Muskingum County Ohio Frederick Baum family connection with any HAYS families

I am looking for a possible connection between the Frederick BAUM family of Madison, Muskingum, Ohio and any HAYS (perhaps HAUS or HAISE) families of Muskingum County?

My gr-gr-grandfather was William H HAYS. He married Mattie J (Samantha J) GRIGSBY on 17 December 1868 in Zainesville, Muskingum, Ohio. My gr-grandfather William Ora HAYS was born 26 Feb. 1870 in Zaineville.

We've been unable to find any family for William H HAYS, so I just did the paternal Y-Chromosome DNA test and turned up a BAUM connection along with a ton of Scoth-Irish surnames.

I'm wondering if this DNA connection could be tied with the Frederick BAUM family. Does anyone know of any HAYS - BAUM unions?

Best wishes,

Bill...

My grandfather was Seymour J. Baum, my great Grandfather was Alfred J. Baum. Alfred came from Prussia, arriving in the US as a young man. I have located him in Whitehall, NY in 1862. Shortly thereafter, he settled in Binghamton, NY, where he remained until his death. His first wife was Eliza, his second wife Lucy. I believe he had at least 11 children. The children's names that I know are Maurice, Jacob, Sidney, Louis, Henry, Gertrude, Seymour J., Clara, Helen, and Ray. Do these names mean anything to anybody?

Mary Magdalen, the wife of Jacob Nagle of Cambria County

After getting into this family in detail, I finally have found information that has made this entire mystery of Honor Martha make sense.

I have compiled all the information and will share it with anyone who is interested in the Jacob Nagle family. Read this with an open mind. I feel there has been much confusion and misinformation passed on over the years with this family.

To summarize the findings...

I believe the entire confusion goes to a simple misprint in the History of Cambria County by Storey on page 515 that is incorrect when mistakenly printed his wife was Honor Baum. (Jacob's brother however was married to Martha Baum and Jacob also had a sister named Honor)

In looking for ANY other reference to an Honor Baum BEFORE this publication in 1907, you will NOT find reference to an Honor as the wife of Jacob Nagle. All references to Jacob's wife (and there are many) in deeds, wills, census, baptisms and even the SAME Cambria County History on page 555, list Jacob's wife as Mary Magdalen. Her tombstone is Mary M. There was never a second wife. The county history does not break the family into two separate wives, the baptismal records of all of their children list the same woman by referring to her as either Mary Magdalen or Martha back and forth throughout the span of children. (There is not a time when it strictly switches from one to the other which would be more indicative of two wives)

People who could not figure out the mystery apparantely made up the "Honor Martha" to help them make it make sense. They also then said two wives because all the facts show Mary Magdalen so often! Many other family researchers did realize there was only one wife and then decided she changed her name at baptism in 1850 (but that was also Jacob's brother's wife Martha that was baptised and took the name Mary Magdalen (see the Ledoux books).

Another road block had come when John Baum did not list this "Honor Martha" among his children when applying for his pension. He did list all his other children. There was also no room on census records for this "extra" daughter (see 1790 and 1800 John Baum census records) and I couldn't figure why he would have two daughters that both went by "Martha" and then "Mary Magdalene"... mainly, we just had nothing to prove this Honor Martha person really existed.

After studying this for many years and seeing all the information people have put out there, I finally started fresh and trusted nothing but original records. It was interesting to find how the typo from 1907 spread and was passed on over the past hundred years, confusing so many of us along the way.

After checking into the families of all the baptismal sponsors of these Nagle children, a break came from the Decker relatives standing as sponsors for two of the children and the name of Jacob and Mary Magdalen (Martha's) second son, Nicholas.

They led me to a Nicholas Decker in Huntingdon County. Finally, a reference in the History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties by Africa in 1883 that gave a summary of the family of this Nicholas Decker and tells of his daughter who married Jacob Nagle!

According to all information I have found, the only wife of Jacob Nagle was Mary Magdalen Decker, daughter of Nicholas Decker.

I will send the full documentation I have compiled for anyone interested.

Searching for information on my GGGG grandmother, Suanana Baum. She married Christian / Jacob Moneysmith or Maneschmidt or Monesmith. (See why I'm having trouble here?)
They had 5 children: Henry or Heinrich Moneysmith, John Peter Moneysmith, John Jacob Moneysmith, Johannes MOneysmith and Christian Moneysmith.
I imagine that Susanna Baum was born between 1750 (her husband's year of birth) and 1765 (18 years before the birth of her first child, Henry / Heinrich).
Ohio figures into the family: Kalida in Putnam county or Crawford county are possibilities.
If anyone has any information at all on this Baum family, please contact me at <jmfrease@comcast.net>.

Beryl Brice Baum of Carroll Co Indiana killed in South Pacific

Beryl Brice Baum of Carroll County Indiana was killed November 13, 1942 in the South Pacific in World War II. He is officially listed as killed in action and missing or buried at sea. His name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines

Matthias Baum b 1700 living Berks Co PA

Recently, after reviewing Ancestry's World Trees, I've become confused by two Baums who may be connected to my wife's Baum Line. They are Johann Theobold Baum who m. Anna Margaretha Blimbott and a Johannes Baum who m. Maria Magdalena Riffel from Berks Co. PA. The Ancestry World Tree submitters use both of these as the earliest ancestor in their Baum lines.

One of these may be the father of my wife's Matthias Baum (c1700-) who d. in Berks Co., PA. My wife's line descends from this Matthias down to Frederick Baum (1728-1831) & Barbara Uhlman, down to John Baum (1759-1833) & Catherine Fitz Randolph, down to James Baum (1799-) & Rebecca Miller.

I'm interested in connecting this Matthias Baum to one of the two Johann's or any other Baum that someone may know.

Bob Matkins
Book-Johann Theobald Baum descendants

I published a family history book 3 years ago. I have concentrated the last 3 years research on Johann Theobald Baum and the earlier generations of Baums. Theobald immigrated from Oppau, Germany about 1722. He was born in Birkenau, Hesse, Germany in 1693. He died in Reading, Pa. in 1762. His father was also named Johann Theobald Baum, born in 1653, in Hoerdt, Alsace, France. His father was Georg Baum, born in Hoerdt in 1632. His father was Enstett Baum, born in Singrist, Alsace, in about 1609. My great grandfathers since Theobald were, Jonas Peter Baum, Daniel Baum, Sr., David Baum, George Washington Baum, Harry Green Baum, and George Eversole Baum. My intent is to publish another edition of my book, now over 500 pages in length. I am looking for further contributions and I willing share anything that I have. tsmith5586@houston.rr.com.

I am looking for descendants of G(J)ershon Baum and Esther Finkelstein. They came from Lomze, Russia to New York City in about 1888 and I believe had five children whose names may have been anglicized. I believe there was, Herman Baum, Betty Baum Meyrowitz Rowe, Shulamith Baum Schwartz and someone known as Jack who may have been Jacob. My husband's grandfather was their brother Benjamin, who was a pharmacist. If you know anything about this line, please let me know. Thanks, Janet

Hello, I am looking for my 1/2 sister. Her name is Karen Lynn (?). My mother was killed in a car accident when I was a very young child. My mother had a baby girl before she was killed. I just found out about her. I was raised by my aunts and just reciently found out that I had a sister. I would really love to find her. Her father's name might have been Donald Brenner. I was told he was a truck driver and that is who she was with at the time she was killed. If you can help email me at paulmyersltd@earthlink.net Thank You, Phyllis

I have just started to research my family tree and am looking for any information regarding Francis William Baum who would be my grandfather. He was born circa 1918. He married my grandmother (Kathleen Miriam Cole) we think early 1940's? They lived in London. He was a schoolteacher however joined the army and served during WW2. He and Kathleen separated in approx. 1949 and divorced after that. However as there was no further contact since then I am unaware of where he subsequently lived or if he is still alive. Any information would be gratefully received.

She married John William MAGERS on December 19, 1882 in Cherokee County, Kansas. They had at least 4 children- Joseph, Clarence, Effie, and Stewart.

In 1900 Joseph is living with this family in Pleasant View Township, Cherokee County, Kansas.

If anyone has any additional information, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank You
Jen Magers

John E. DeBaum in WA 1898

There isn't a DeBaum message board, so I'm posting it under Baum.

The Cheney Free Press, Cheney, Washington, October 14, 1898.
John E. DeBaum made a visit to his old friends in Cheney Tuesday last. The DeBaum family, as the older residents will remember, lived here until a few years ago. They have since scattered quite a good deal. Miss May DeBaum has died. Belle has married and is living in Walla Walla. John has engaged in the butcher business in Lakeside, Wash., G. L. DeBaum is at Juliaetta, Idaho, Sadie is now Mrs. Bever and lives at Leland, Idaho, and Gracie lives with her.

I'm not related to this family.

My line of Baums came from Friesenheim. George Baum was born on January 1, 1833 and came to America about 1851. He married another German named Markretta Kehl and they eventually settled in Menard county, Illinois. Any information on Baum families of Friesenheim and Baden-Wurttemberg would be greatly appreciated.
