Henry Milton Baum

I'm looking for any and all information on Henry Milton Baum b) 1835, possibly in Dauphine, Pa. Father ? Baum, Mother ? Lehman. He appears to be living with a Jacob Lehman in the 1850 census. Whether he was orphaned or apprenticed I do not know. By 1858 Henry M. Baum is in Clinton County, Indiana. He had an impressive record in the civil War and owned a large farm just outside of Frankfort, Indiana.
I would love to know more about his early childhood.

Thanks -

Phydda

This connects with your Marion.

There is a who-o-o-le lot more that would follow, containing hundreds of names but they start to include living people. So this is the short version. And, of course, Abraham's father was Philip Baum(1764), and Abe was the brother of Rev John Philip Baum(1797-1854 the grandfather of L.Frank Baum). Be sure you don't mix up John Philip Baum(1797) with Abe's son John Wesley Baum(1834)

If you would like the whole GEDCOM it can be sent to you by email.

Scott Hart - enhcrisis @yahoo.com
--------------

Descendants of Abraham Baum

1Abraham Baum	1803 -
..+Sarah Jones	1809 -
....2 William Damon Baum	1830 - 1850
....2 Amanda J.
Your Dwight(24June1886-13dec1939) was married to Katerine Crouse on 3Jan1912. I have the ancestors but not the descendents of Dwight Baum and would interested in that info.

As you may know, your Philip F Baum(b15may1813) was the son of Philip Baum(12sept1764-31May1848) and Catherine Barth(1772-1846). That Philip(1764) was the son of Philippus baum who we have since determined was born in 1718 (he was listed as 30 when he came to the states aboard the ship Hampshire in 1748).
I have a JPG of a bible page with Fayette's name entered for his date of birth "Monday September 10, 1855" and below "married Elma Akerman 3 January 1877.
I'd be glad to send it to you.

Since I posted the article on the NYGENWEB there has been a lot of research done, filling in the other children of Philip Baum (1764), and includes some detail about one of his brothers. These can be sent to you by email in the form of a GECOM file that can be opened in family tree maker or other Genealogy programs.

....enhcrisis@yahoo.com is my contact...
-Scott Hart-

Your Benjamin Franklin Baum was born in 1837, and these three Marions all after him. (Marion Estelle (my G-mother) was born 1901).
Your Isaac(b1808) wed Mary Doxstader Van Alstine and had four children: your BF Baum, Nellie, Elsie, Johanna(not to be confused with BenFanklin's daughter = your GG grandmother).
I also have a Marion baum(9Aug1871) who wed Oscar Hoyt. She was the daughter of John Wesley Baum(1834-28feb1915)and Sarah Ann Seeber(1837-1909). This John is the son of Abraham Baum(b1803)and Sarah Jones(b1809)[not John Wesley Baum who the grandfather of L Frank Baum).

I'm a little late to replying. Did this get sorted out about the right Marion?

Scott Hart

So your Aunt Rosine Agnes Brubeck was the daughter of Jacob Brubeck and Sarah Gleason, and the first of three wives of Frank Joslyn Baum (Helen Louise Snow(2),Margaret Elizabeth Lignon(3).

[Marie was not mentioned in the genealogies that I have received, so I have nothing on her - of course you would - only on her other family.]

And their children were Joslyn Stanton (13July1908,had 2 children:Roger and Jocelyn), Frank Alden(9Jan1914), Patricia Anne (7Nov1921), and Thomas Edward(18May1924).
Joslyn Stanton married Elizabeth Pollack 9Feb 1934 in LA, Calif.; Frank Alden married Halliejean Lincoln 22May1937 at Little Church of the flowers, Forest Lawn (children?)

My information stops there with descendants, but of course goes back to into ancenstors to Lyman Frank, then Benjamin Ward Baum(1821-1887)and Cynthia Ann Stanton(1820-1905); then John Philip(1797-1854) and Magdalena Elwood(1799-1854; then Philip Baum(1764-1848) and Catherine Barth(1772-1846; then Phillipus Baum(b1718) and Catherina.

I'll try to check the queries more regularly.
Scott Hart
Dear Scott, I have been having problems with my heart and it causes me to be very tired . I just can't seem to find the strength to work on this tree right now. My email is eikenbaum@hotmail.com if you will write to me and send your email address, I'll send you an invitation to my tree.
Mine is not limited to Baums though, I have some 190,000 names in this one and it's one of my smaller trees.
I can tell you though that Nancy may have had a half brother named Peter, but he would have been from the marriage to Van Slake. Nancy's mother was a Bellinger.
I sent you everything that I had on Nelson about seven years ago or longer then I lost track of you. I still have the family picture that you sent to me at Christmas time. I wish you the best...you were the key that opened the Baum door in the stone wall that Nelson had become...I found your story about the Baum family in the New York GenWeb site...thank you.

Re: Baum family of the Mohawk Valley, NY

As I went through my file yesterday I found that I had two different dates for his father Jacob Philip Baum and claified the date for him (b1794-16jan1846 died in Paines Hallow). The information that I have about Nelson is from others, so if you have information about him you are the source.
I'm not sure who that other Baum researcher was, but the original group was all very open to discussion about conflicting dates and reserved judgment. Goodness knows handwritten records, bibles, and people's memory can all be slipery. And in the end, it only matters to us, since they were our relatives. Nothing explodes if we have the wrong date (ala rocket science).
So my dates for him have no birth date and an approx date of death of abt 1845, with his wife Elizabeth (1823-21June1842).

I have no dates for Nancy Anna House. I am making the assumption that sheh was the sister of George Peter House(abt1790-bef 1847) who married Catherine Baum (bef1791-1875) and the sister of Catherine House(b1790-?) who married Henry Philip Baum(1791-1857).

I received a message from a living relative of George Peter House and have his descendants.

So I would love to hear what you have about the myserious (to me) Nelson Baum.

Scott Hart
enhcrisis@yahoo.com

Thanks for your reply Scott, TOGunslinger is me and he is ...we is...are the same person as Lauren R Baum...so you guessed who I am.
I have been trying to find the discrepancy in the dates of Jacob P Baum's birth and his eldest son Nelson. I have not had much luck, one researcher told me that she had proof of Jacobs earlier birth through some court documents concerning Chauncy's inheritance, but she got mad at me and wouldn't share, so once more my luck holds.
I hated to suggest that the Baum group had an erroneous date for Jacobs birth but I have his wife Nancy House living with Nelson just before her death and her d.o.b. was quite awhile before Jacob's and Nelson's was much too close to his father. So...I am hoping that you have some good news for me. Your distant cousin in California..Lauren Baum

Ok. So my response time on these postings is a little slow!
We may have had contact about Nelson Baum but I'm not certain. My work on the genealogy goes through dry spells and I have time at the moment.

So Nelson(b?-d aft 1845): was one of seven children of Jacob Philip Baum (1794-16jan1836in Paines Hallow)and Nancy Anna House who had 9 children.
This Nelson Married Elizabeth _?_(1823--21june1842) and I have no further information.

The Baum research group didn't contact you for the same reason I didn't: we have stopped working on the genealogy since the parts of our family have been pretty well filled out, and email adddresses have been changed. However, this is a section of my great aunts/uncles to my grandmother Baum and would be interested in finding out what you know.

I will be alerted in an active email address now, so will respond soonert than once every year or two!!
Scott Hart

Since this was posted in 1999, I have been worked with a group of people now known as the Baum Research group. The Baum family tree has grown to more than 4000 names all with carefully researched dates and connections. The original genealogy done in 1958 by L. Frank Baum's son has been better organized, errors corrected and many individuals added. A GEDCOM now exists of this work.

I'm researching information on John P Lein [aka Leins, Lyon, Lyons](1853-1906), buried in Oak Cliff cemetery, Derby, CT, USA. He was married to Serena Baum (1856-1919), also buried in Oak Cliff. They lived in New York City at some point, and he may have been the mayor of a city in CT or NY. They may have also owned a hotel and shoe factory. Other Lein names from the same CT cemetery are: William J (1874-1932), William (1855-1873), Morton (1888-1926), A. William (1820-1894), A. Elizabeth (1830-1900) and Josephine F. (1862-1926). Serena is my great-aunt, and my grandfather remembered her very well, so I'd like to know more about her family. Thank you, and even if you can't help me, I hope the information I have listed will help you!

My Baum line came from Obbach, Bavaria, Germany in 1839. We were in touch with cousins in Obbach who gave us church information. They came into New York in 1839, then moved to Lancaster County, PA. and in 1858 moved to Ft. Jefferson, Darke County, Ohio. You may email me at Sherrywray@aol.com
There is a Frederick W. Baum buried in the Mount Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg, Crawford County, Ks. His wife Nettie is there as well as a brother Percy Baum. I believe this is the Frederick W. Baum of our line, but it isn't proven yet. They lived around Parsons, Kansas which ties into some of the old obituaries.

I am a Baum and just need to ask a question; did Frederick William's line come from New York or Pennsylvania?
Please let me know. If his line came from New York then his family came from the Alsace region of France and Germany rather than Bavaria, Friedrich Wilhelm is a family name and is the reason for the question. I do not mean that he could not have had relatives in Bavaria only that I have traced my Baum line to Muhlbach, in the Alsace region and that this line of Baums settled in New York State and had no connection so far from Penn. Just trying to make connections, Thank You; Lauren Baum

My great great grandmother, Sarah S. Baum, married Bethuel Harris. She was born about 1850. She is buried in a cemetery close to Warsaw, IN. I have just now started trying to trace her family ancestry. There was a local doctor in Warsaw (Kosciusko County), Indiana, who was named John Baum, in the early 1940's. I don't know if she was related to him. I do know that anyone looking at the Baum family can probably find a lot of information in the Kosciusko County Historical Society library in Warsaw, IN. I will certainly be checking this out my next visit. I found Sarah's tombstone in Findagrave.com.
As far as I can tell she had 7 other brothers and sisters, and yes she had a brother Jacob born in 1858,her father was Johnann born in 1811 and I have him dying in 1858, he was married to Juliana Gerlach bn 1822 died in 1912. I know that the Baum family and Gerlach family came over at the same time that's why there's some confusion on who married who, it seems that they all were involved with each other's family.
