemetery (correct name is Mt. Olive United Brethren Church) in Union Twp. near Hanover PA. The Bachman surname was changed to Baughman during the years.

Ira had a sister Edith Jane b. 9-19-1872 & d. 5-6-1949 and m. Wesley Armitage and lived in Livingston County IL. Ira also had a brother Newton Stanley Baughman b. 10-26-1873 & d. 6-9-1959 & m. Annetta (Nettie) Brunskill 12-31-1897. Their married life was mostly in Livingston County IL. This is my grandfather.

We've been told over the years that Ira Baughman was involved in a baseball team in California. We've hit a brick wall on any information about him. Please help us.

Searching for information relating to the marriage of W. F. Baughman and Anna Blair. They were married in Cass Co., TX 23 Dec 1895. Anna Blair is believed to be the daughter of Norman C. Blair and Dora Carlisle. The 1880 Cass Co., TX census record lists N.C. Blair, age 27; wife Dorha, age 18; daughter Amma, age 2; and son Thomas, age 1. It is possible that the Amma listed is really Anna, and this is her marriage record. I have been unable to find the Baughman family in the 1900 census records. I have further information on the Blair and Carlisle families if anyone is interested.

Are July A. ENEY and Eliza MCGIBBON of Baltimore Sisters?

I am trying to prove that July or Julia A. ENEY (born abt 1804)and Eliza MCGIBBON (born abt 1806) are sisters (and daughters of Margaret WELSH and Matthaus BAUGHMAN). I find them both widowed and living in the same Baltimore City household in both the 1860 and 1870 censuses. I don't find either of them in the 1880 census.

Is anyone researching any of these families? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sue Kelly

Baughman immigrants

There are a couple of sites with information on Johann Christian (1720) and descendants (e.g. http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:640265... at Rootsweb World Connect). One of his patrilineal descendants has participated in the Bachman/Baughman y-chromsome project and his results can be seen at http://www.stanford.edu/~philr/Bachman/BachmanResults.html (ID O515). He does not have the same ancestor as the Martin Bachmann at http://www.ecsr.net/~ewbaugh/, although both immigrant lines appear to have Canton Bern roots. One of Martin's descendants was also tested and has a different y-chromsome (ID O194). Both have one other match so far, but not each other. Finding a descendant of Johann Christian's brother Johann Frederick (1724) could be an important step. He has to be a patrilineal descendant (father to son to son, etc.) in order to have Johann Frederick's y-chromosome (no links through femalesm, as the y-chromsome is only passed down to males). Does anyone know of such a descendant who might be interested? I did not find a Johann Frederick of the appropriate age at WorldConnect or in the Family Search ancestral file.
I am searching for any descendants of Howard Franklin Baughman who lived and died in the Hempfield & Penn Township area. According to the SSDI, Howard was born August 21, 1881 and died Aug 1962. His parents were Jesse & Sarah Baughman. He may have married Lena Bennett and had 3 children, Clarence, Ella & Dorothy.

Harry L Everett descentdants with Baughman Bible

I am trying to connect with any family members of Harry L Everett, b 1873. HIs father was John Everett, b. 1833, and Margaret, b. 1843. He had a nephew William C. Benz, b 1895 who was the son of Sarah B. Benz, b. 1873.
At one time, Harry had a Bible that contained Baughman family information. It is a long shot but I am hoping that that Bible or a copy is still in existence. If you have any information regarding this family, please contact me.
