Baumgartner in Milwaukee's German newspapers

Heads up Milwaukee Baumgartner researchers! I've indexed about 80 entries of the name in one form or another from local German newspapers: Baumgarthner, Baumgartner, Baumgärtner, Baumgaertner. These have been collected since 2007 in the local resource called "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
Contact me for more information.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com
project originator/compiler/editor

I would like to know her mother's maiden name. Ancestry.com says it is Anna Benning, but it seems you are referring to her as Anne Leonard. I would appreciate any clarification or details. I would like to know where they came from in Germany.

Rosetta's parents were Ralph William Baumgartner and mother Margaret McDaniel Baumgartner. They lived in Brazil, Indiana for awhile and then moved to Clay City Indiana and both died in 1960. They lost their first born at very early age. The story is told to me they were in the woods picking blackberries and somehow the young boy, Ralph jr. fell and died. He is buried with his parents at Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City, Indiana. Only other child to pass was Richard Lee in 1960. All three Margaret, Ralph and Richard Died in just a couple of months of each other, Ralph first, Richard next and finally Rosetta several years later. My name is Richard Dean, son of Richard Lee. Rosetta was my Aunt. I spent a lot of time with her.

Benedict Baumgartner Origins

Benedict Baumgartner born 1806 and died 1879 in Wells Co. Indiana. Most researchers believe that he came from Switzerland. I have reason to believe he came from Germany.

His second wife's obit said she was born in Germany. His son, my G/G Grandfather spoke the dialect of high german. His youngest daughter stated we were German and not Swiss as people wanted us to believe.

If these individuals who believe that my Baumgartner family is from Switzerland, I would like to know where you received your information and valid proof that his family came from Switzerland.

Until then, I will continue believing what my family has passed down. I have verification from two obits that both my G/G Grandmother and G/Grandmother were born in Germany.

That was Anna Hubacher Aeschliman Baumgartner and Salomet Steffen Baumgartner.

I have copies of census records and the will of Benedict Baumgartner. As to the two marriages for my G/G Grandfather, were there bans read in the church in Vera Cruz and if so, where are these records archived?

Thanks,

I am Kermit Baumgartner, Jr. I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland as was my father, Kermit Sr. He was born in 1915 and died in the mid 1980s. I was born in the early 1950s and have three children including another Kermit, number III. We are not from Nebraska, nor do we have relatives there. I have heard of another Kermit Baumgartner in California but nothing to really support that. My father was apparently named for Theodore Roosevelt's son Kermit, that is the surname of Theodore Roosevelts second wife. Thats all I know. Kermit.

Joseph Anton Baumgartner, born 1892, son of Jacob/Frances, of Oshkosh, WI

I have an original 5”7” photograph of “Joseph Anton Baumgartner – born 1892 – Communion 1904”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Oshkosh (Winnebago Co.) WI, and he looks to be the age 12 shown.

I found Joseph’s date of birth both in Wisconsin Birth records, and in the WWI Draft Registration; he was born 27 April 1892. In the 1900 Oshkosh census, he is listed with parents Jacob and Frances. By 1930, he was age 37, living in Oshkosh with wife Jessie E., and he was a restaurant proprietor.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Joseph A.
Re: Baumgartner - St. Louis

David, I don't know whether this will help you at all. My great-grandfather, Conrad Baumgartner, was born in Ste. Genevieve, MO about 1874. His mother's name was Margaret (b 1847 in Switzerland). He had two sisters, Ursula (b.1867) and Anna (b. 1872 -1887), both born in Switzerland.

I don't know their father's name. I haven't been able to find him.

However, Conrad's parents died in about 1890 when he was 16. He went to St. Louis with a family friend, Dr. Alexis Hartman, who sponsored him at Barnes Medical College in St. Louis.

This is a slim chance, but I was thinking that if the Baumgartners had a family friend who lived in St. Louis, maybe they had family there as well. And your George Baumgartner is of a good age to be Conrad's grandfather.

As I said, slim chance.

--Meredith

Lorie,

Did your Margaret Baumgartner ever live in Missouri?
