BAUMERT, Michael from Rheinhein, Baden 1852 to Nauvoo, IL

Baumerts are not related to me, but my gggrandmother, Barbara GUTMANN RAHN, may have emigrated with them as they appeared in the same small town in Illinois about the same time. I have found M. Baumert's citizenship papers and the ship he came from La Havre to New Orleans on. On this ship is a Barbara Baumert listed separately from the family of 6. Maybe Barbara was working as a nanny as listed with her are three small boys and no husband. I can see how she could have been listed with the Baumert name if the children were named Baumert. Does anyone on this list know about Mike Baumert's family? He apppears in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census for Nauvoo, Hancock, IL. This Baumert was a brick mason in 1860 census and later owned the local newspaper. Any help with this mystery would be appreciated. Thanks.

My great grandmother was Pauline Baumert and she came to US with her husband Edward Steinbrick and 3 children in 1890 from Germany. She died in 1921 and raised my grandfather George Schobert and his sisblings. Pauline had 3 brothers: C. H. (or Henry or Heinrich Conrad) of Akron, Ohio, Fred Baumert, who in 1921 was living in Strasund, Germany and brother Herman, who was living in Dittersbach, Germany. Could your grandmother Pauline Baumert be the niece of my grandmother? Could Herman Baumert be the brother of my great grandmother? skwerner1@verizon.net

I'm current researching my German-born Grandfather, August Baumert along with his mother and father.

August Baumert was born on August 2, 1906 in Zusenhofen (now Oberkirch), Baden, Germany.

August Baumert was the son of Anna Braun and Karl Baumert. Karl Baumert was Anna Braun's second husband; her first husband was Karl Baumert's brother who died unexpectedly.

Through Anna's 1st marriage, she had three children: Anna Baumert, Francis Baumert, and Joseph Baumert (August's half-sisters/brothers).

Through Anna's 2nd marriage (to Karl Baumert) she had four children: August Baumert, William Baumert, Carl Baumert, and Herman Baumert. With the exception of August Baumert, I have no information on birth dates/locations but assume these births occured between 1885 and 1920.

August emmigrated to the United States in the mid-1920's and died in 1999 in Wheatridge, Colorado (outside Denver).

Any information on the above people would be appreciated!

Regards,

--Ron Baumert
(rbaumert@yahoo.com)

Baumert Information

Mickie: I just read your message dated 10/14/00. I am Geraldine (Stewart)Pepper. My Grandmother Clara Anna Baumert Sheets(z) was a sister to Oscar Baumert, father of Floyd. We have quite a bit of information on the Baumerts. My sister, Marilyn Dill and her son worked on the genealogy in the 70's. Oscar's father was George William Baumert and his wife was Katherine Christine Mohme. I am presently trying to find info. on the parentage of Katherine. I have a little info. on brothers and sisters, but as yet don't know who her father was. I found reference to a book called "Germans of Iowa" on the net. There is supposed to be info. on the Mohme's in it. I guess I need to visit the library. It tells that they located around Sigourney, Iowa. We were recently in Sigourney and visited the courthouse, but soon discovered that it would take much more time than we had right then to track down any information. I remember Grandma Katherine, she died when I was 4 and I remember her being at my grandmother's home, and also remember her death and funeral(my first)According to our information, Grandfather George William's father was named John, and his mother Margaret(but Margaret what we don't know) They were hardy German pioneers who emigrated to Iowa, but as of this time, we don't know when. I do hope this reaches you. We remember Floyd and Pearl's family well, and have been friends of Harry and Frances from way back and still consider them friends though we moved away and spent 32 yr. in Arizona. We are now residing in Missouri. Rosemary(See) Baumert(wife of Howard, dec'd) was a schoolday friend of mine. Saw her 2 wk ago at our 55thyr. class reunion in Keota, Iowa. Do hope this reaches you and hope to hear from you.

I have read previous messages regarding "Baumert" searches. I find them all quite facinating since I am also a "Baumert". I am the daughter of Larry who is son to Floyd (died in 1964) and Pearl Baumert (died in 1990) of Keota, Iowa.. if anyone is interested in knowing more about the "Baumert" family in Iowa, or has an idea about how we all are related :) - please feel free to respond.
