Emanuel Augustus Bumgardner

I am looking for information on my g-great grandfather, his name was Emanuel Augustus Bumgardner, born around 1847 in North Carolina. He married Elizabeth J Stewart on October 9, 1870 in Forsyth County, North Carolina and they had 9 children that I know of,Daniel, Lewis, Nancy, John, Henry, Laura, Mary Jane, Hessie, and William. The last I can find of them is in Surry County, North Carolina in 1900. I find their children in 1910 but no sign of them.

His parents were John Edward and Elizabeth "Betsy" Grubb and they were married March 18, 1846 in Stokes County, North Carolina.

I can't find any parents for John Edward, nor can I find when or where either Emanuel or Elizabeth died.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cat

Michael Baumgardner (1804-1893)

Druscilla Baumgartner is my great-grandmother. Her siblings and parents are:
**************************************************
Michael Baumgartner 1804 - 1893 m. Barbara Long 1814 - 1861
Children
Mary Susan Baumgartner (lived 3 wks)
Druscilla Baumgartner 1835 - 1861 m. William H Bishoff 1833 - 1904
Daniel M Baumgardner 1838 - 1910 m. Mary M Ash 1836 -
Delilah Baumgartner 1840 - 1911 m. William Harrison Tuttle 1836 - 1911
Nathan L Baumgardner 1842 - 1910 m. Mary Ellen Hager 1847 -
Samuel Baumgartner 1844 - 1907 m. Victoria Smith 1854 - 1929
Lewis Einsel Baumgardner 1847 - 1914 m. Rebecca Milliron 1856 - 1930
Franklin Baumgartner 1849 - m. Bertha Cover 1866 - 1900
Aaron Baumgardner 1851 - 1910 m. Ruth R 1846 - 1903
*2nd Wife of Aaron Baumgardner: Hulda G 1871 -

*2nd Wife of Michael Baumgartner: Barbara Teets 1824 - 1891
Lucinda Baumgartner 1863 - m. Lieb
**************************************************
I have multiple areas of confusion about Michael's ancestors.

1. Michael's father is John. I think John was born in 1760 and had children (besides Michael) of Jacob, Joseph, Daniel, John & Adam. Maybe Barbara & Samuel also - I'm not sure of Barbara & Samuel. Anyone know? Anyone have all of Michael's siblings mapped out?
I don't know if Michael's father John was born in Germany or Dauphin County PA.
I don't know if Michael's father John married Barbara Stuhl or Barbara Sommel.
I think Michael's father John had Christian for a father & Johannes for a grandfather, but I don't know anything else about John's ancestors.

2. I was told I was related to Clark Poling of the 4 chaplains via the following link:

Clark Poling (1910-1943) was the son of Daniel Poling who was the son of Charles Poling & Sevilla Kring. Sevilla was the daughter of Samuel B Kring. I was told my connection was that Samuel B Kring married Barbara Baumgardner (Michael's sister). However, I think maybe Barbara Baumgardner died in 1854 (Sevilla Kring was not born until 23 May 1856), and I have no proof that Barbara existed in Michael's family or as his sister. Also I think Samuel Kring married Mary Ann Stull, not Barbara Baumgardner.

But I still might be related to Clark Poling, because apparently Samuel B Kring's middle name is Baumgardner. Am I therefore connected to Samuel B Kring further back? Samuel B Kring (1827-1893) is the son of Jacob Kring. If Samuel's middle name is Baumgardner how did he get that middle name? Jacob Kring's sibs are as follows:
**************************************************
Johann "George" Kring married Magdalena Fye, and came to what's now Adams Twp in Cambria Co from Woodbury Twp, Bedford Co. in 1806.

His children:
George of Jenner Twp married Martha Stump;
Frederick of South Bend, Ind. married Elizabeth Steiner;
John of Adams Twp married Elizabeth Varner;
Jacob of Indiana Co married Elizabeth Rose; *****
Henry of Adams Twp married Polly Shaffer;
Conrad of Westerville, Ohio married Catherine Seidner;
Elizabeth married Jacob Baumgardner of Wayne Co, Ind.;
Catherine married Joseph Baumgardner of Stephenson Co, Ill.;
David of Adams Twp married Agnes;
Magdalena married David Snavely of Richland Twp;
Daniel of Bedford Co married Elizabeth Fichtner;
Barbara married Jacob Davis of Westmoreland Co;
and Samuel of Adams Twp married Rebecca Wertz
**************************************************
So two of Jacob's sisters married Baumgardners. But these Baumgardners are from the midwest, not PA. And even if I were related to these midwest Baumgardners there is no direct link to Samuel Baumgardner Kring. So why did my ancestors think they were related to Clark Poling?

Charles Beacham

Hubert Baumgardner presumably lived in either Lancaster Co. or York Co., Pa. He was not yet "of age" when Hannes Ehrman left him some sort of inheritance in his will which was written on 18 March 1773. Hubert Baumgardner was to receive an amount equal to Hannes Ehrman's 3 sons [John Ehrman, George Ehrman, and Michael Ehrman]. Does anyone know of a connection between the Ehrman and the Baumgardner family ?

Jacob Bumgardner - PA, OH, IL, MO

I am trying hard to find more information on a Jacob Bumgardner, possibly born abt 1874 in PA. Who were his parents? Where did he come from? The only real evidence he exists is a letter written by a grandson which follows. In this letter there is a reference to a daughter who married a Guseman, this daughter's name was Frances. Have her death certificate, and her mother is listed as Elizabeth Nice. Can anyone help me??? My GGrandfather was the Abraham mentioned.
Thanks,
Oma Bumgardner Sanders

April 28, 1907
Dear Neice:
In answering your letter I will Endeavor to give you some information in relation to our relatives on Fathers side: (my mother was a Pilcher) our grandparents name was Jacob (I have forgotten grand Mamma's). His family consisted of boys - George, Joseph, John, Jacob, William, Samuel, Andrew, -Racheal and another who married Dan Gooseman are the girls that I remember seeing. these all lived and Died in Ohio so far as I know. Save Uncle Jacob, your grandpa, my father and Uncle John and Joe. One of Uncle John's boys, Jack a few years after the war went to Michigan he had a family I have not ever heard from him since. It would be quite tedious for me now to give in detail the Descendants of those I have mentioned may sometime later. The most of these I have not seen since 1855. My fathers family were myself, Lucy, James, Abraham, Amanda, William, Joseph, Seigel all dead but myself, Abe, Wm and Joe. Bro Abe lives in adjoining County. I were married in 1869 Here in Butler Co. went back to Illinois in 1870 and came back in 1874. have been here ever since. My family are Irena, Charles, Lucy, Ida, Minnie, John, James, Maude. All are at home or near buy Lucy, she died last Dec. year ago. Irena is married and Ida and Minne. the rest are one for themselves. I have been quite unwell for three weeks ague and grippe most of the trouble. The rest of us are as well as common. Now I do not know that I shall ever see you while mortal But if our lives have been what they should we will meet in that time that knows no ending Blest and Glorified it would be on of the greatest of Lifes Pleasures to meet you and yours. Now what I have failed to meet your request in this, Let me

And I remain yours Affectionately
J. P. Baumgardner
This is a copy of a letter to Samantha (Baumgardner) Hagar, a daughter of Lucy Jane Bumgardner, sister to John Pleasant. Lucy Jane's husband (and cousin) Isiah was a son of Jacob Bumgardner, Bro of our forefather Andrew J.) Abe, brother of George Alfred said that his generation was the 7th generation that Bumgardner had been in the United States.

Wanted to let you all know that cousin Bonita Jean Baumgardner Martin is deceased. I have had several new researchers ask me about her, and I told them I would try to find out. I knew she had been quite ill with heart problems for several years.
She had posted many messages that are archived in the records at Rootsweb and also at Genforum.com (familytreemaker.com)
She shared many early data pages with me years ago, and some time back published a Baumgardner booklet. I do not have a copy but hope to locate one.
If anyone does know where to find a copy of her booklet please let us know.
Thanks.
Sue Ellen Ash.
I received the following information from a cousin in Ohio on Baumgardners who lived in Lebanon Co., PA which led me to search the census on the internet, along with any other data I could find. "The Baumgardner family in Ohio came from Palmyra, Lebanon County, PA. At that place there appear to have been seven brothers and two sisters. Many of the families changed the name to Bomgardner."

I.  Peter, b.C. 1813
II. Michael, b.C. 1821, died in a CA veterans home.
III.John, b.1804, my gg grandfather, moved to Summit Co, OH
IV. Samuel, b.C.1816,m. Sarah Kratzer, bur.Gravel Hill Cem.
V.  Thomas, b.C.1819, m. Rebecca Miller
VI. George, b.C.1810,m. Margaret Rebecca Zerger
VII.Jacob, b.C.1808,m. Catharine Getz
VIII.Lydia, b.C.1824, m Daniel Kuntz
IX. Polly, m. Albert Balthaser

Some were earlier called Bumgard(t)ner, some later called Baumgardner.

My gg grandfather, John,b. 1804, mar. Elizabeth Hershey, had 3 ch., moved to Ohio, where they had 9 more ch.Both are buried in Summit Co., Ohio.

Brother, Peter, b.1813, also moved to Ohio, m. Jane Allen, had 4 ch. Jane died, Peter m. Achsah Deming,no ch. Buried in Huron Co.,OH

Michael, b. 1821, m. Lucetta Faust,3 ch. born in Lebanon Co., PA, moved to LaSalle Co., IL, 3 ch. born there, moved to Kansas, finally moved to Placer & Sutter Cos., CA. Michael was a Civil War Union soldier and lived out his life in the Veterans' Home of CA in Napa Co.

Apparently, the other siblings mar. and lived their lives in Lebanon & Dauphin Co., PA and surrounding area and most went by the name, Bomgardner. Most if not all belonged to the United Bretheren Church and were major contributors. These nine B(au)omgardners are supposedly brothers and sisters, parents unknown! I don't know any earlier Baumgardner ancestors!

Walker Baumgardner
wlbaumgardner@bellsouth.net
I have found multiple listings for a Jacob Baumgardner or Bumgardner who is the father of Cooper C., but only two or three for a Granville. It is therefore my firm belief that the trail runs through Jacob OR that Granville may be a middle name. Please note in all listings for Cooper C. that list his brothers and sisters, he is listed as having a brother Jacob but no brother Granville.

Henry was the son of Thomas and Margaret (Sheffler) Baumgardner both of whom were born in Bavaria as was Henry. Both parents died in the late 1800s in Frederick County, Md. Henry married Caroline SHAWBAKER (27 Dec 1836 - 26 Jan 1904) daughter of Jacob Shawbaker and Catherine (?). They had six daughters and a son who died in 1917 at age 20.
I am trying to trace the family of Jacob Shawbaker and the Baumgardners are the only tie I can find so far.
Any help out there?

Baumgardner/Baumgartner International 2004 Reunion ~ Adams Co, IN

Every other year Baumgardner/Baumgartner, etc.,, descendants hold an International Reunion. The next reunion will be the last week-end of July, 2004. It’s held in a different place each time. The group has traveled twice to Switzerland. Those attending represent several Baumgardner/Baumgartner family lines.

Our next reunion will be a Swiss Heritage celebration held in Indiana. The date was chosen to coincide with the annual Swiss Heritage Festival held in Berne, IN (Adams Co., IN). We hope we can connect with families whose forefathers settled near Berne. We will spend Friday at Berne with a special catered dinner in the hopes that those who are of Baumgartner heritage from Berne or may be visiting for the festival would join with us. We’ll also have a special event in the restored Baumgartner church in Berne.

We would like to extend an invitation to anyone of Baumgardner/Baumgartner/etc. heritage (especially those from Adams Co, IN) to join us for all or any part of our reunion. It’s truly an international group as there are families from Switzerland who have indicated they may attend. We will meet July 28 – Aug 1, 2004. We are staying at a resort in North Central Indiana on the shore of Lake Wawasee near Syracuse, IN. We have a great time together and share our family trees and heritage along with doing fun activities. Please contact me directly if you would like to join us or know more about it.
Pat Lenhart
