I just got back from a genealogy weekend in Mineral Point, Wisconsin (US) about an hour-and-a-half from my house. Mineral Point is the sister city with Redruth. One of the seminar speakers was the guy who developed the CFH database...awesome. 4 million names and growing every day. He was available later to help with "brick walls".
I chose Stephen and Caroline's sister, Matilda. I have a picture of her, Matilda Bawden Knotwell. No marriage information, not even a first name!!! Can't very well do a search ...I tried but didn't see any Matilda Bawden spouse.
Matilda AND Caroline came to the US with Stephen and Mary Terrill Bawden, and 2 sons who were born in Cobra (suburb of Santiago) Cuba, and 2 adolescent housekeepers (I hate the word "servant".) They were 18-year old Mary and 14-year-old Eliza. (I even have their last names in my reference).
Stephen, president of his Sawanee Mining Company, (a mining equipment manufacturer) and the family went back to England (Redruth??), then back to Pennsylvania, then to my hometown in Iowa.
Census info says...and I believe this is true, that Matilda, at 65 yo, is a housekeeper for 23 yo William Dennis, a tin miner from England, and his 22 yo wife Eliza, and their 1 mo son also Wm. She is Matilda Bawden here.
The CFH guy had no trace of her, no marriage info, no spouse name, and said there is still a chunk of Redruth information to be entered. It could be in there. I did find out, however, that 1812 Stephen's mom's name really is JELBERT...Not Gilbert or Jilbert.
If you have any info, I'd love to share. Carol
