I am researching for a family friend. The Clifts and my family lived side by side for several generations. Mary and Morgan Clift are buried at Holmesburg Baptist Church on Frankford Ave. An item passed down through the Clift family dated 1821 indicates that Susannah Bavington was 14 in that year. I am trying to identify Susannan Bavington. I was under the impression that Susannah was a direct line for the Clift family, but my research indicates that the line came through Mary Bavington Clift not Susannah.

A grandchild of Mary and Morgan Clift was named Levie Clift hinting at the lines through Levey Snyder and Jonathan Bavington. Also one of the sons of Mary and Morgan Clift was Amos Snyder Clift hinting again at that family name.

I would be interested in a copy of the will of Jonathan Bavington III. I am intimately familiar with Trinity Oxford and have located the Bavington graves in the cemetery. Unfortunately, they are not too readable, and I suspect some have been the victims of vandalism.

I have asked for records but have yet to get them.

Any help you can provide is welcome. Mary Clift appears to be the daughter of Jonathan III and Levey Snyder Bavington. So, Information on their ancestry is welcome. Can you also provide names of the children of Jonathan and Levey?

Thank you,
Linda
Hi Linda,
My father has written a geneolgy of sorts entitled, Bavintons - the last 300 years. In chedking his writings, I believe that Mary Bavington's father was Jonathan Bavington III, of Oxford Twp, PA. Jonathan is my great, great, great grandfather.
Mary had 9 sisters and 4 brothers. Her family attended Trinity Church, Oxford, and Jonathan (along with some other Bavingtons) is buried there.
Jonathan's great grandfather, John, landed in Cecil County, MD in 1671, presumably from England.
We have no information on Mary. Mary Clift is named in Jonathan's will as owing him money, so we surmised that Mary was one of Jonathan's 10 daughters. We know that Hannah Livesey was one of her sisters. Rebecca Langcake is also named in Jonathan's will as owing him money, so we believe that Rebecca was one of Jonathan's daughters. Suzanna could be also, but we have no indication of that.
I have lots more information on Bavingtons. Let me know what you'd like.

I have Jonathan Bavington & Levey (Leve Ann) Snyder m. 1790 St. Paul's Church in Philadelphia as Hannah's parents. Hannah was born about 1812, Pennsylvania according to the 1850 census. I find it interesting that we have so many Leve Ann's. This is all the information I have so far. Have you been able to find anything on this Bavington line?

At the moment we go back to 1780ish. If you want you can email me direct this way I may get your message quicker. All 3 of us have photo's certificates etc that may be of interest. ttfn Amanda

According to the information I have, my Great Grandfather's brother, Albert Bavington, was born in Phila. in 1847. The family was located in the NE Phila area (Somerton, Frankford) and so, except for the discrepancy in dates, could be your Albert. His siblings were Thomas, Phoebe, Caroline, Watson (my Ggrandfather), John and Jane. Unfortunately I have no further information about Albert.

I have 6 children, but other than Annie Marie, we have very little. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Do you have any idea as to where the "Hopkinson" name derives from?
I'm not sure if the following information is of help to you or not. The sister of my gg-grandmother, Almira Cramer Carver, was Anna Cramer. Anna Cramer married Alfred Bavington about 1868 either in Bucks Co. or Philadelphia, PA. They had two daughters (according to the 1880 Phila. Census - Roll #1182, Page 20): Kate and Lilly. Kate was born about 1871; Lilly about 1877. I have also found Alfred and Anna in the 1900 Census in Philadelphia - Roll #1477, Page 231. That census lists their birthdates as October 1846 and March 1846, respectively. I have not yet had the chance to research this family further.

Perhaps this Alfred is related to your Albert?

Interesting how the unusual name of LevyAnn keeps popping up in this family. I was in correspondence with an individual who has information on the Bavingtons in MD and that is where Jonathon Gordon was born (Port Deposit, Cecil Co, MD). Jonathon was LevyAnn's father-in-law. She married Uriah Gordon and I am descended from Uriah's sister Elizabeth. I am interested in the MD Bavingtons because rumor has it that Jonathon Gordon may have gone to MD and died there. He disappeared after the death of his wife. At any rate, I don't have any information that would be helpful at this point. I may write again to my former contact and see if he has anything new.

Your query is tantalizing. I am looking for information about Leve Ann Bavington (b. 1821) who married Uriah Gordon (b. 1810). They were both born in PA, but I don't know where. They went to MD (Baltimore I think) long enough to have two children there. Then they moved out to Havana, IL, where 3 more children were born. Their children were:
Anna, George, Albert, Almira and Charlotte. Albert is the only one with descendents and I have information on them. I have just been to Havana and have more information, but have not gotten it all collated and recorded yet.

Incidently, Leve Ann's name is spelled differently every place I see it. In one census it is Olive Ann, but on her tombstone it is Leve Ann.

Any clues to this woman, her family, and her marriage will be much appreciated.

Bavingtons in Canada?

Looking for any information on Bavingtons - mostly from Ontario - Arthur (Art) Bavington ran away from home when he was 16 and eventually settled in Kaslo BC. He was my grandfather - he died in 1958, 8 years before I was born. Any information relating to him or his ancestry would be greatly appreciated.
