My great grandfather was born on September 15, 1862 in Newton, Dale County, Alabama. His name is William Henry Whadford (Wat(d)ford). His unknown parents died when he was about 2 years old. His father was possibly killed in the Civil War and absolutely nothing is known about his mother or family. Supposedly, his "folks" died on a ferry/river/houseboat because of a "plague". He grew up with unknown relatives.
