Baumann, Gregor Baden, Germany

I'm trying to find a connection in Germany for my GGGgrandfather, Gregor Bauman, born in 1801. Not sure if he was born in the BAden area. His son, my GGgrandfather, Franz Silas Baumann, was born in Frieberg, Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany Jan. 29, 1831. Franz immigrated to U.S. (Ohio) in 1853. Gregor and his wife Waldburga (Lang) and two other sons, Anselm and John came to the U.S. in 1854 and settled in Ohio.

Hope to make a connection out there!

Shelly Bauman-Johnson
We are looking for information about Adolph Baumann and /or his wife, Josepha Theresia Bolliger (Bollinger?), who resided in Saas-Fee, Visp, canton of Wallis (Valis), Switzerland in 1903. We believe Adolph's father's name was Theodore Baumann, and his mother's name was Angalika. (We do not know her maiden name.)

Switzerland to St. Louis, MO Baumann history

Am looking for info about my husband's family. The patriarch of the family here was Adolph Baumann (b. 1877, d. 1973) (married to Theresa Bollinger) who emigrated to the US through Canada in the late 1800's from Sousfey (sp?) Switzerland. Children of Adolph and Theresa included Erwin, Harry, Walter- all born in the St. Louis, Mo area.
We suspect a name change occurred but are unsure. We have a marriage certificate with a name that is hard to read...it may be Lyman(n)? ...but it is not Baumann. So we do not know whether the name was written incorrectly -and no one cared- or whether the name was changed on purpose? Or whether Lyman(n) is actually the family name! We have a mystery we would like to try to solve.
Any help out there?

Baumann from Zurich

I've asked before, but I'll try again! Does ANYONE have ANY information on a Caspar Baumann (1838) who came from Zurich around mid 1800's? He married Sophia (unknown last)in Pittsburgh PA in 1866. They owned the Baumann Stove, Tin & Hardware store at 2805 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh PA. Their children: William; John; Jacob; Caspar; Gustave. My grandfather, Jacob C. Baumann (JC) was a wood shop teacher in Pittsburgh I'm told. My father, James J. Baumann graduated from HS in Pittsburgh then went into the Marines afterwhich he worked for the railroad in Pittsburgh...then moved to CA. All my relatives that would know anything have passed away and I've hit a brick wall and need some help!! Thanks.

BAUMANN Tavern Keeper in Jagershof in Mid 1800's

I am wondering if there are any historical documents or histories written on businesses and owners in the town of Jagershof, Bavaria located near Furth im Wald in the District of Cham near the Bohemian border. I am especially interested in a tavern and dance hall owned by JOHN BAUMANN and his wife ANNA BLATES BAUMANN sometime in the mid 1800's; perhaps the 1850's.

One of John and Anna's children, ANTON BAUMANN married BARBARA SCHMATZ, daughter of JOSEPH and ESTHER SCHMATZ November 25, 1877 in Furth im Wald. JOSEPH SCHMATZ was a wagonmaker in the village of SHENKCHIEN, BAVARIA.

ANTON AND BARBARA BAUMANN had several children, FRANCES BAUMANN, LOUIS BAUMANN, VERONICA BAUMANN, KONRAD BAUMANN, JOHN BAUMANN, AND ANNE BAUMANN before they immigrated to America. Anton immigrated in 1886 and Barbara and the children immigrated a year later. They lived in SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, MANITOWOC COUNTY, and DOOR COUNTY, WISCONSIN

I have a large picture of a family gathering with several generations represented taken outdoors in Bavaria before ANTON and Barbara immigrated. It looks like a anniversary picture as the elderly couple are surronded by their family.
I don't know if the family is BAUMANN or Schmatz.

I would love to hear from anyone with information or suggestions on identifying the family.

Also posted on the bavaria Message Board

Karen
Marie Baumann Franke, b.1868, dau of Edward/Carolina Baumann of Dane Co., WI

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Ernst Franke and Marie Baumann”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Milwaukee, WI in about 1898-1900, and each of them looks to be in their 30s. Public Member Tree in Ancestry shows that they were married 18 Mar 1899, so this might have even been a wedding photo, although there is no formal gown.

In the 1900-1930 censuses for Oak Creek (Milwaukee Co.) WI, I found Ernst F. Franke and wife Marie M. Public Member Tree shows that Ernst was born 31 Jul 1862 Milwaukee and died Oak Creek, WI. Marie was born Jan 1868. In the 1880 census for Madison (Dane Co.) WI, I found Marie M. Baumann with her parents Edward L. and Carolina.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ernst F. or Marie M. (Baumann) Franke

Adelheid Baumann

I'm hoping to find ancestors of my great great grandmother, Adelheid Baumann Schildhauer. She was born near Bremen, Germany on October 26, 1866. She is supposed to have a twin sister, however, I'm not sure what the twin's name is. Their mother is to have died when Adelheid and her twin were about three years old (1869 ?) and then the siblings were scattered amonst reletives. There was also to be an older sister as well. Adelheid immigrated to America when she was sixteen years old and was the only member of her immediate family to do so. On December 8, 1885, Adelheid married my great great grandfather, John Frederick Schildhauer, perhaps in Iowa. Then in about 1902, they moved their large family to western Nebraska, where they all lived until their deaths. Adelheid died on October 9, 1941 in Hay Springs, Nebraska. I would love to hear from anyone who may have a link to Adelheid. I am especially interested in infromation on her twin sister and her mother and father. Thank you!

Distant relatives?

Hello all

Well, to make a long story short, I've just recently become more interested in learning more about my family history. I know so much about my mother's side, but I know very little about my father's - the Baumann's - side. Both of my dad's parents passed away recently and records of my dad's parents and siblings are very hard to come by, as my dad's family grew up very poor and what they did have was all destroyed in a house fire back in the 1960's. So, I guess where to start, I don't really know. My father's family is from all over North Dakota and Minnesota, primarily the Fargo, ND and Breckenridge, MN areas. His parents names were Harold Baumann and Leila Baumann (her maiden name is Kitzmann). That's all I really know. Any Baumanns living in that area I'd be curious to meet and see if there was any relation so I may be able to learn a little more about the other side of my family. Thanks so much everyone!

Louisa Kuntz and had a child Antoinette Josephine Baumann (b1869--she lied about her name most of her life and said it was Elizabeth. People called her Bessie.)
Antoinette married Prudhomme (Predon) Gerstner in New Orleans 3/19/1891.
I believe that Joseph Baumann came over to America possibly through New York with a previous wife who died either on the trip over or shortly after arrival in America. They may have had a child who died too. He lived out his days in New Orleans with his new family.
Any matches, let me know! :)

Bowman/Baumann

I can only track the family in census records from 1880 on in Philadelphia, PA. It states that Philip BOWMAN and his wife Elizabeth were born in Prussia. But I can find no census entries in 1870 or before. Later census has a son George being be born in Philadelphia 1865.

Family folklore has Philip as the victim of blackmail for (1) being a Civil War deserter or (2) a deserter from the German army. He changed the name from Bauman(n) or Bohn. But I cannot find any census on Bauman(n) or Bohn in the Philadelphia or surrounding states.

Both my great-great grandfather, Philip BOWMAN, and great-grandfather, George Bowman, were produce hucksters in the Philadelphia, PA area. My grandfather, Harry Bowman, started out as a coal teamster then went on to ice using two draft horses, wagon, and my dad and uncle as cheap labor.

Sometime around 1940 my grandfather stopped using the horses and started using a truck.

I welcome any advise or comments.
