John Baumer (born Johann Hermann Baumer?) of Legden & OHIO

Thanks to Jan Kollenhof I know now that the William Baumer (1840) and Elizabeth BENNING (1844) family emigrated from Legden, Ahaus county, Westfalen. They went to Illinois for a year or two, then to Stearns County, MN, and finally settling in the Richland County, N.D. and Wilkin Co., MN areas.
Now I would like information William's older brother, John (born Johann Hermann) BAUMER, b 1825, who emigrated in 1856 and had the destination of Cincinnati, OH. There must be many relatives descending from him too. Can anyone help find this unknown part of the Baumer family tree? Thanks for any responses.

I see only brief notes by Donna and Leslie BAUMER back in 2002 re Barney Baumer family.
I am interested in his father Wilhelm (William) BAUMER's origins (native town-- in Hannover?) and his wife's origins (Elizabeth BENNET / BUENNING-- said to be from near Koblenz-- but I question that) and any more complete family history. I have been studying (with obits, census, Rootsweb, etc.) the whole family and would like to find out as much as possible.
My connection is Joseph BAUMER, b 1867, Chicago(?), ILL, who later married Josephine (Sophie) SCHWIEP / SWEEP in 1890 in Breckenridge, MN. He died in Fargo 1951. They had 10 children, but I have incomplete info on Joseph b ca 1892, Henry, b Oct 1898, and Walter, b ca 1910. The rest of the family I have fairly good info, but more is always welcome.

BAUMER family (from Hannover province?)

I have posted info on the William Baumer family (1840-1918), especially son Joseph (1867-1951).
Now I have found what seem to be William's father and a brother-- Henry Baumer (1801-1888) and Elizabeth (1797-1889). The latter are both buried at New Munich (Stearns) MN, Catholic cemetery. Their son was Bernard Heinrich Baumer (1829-1877), also buried there. Does anyone know if they are related to the Beumer / Baumer family around St. Augusta, Stearns, MN? Then my family could be related to the Henry b 1838 and Friedrich b ca 1842 too. Thanks for any response. In William's obituary mention is made of birth in "Tadden", Germany, but I have not found such a place (closest is Tadeln). Thanks for comments on this too.

Obit: John Baumer, d. June 1895, Pennsylvania

NOTE: I came across this obit while hunting for another, in my role as the RootsWeb obituary volunteer for the Allentown Morning Call newspaper. I am NOT researching this family.

This obituary was printed in:
The Allentown Morning Call
Allentown, Pennsylvania
Monday, June 3 1895
Page 1

John Baumer, of No. 531 North Fifth street, died yesterday morning on the commons, near the thread mill, of paralysis of the heart. He had been complaining for osme time of pain at the heart, but was working continually until Saturday evening, and appeared no worse than any other day, having worked longer than usual on that day. After returning from work he remarked that they would have ice cream the next day. Accordingly, yesterday morning, between 6 and 7 o’clock, he left home for J. F. Butz’s place, on Jordan street, to get the ice. After having obtained it he started to return home, when he suddenly fell over and death had claimed him. The engineer for Arbogast & Bastian, the meat dealers, was the first man to hasten to his side. He immediately summoned M. H. Bickert, of the Gordon street station. They soon saw that the man was dead and summoned Coroner Yost, who held an inquest. The Coroner’s jury consisted of the following: Dr. C. D. Schaeffer, foreman; C. Erwin, John A. Schoudt, Charles Wenner, C. E. Bach and Harry Deller. They rendered a verdict of death due to paralysis of the heart. Mr. Baumer was a carpenter by trade and at the time of his death he was in the employ of Contractor Albright. He was a sober and industrious workman. He was a member of I.O.O.F., Lodge No. 85, Macungie. He leaves a wife, Catherine, and seven children, Mary, Charles, Jane, Jacob, Edwin, Horace and Clarence, a baby, 7 months old and his aged mother. The funeral will take place on Thursday forenoon at 9 o’clock. Interment in Western Salisbury cemetery, Rev. M. O. Rath officiating.

BAUMERS IN CINCINNATI

My g-grandmother was Caroline BAUMER who was born in Cincinnati in 1882. She married John E. WEHMEYER in June 1901. Caroline was the daughter of Frank (Franz) BAUMER and his second wife, Margaret STEPHEN (sp?). Frank was born in Hanover in 1848 to Franz BAUMER and Elizabeth STOPKER. They came to the US about 1864. Frank married first Maria VETTER (FETTER, BETTER). Maria was born in Germany about 1846. They married in Cincinnati about 1871. They had two children, Mary born about 1873 and Joseph who was born in January 1876 and died in February 1876. Maria died 11 FEB 1876 and was buried from St. Francis' church.
I do not have the marriage date for Frank and Margaret STEPHEN, nor do I know anything about her family. They had one child, Caroline in 1882. Their marriage would have taken place between February 1876 and 1882. I would love to find out more about the STEPHENS.
