I have heard the story about the cemetary. However, his father's name was L. C. Baw, Lewis Calvin Baw. I've heard that he had two families, one of which is in Texas and the one I'm descended from. Virgil was one of his children. I have lists of names, etc. if you want them. I believe Lewis Calvin and my grandmother, Ida, were divorced. I'd love to talk with you via email.

Olivia Baw Strain

I believe that L.C. Baw was my grandfather. Ida was his wife. My grandfather was Benjamin Owen Baw, Jr. I know that L. C. had two families. Perhaps one was in Arkansas. I know other things and would like to know the origin of the name Baw. Do you have any information on this. My grandfather, according to my mother, said it was shortened to Baw from a long French name. She also told me that my grandmother (Ben's wife) denied this and said it was shortened from a long German name.

If you have any info, I'd appreciate sharing.

Thanks.

Yes, I can give you all these names. I have them on a legal document somewhere which I will attempt to find as soon as I can. I have a lot of information that you may be interested in. Evidently, LC owned some land in Texas that passed to Ida and then arguments ensued among family members. Attempts to sell the land in total produced the papers researching the heirs. I can send you copies of these. Some of the info shared between you and the other lady talking through this thread looks inaccurate and perhaps these papers can clear that up. I'm new to this, so I'm not sure how to get in touch with you other than through these boards. Oh, and I think it's Louis, not Lee.

L. C. (Louis Calvin) was Ida's husband. He had a family in Texas and a family in Arkansas, I believe. One of his children, Calvin, finally found his father buried in a cemetary somewhere in Texas. Ida and L.C.'s land was in Camp and Upshur Counties in Texas. I don't know much, but do have a few family stories to share as well as the information about the family members from the search that the lawyer did when a member of my family was trying to buy the land from the others. I'll explain all that to you when I send the records. I'll have to dig for those records and it will be at least another two weeks before I can do this as I'm on my way to Texas for the birth of my first grandchild!!! So excited to finally find someone who knows something about the family. Please email me so I can send these things by email.
Thanks so much!!!!!!

I found LEE BAW in Pine Bluff, AR , and LOUIS C. BAW in Texas- both head of the household
They both could have been L.C. Baw's, and are now being confused with each other.
The names of the wives are different, the kids are different and the ages is different, but both Lee and Louis C. are born in TN.,

If Ida was an heir to the land, whose probate was it- I thought you meant L.C. (Louis C. ) had died and she was his heir-

The census said she ( Ida) had 6 children, four of which were with her at the time of the census, the other two must have been older and gone from home.

I would have to see the land record to understand what it is saying-and the dates- can yo scan and attach to a message here or type it out, just the pertinent parts.

What I found strange was the kids born in TX. re: the census but most of them were elsewhere as adults.

When and where did L. C. die, or Ida?

Betty

You asked: L.C. Baw (Does he have a longer name?)
--------------------
I guess this is the same people you are talkng about
Listed as:
LOUIS C. BAW

Louis C. Baw age 52 b. TN parents b. VA VA
Ida age 43 b. TN parents b. TN TN married 24 years, (ca 1886 probably in TN ) 8 children, 6 living - all the 4 children below born in TX
1.Florence age 18
2.Benjamin age 14
3.Cullm age 11 ( ca 1909 TX)
4.Hattie age 4
this is missing 2 children - one is Virgil and 2nd one Luther

----------------
You have listed 5 children:
1.Virgil Lee Baw
2.Benjamin Owen Baw # 2 above
3.Florence Baw # 1 above
4.Luther Baw
5.Dolly Hattie Baw # 4 above
# 6 would be the Cullm listed about as # 3-
===============
Strange that Luther would have been born in eastern Mo
but some of them seem to have been along the MS River -
does that have any connection or is it the flatland areas and farming-

I don't have a clue as to the others, this is stuff I have found searching, primarily ancestry.com for the census-
I would guess there are connections between the families, but finding it will take time.

Betty

Even my husbands family does not know much. And does not seem to care a whole lot. Why am I pushing I don't know. They think Hardeman Co TN in 1840. I did not know about Ark until last week.
Betty, do you know anything about a L.C. Baw that was in Jefferson Co Ark and Camp Co TX? This was about 1910. The word is that they were from TN at one time. And he may have been married to Ida.

Diane dlaffert@netdoor.com
