Rudy Baumgarten/ Rudy Baumgartener / Rudolph Baumgarten Brooklyn, NY & Wife in Arnstein Germany & seyerlein

Looking for info on Rudy Baumgarten who lived at 1654 Hancock Street Brooklyn, New York in the 1950's and his wife who lived at house No 222 Arnstein, Bavaria, Germany. His wife was supposedly a cousin of our Grandmother, Sabina Seyerlein and was living in the home Grandmother Sabina was born in. Would like to know Rudy's wife's maiden name and any info on her or on Rudy Baumgarten's family. Not sure why Rudy was living in the US while his wife lived in Germany. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank so much,

Annie Forster

There are Baumgarten's in several states of Mexico. Do you know where in Germany did they originate?

I am told by a family in Ohaxca Mexico that one Baumgarten male from possibly Austria was the grand father to all Baumgarten's in Mexico. He had two wives and several children. He said he and a brother were merchants and settled there at the turn of the previous century. No children by the other brother. There were over 1,000 descendants according to my contact. I have no names at this time but if anyone is interested let me know.

G Wilhelm Baumgarten born 1817 Germany

He immigrated around 1869 to New York. His wife was Freiderike and they had the following children all born in Germany with the eldest son William born in Wolfenbrittel, Brunswick, Germany June 26, 1845. They lived in and around New York and New Jersey. One of the daughters married Edward Newell Bristol, that was Minnie Baumgarten. Somehow this family is related to my second great grandmother FH Ferdinadine Zartmann, as Minnie's father was a witness at the wedding in New York in 1876, and in the 1900's Minnie Bristol and my 2nd great grandmother are on a ship together coming back to the States from Europe. Any help, any relatives....I'm a darn good researcher, just need a little help here. These Germans are my brickwalls, and I believe they are Jewish too, only none practicing here for whatever reason.

I am sorry it took so long for me to answer you. The Friedrich I was inquiring about was one of five brothers. Where my family came from is not going to help you. It is a very common name.....
If you go to Geogen and enter Baumgarten you will find them almost everywhere in Germany. I was going to give you the web address for Geogen, but when I previewed the message, I found they deleted it. To check it yourself, go to Google and enter Geogen. It will be the first thing that comes up.....
What you need to do is to go back and find immigration, naturalization, census, birth, baptismal, death and burial records for all the members of the family that were immigrants or their children. On one of these records you may find what you are looking for.

Bobbi

Hi: I do genealogy too but I have no Baumgarten info but I am intrigued by the fact that your relative was the Brewmaster of Ruppert Brewery which is close by to where is live. Or rather it was close by until it was torn down. I am interested in the history of the brewery and wondered if you have any pictures of the brewery or other memorabilia. I have a Rupert Brewery tray but would love a picture of your relative at the factory or something like that. I will pay the costs, etc.

Baumgarten's from Remcheid, Germany

I have posted messages before, however I am still looking for someone who can help me find my ancesters. My grandfather was Henry Baumgarten, born 4/3/1892 in Germany. I was told he was born in Remscheid, Germany. His mother and father were, Anton and Theresa Elizabeth (Klvetzh) Baumgarten. There were about 7 boys and 1 girl. We think one brother was named Morris. He came to the US in 1912, as a stowaway on (we think) the SS Breslau, and landed in Norfolk, VA. He went to Philadelphia, PA and worked in a machine shop. My grandfather traveled back to Germany to see his mother at about the age of 24. The story goes that with one son in the US and the others in the war she gave up and hung herself shortly before her sons came home from war. The boys who fought in the war came home without infury expept for one who had a finger or hand injured. When my father returned to the US he traveled to Texas where he met and married my grandmother, Matilda Jost in Cuero, TX on 11/14/1916. They had 2 children, Charles Henry (my father) and Theresa.
I dare not hope this is the connection I am looking for! My Baumgartens came here in 1862 on THE TEUTONIC. They disembarked in NYC and Fridrich and Wilhelmine brought 5 children with them: ages 6 mo. to 7 years. My Great-Great Grandfather was a baby of six months whose name was August.

They were assimilated into Brooklyn where the children grew up and worked in the local businesses....lots of breweries in that area. My great grandfather, August, the 8 mo. old, later became a citizen and married a newly arrived German immigrant named Margert Stolz. They had 5 children and lived in Brooklyn until August's untimely death in 1907.
Margaret later remarried a farmer from Hicksville, LI, named Valentine Lotterman.

I have my fingers crossed that my family is your family: I am having troubling finding their hometown in Germany. Please write back.

I think it was somewhere in Bavaria, but now I have some hints it may have been from Prussia.

Hope to hear from you.

Gina

Yes....lots in NY and I am trying to find out where my great-great grandfather came from in Germany. He and wife and five children landed in NY in the midst of the Civil War, 1862. I can pick up the thread from his youngest, August who is my Great Grandfather and father of August, my Grandfather. But if anyone knows where this family came from....wife's name is Wilhelmine, please send me a note, and thanks.

I know my name does not sound like I'm related to Friedrich Baumgarten, but he might very well be my great-great grandfather or great uncle. My maiden name is Baumgarten. I have traced this far: Friedrich Baumgarten and family came to the US in 1862 from Germany. He brought his wife, Wilhelmine and five children: August (my great grandfather) who was 8 mo. old, and then Wilhelm who was 7, Dorothea who was 6, Heinrich who was 5 and Friedrich who was 2. This does not match the birth date you give for Friedrich, b. 1852.

Please write and tell me what you know about Friedrich Baumgarten: where they come from in Germany etc. I am having trouble locating their home town.

Does this name sound familiar to you at all? Do you know where I can get more information about that brewery?

My grandfather was Henry Baumgarten, born 4/3/1892 in Germany. I was told he was born in Remscheid, or something spelled similar. His mother and father were, Anton (I think) and Theresa Elizabeth (Klvetzh) Baumgarten.
Well I guess the horse has bolted a little as you put it in an earlier post. I maintain a few different emails and use them for different purposes to limit exposure. One way of circulating information in a fairly restricted way is to use some of the online services. On the family history front there is quite a good free online application - you might already know about it - at www.geni.com - where you can create an online family tree, including quite detailed information and the way its supposed to be used is you email invitations to family members who can log into the tree and add their bits of information to gradually build up a very large tree (its now become a little like Facebook for family history nuts). Its very good for families with international connections to share info and it allows quite nice trees to be constructred. I have been pretty slack and have a little bit of my tree inserted and haven't put in much detail. I really have just been using it as a way of recording my info. I have been lucky as a distant cousin, Sharon Brennan has written two privately published books on her family which includes a bit on the descendants of Gustav Baumgarten (including me) so to a certain extend my tree has been done for me. I just always wish I could get back into some of the European stuff and also my father's side of the family on which I have almost nothing.

I can send you an invite to allow you to view my family tree on Geni.com and link to it if you ever create your own but to do so I need to actually put you into my structure. If you have a family tree that shows how you descend from Johann Andreas Baumgarten and his son William (Wilhelm) that you could email to me, I could build it in to my tree and then it lets me send you the email invite. You can email me on rr@fastmail.fm. My trouble is I am so busy with stuff I only get ont the computer once in a blue moon!

cheers

Richard
